I was fortunate to meet Mr. Exum about 1979 and it was so great talking to him about the Tetons. And yes the Guide School is a great place not just for beginners, but to help hone your abilities once you've been out and about.
I did rock climbing once and hated it. Never again. I like white water kayaking, bike packing, backpacking, scuba diving, etc but rock climbing was not for me.
