I got the platinum for DMC5 just 2 weeks ago and yeah, it really was a blast to play, been playing since release and had tons of fun. I will never forget that satisfaction in the prologue when you first enter a fight and it makes that "shiiium" sound when the area closes in red, it's been such a long time man, 11 years.
Yakuza 0 and kiwami are my favorite games of the decade, it really influenced me to play a lot of the other yakuza games as well as other JRPGS and Japanese games in general. I got into persona, Ys, Tokyo Xanadu and dark souls styled games thanks to yakuza
One the one hand, I'm sad that it took until Yakuza 6 was about to come out for me to finally give the series a try. But on the other hand, I'm glad I got to experience the games in their remastered glory. Played 0-Kiwami 2, just finished 6, and waiting for 3,4,5 to release on PC.

Cvit I’m overjoyed that you’ve not only heard of the original Nier, but you’ve also played it! Despite its problems and other games having better production value, it’s my favorite game ever made (followed by Okami and The Witcher 3 wild hunt)! I also adored Laura Bailey’s performance as Kaine, and that has contributed to her being one of my favorite characters in video games even to this day (I’m talking top 5). I loved how the game isn’t really complicated and while more could’ve been in a lot of aspects, it really does so much with a tiny cast (there’s 4 main characters and 4-5 secondary/supportive characters that make you care when stuff happens them). It feels intimate seeing them grow as a group and their interactions are incredible! There really all misfits (except for Nier, who manages to get you to actually care about him and his daughter (whose cooking dialogue I still remember (her father’s descriptions “smells someone pissed on a campfire” and “tastes like the floor of a wet cave” I laugh about years after playing😂). I’d easily put him in the top 5 best fathers in video games because the entire plot is literally him trying to save his daughter and you get the sense that he’d walk in Hell to save Yonah, even if the chances were less then 1%. Weiss and Emil were also fantastic and Emil’s optimism was highly infectious and welcome in dying word seemingly hopeless world. The music I still remember and have the entire track (the soundtrack is available on iTunes). Emil’s theme are to me the most powerful of the soundtrack and still make me sob like a baby. There’s so much little details about the game that makes it amazing. Even the side quests which I found many them actually contributed to fleshing out the characters personalities, and gave some the of funniest bits of dialogue in the game (The Mandrake root quest, Kaine asking the tomb theives to help her find some “marbles” for kid who lost some, the poison berries that didn’t effect Kaine but made Nier litteraly pass out in gameplay, devola and popola’s differing alcohol tolerance, etc). I hold this game in high esteem as you can tell.😊
Honestly, your channel is amazing. I get entertainment value and learn from every video, the effort put in is clear; the Hitman series analysis is a personal favorite of mine, rewatched it many times. Keep up the great work.

Not in particular order but my personal favorites of the decade: Liberation Maiden, Shin Megami Tensei 4, Etrian Odyssey 4, Shovel Knight, Radiant Historia, 7th Dragon 3, Fe Three Houses, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Astral Chain, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Nier Automata, Odin Sphere (The PS4 that I gotten access), Stella Glow, South Park Stick of Truth, Digimon Story: Cybersleuth(And Hacker's Memories).
I feel the same about the original NieR. I played Automata first and it’s awesome but the OG just moves me far deeper. It’s a much more eviscerating story.
Nier is connected to the drakengard games. The first drakengard was one of the first games I've ever played and is part of the reason I love games to this day.

Alright, I'm so happy to see someone put Awakening amongst their favorites. I much like you, was introduced to the franchise by Awakening. I had played through about half of Blazing Blade for the GBA, but Awakening hooked me. I completely agree on the terms of Characters. While they may fall into clichés or simply not have a lot put into them, I fell in love with the cast. Honestly not just one of my favorite games of the decade, but all time.
Amenesia: fully agree, I wish I could play horror games but they really trigger my anxiety, but I can watch them be played, and it's very obvious how much influence this had on horror as a whole. Guilty Gear: Not big on fighting games, but damn is it a gorgeous game. DooM: Closest to a perfect FPS anyone has ever come, I've listened to the full soundtrack many times. Detention: I'll have to look this up! Nier: Whoooooat ah I see. Unexpected but it makes me more interested in the first now. New Vegas: I've played this game so damn much I can't hardly play it anymore because I've seen pretty much everything. Dark Souls: right? It's a masterpiece, can't say anything else without wasting breath. Dead Rising 2: This has free roam!? Shit I need to get this then, only reason I was never into timers on games. Dead Space 2: It's a tough call between 1 & 2, both have faults and advantages over the other. Overall I say 1 is a better horror game, but 2 is the better game. Too bad 3 blew ass, it actually had some really interesting concepts. Awakening: Been playing since the GBA, and casual mode alone made me adore this one. No more annoying resets after an enemy gets a 2% chance crit. Fanfuckingtastic characters as well with funny and charming stories. Very fun and challenging as well, so long you don't abuse the fuck out of pair up. Bravely Default: I got burnt out really fast while playing this but I did love the combat system, and I adore job systems. I'll have to go back to it sometime. Killer Instinct: Again, I'm not big on fighting games so I don't have anything to say. Revengence: looked so fucking stupid on release but Jesus christ did it defy expectations. Shovel Knight: I totally blow ass at nes style games, but I can still tell this game is amazingly well done. New Order: Fucking amazing, it never needed a story so well done but it does and I love it. Too bad the sequel shit the bed in terms of game play and map design. Darkest Dungeon: this game is bad for my blood pressure. Yakuza: I really need to get around to playing these. Hitman 2: I'm worried that if I get this I'll never leave my room. DMC5: The pure amount of love I've heard for this is why I'm going to go play the previous games to fully enjoy it.
My favourite games of the decade are Wolfenstein: The New Order, Dead Rising 2, GTA V, Fallout 4, Far Cry 3, Sniper Elite 3 and 4, Just Cause 2 and Hitman 2016/2018. I think those two Hitman games are the two I’ve put the most time into, maybe ever.

I’d really recommend you reading Claymore. Miyazaki has most definitely read it himself and it really nails that “Japanese take on western fantasy” you’re talking about. It’ll also serve as a good hype/thing to do while one awaits Elden Ring.

Good list, I think if you haven't played them you would certainly enjoy Divinity Original Sin 2, Wasteland 2, and Battle Brothers. Particularly the last one its a hardcore turn based strategy game where you're the leader of a band of mercenaries kindaaaaa plays like Darkest Dungeon. Also If you haven't touched the franchise maybe give Ace Combat 7 a try. Similar to what you said about DMC5 its a game with an INSANE level of polish that you just don't see these days. Just bat shit balls to the wall anime style fighter jet game.

I prefer dead space 1s suit design more actually. It really felt more like Isaac was wearing mechanics suit that just so happened to be suited to combat (because of the shit it had to be made to protect him against) whereas 2 and beyond made everything look more like it was just actually combat armor. The draw of things in deadspace 1 was that Isaac was basically using improvised weaponry and armor the entire time.

Mine Top 10 (not in any order) would be Portal 2, Batman Arkham City / Knight, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Dark Souls 1, Darksiders 1, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, God of War, Titanfall 2, Apex Legends and Fortnite. I know someone may roll they eyes at Fortnite but I really had loads of great fun in that game so Im not ashamed of it. ;) BTW My backlog is huge, I didnt play almost anything in 2013-2017 becouse of personal stuff so I still need to play all the Bioshocks, Mass Effect 2 and 3, Dead Space 2 and 3, Spec Ops The Line, RDR2, Witcher, Wolfenstein, Doom... I can propably write 20 more titles and every one of em could be in my Top 10. I hope I will play some of em in 2020. I dont care about graphics so all I need is time.

More or less agree with most of the list (Nier especially), but only have a few disagreements: -I don't have much experience with Hitman as a franchise, the only game I played was the OG Hitman 2 on PS2 as a wee babby. In it's place, I'd probably put SMT IV, though that's just going off the top of my head. -Personally disagree on Fire Emblem Awakening, while I kinda get it, Echoes restored my faith in the franchise after Fates, it finally brought back everything I loved about Rekka no Ken and Sacred Stones with it's character writing and how almost everyone feels important (to some extent, Echoes definitely felt like it had a couple filler characters on Celica's route), and they weren't all just copy/paste anime stereotypes...mostly. But yeah, Echoes was just a sigh of relief after the direction I thought the franchise was headed after Fates. -If one was to say that Soulsborne is a singular franchise, I'd HAVE to say Bloodborne. The lore, the world, the art direction, the music, it all works so well for me, and it's a game that's greatly influenced me when it comes to my own creative expeditions. EDIT: Scratch SMT4, as good as it is, I HAVE to put Hollow Knight in my best of the decade.
smt4 is all right but goddamn does it have some huge problems that prevent it from being that great imo. like hey thanks for wiping out all those extra turns i earned and planned to use to buff with, npc partner i can't control who used a low accuracy or resisted spell against the boss, thanks pal. thanks game for pairing them with me again after a reload. that's the biggest i can recall rn but it's enough to knock it below smt3 for me in the franchise, easily

I also think about NieR and Berserk at least once a week. I personally think that Automata is the better game, but I can totally see why you would choose the original. I definitely prefer the original's soundtrack. Holy shit that OST is an 11/10.
As someone that's played FE since 7 (Blazing Sword, GBA) and who's favorite games are the Tellius series (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, GC/Wii) I, from the depths of my heart, appreciate Awakening. Does it have flaws? Yeah all FE games do but it's still a good FE game and it saved this fucking series and without it we wouldn't have gotten Three Houses (which is really fucking good, Cvit please play it) Fates can still go jump off a cliff though Dude, I was legit going to buy an XBox One for Scalebound but then yeah...there are rumors it will be revived on Switch but I wouldn't hold your breath on that.
I like Fire Emblem I played 3 Houses and all the 3DS games, but I'm a stupid casual, for real, I play on casual mode. People say it's so good, maybe I'd be more into the older games. I have a plan to become a big fan, finish my current Black Eagles Playthrough, play Awakening on Classic, play Blazing Blade, Then Binding Blade, then replay Valentia on Classic, then Geneology of the Holy War, Path of Radiance if I can find a copy, Radiant Dawn, then play Fates except Revelations, then Thracia 776. My plan is to get used to classic mode and gradually get used to the harder games.

Not in particular order but my personal favorites of the decade: Liberation Maiden, Shin Megami Tensei 4, Etrian Odyssey 4, Shovel Knight, Radiant Historia, 7th Dragon 3, Fe Three Houses, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Astral Chain, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Nier Automata, Odin Sphere (The PS4 that I gotten access), Stella Glow, South Park Stick of Truth, Digimon Story: Cybersleuth(And Hacker's Memories).
This list is very much on point, can't recommend these games enough
Charcter action ganes are my favourite type of game. Bayonetta 2 and metal gear rising got me into the genere and I also love the devil may cry series

I feel the same about the original NieR. I played Automata first and it’s awesome but the OG just moves me far deeper. It’s a much more eviscerating story.
I haven’t played the original, but I have played Automata and it’s my favorite game of all time. I can’t wait for the NieR remake!

The first Nier is a humble game, technically speaking, but overall is so much greater that the sum of its parts, is a great experience
Nier is connected to the drakengard games. The first drakengard was one of the first games I've ever played and is part of the reason I love games to this day.

Hm...I don't think I could make 15 so I'll just say my favorite. DOOM, Persona 5, NieR; Automata, Monster Hunter: World, Devil May Cry 5, Battlefield 3, Titanfall 2, Marvel's Spider-Man, and Battlefield 4.
Alright, I'm so happy to see someone put Awakening amongst their favorites. I much like you, was introduced to the franchise by Awakening. I had played through about half of Blazing Blade for the GBA, but Awakening hooked me. I completely agree on the terms of Characters. While they may fall into clichés or simply not have a lot put into them, I fell in love with the cast. Honestly not just one of my favorite games of the decade, but all time.

Amenesia: fully agree, I wish I could play horror games but they really trigger my anxiety, but I can watch them be played, and it's very obvious how much influence this had on horror as a whole.
Guilty Gear: Not big on fighting games, but damn is it a gorgeous game.
DooM: Closest to a perfect FPS anyone has ever come, I've listened to the full soundtrack many times.
Detention: I'll have to look this up!
Nier: Whoooooat ah I see. Unexpected but it makes me more interested in the first now.
New Vegas: I've played this game so damn much I can't hardly play it anymore because I've seen pretty much everything.
Dark Souls: right? It's a masterpiece, can't say anything else without wasting breath.
Dead Rising 2: This has free roam!? Shit I need to get this then, only reason I was never into timers on games.
Dead Space 2: It's a tough call between 1 & 2, both have faults and advantages over the other. Overall I say 1 is a better horror game, but 2 is the better game. Too bad 3 blew ass, it actually had some really interesting concepts.
Awakening: Been playing since the GBA, and casual mode alone made me adore this one. No more annoying resets after an enemy gets a 2% chance crit. Fanfuckingtastic characters as well with funny and charming stories. Very fun and challenging as well, so long you don't abuse the fuck out of pair up.
Bravely Default: I got burnt out really fast while playing this but I did love the combat system, and I adore job systems. I'll have to go back to it sometime.
Killer Instinct: Again, I'm not big on fighting games so I don't have anything to say.
Revengence: looked so fucking stupid on release but Jesus christ did it defy expectations.
Shovel Knight: I totally blow ass at nes style games, but I can still tell this game is amazingly well done.
New Order: Fucking amazing, it never needed a story so well done but it does and I love it. Too bad the sequel shit the bed in terms of game play and map design.
Darkest Dungeon: this game is bad for my blood pressure.
Yakuza: I really need to get around to playing these.
Hitman 2: I'm worried that if I get this I'll never leave my room.
DMC5: The pure amount of love I've heard for this is why I'm going to go play the previous games to fully enjoy it.
My favourite games of the decade are Wolfenstein: The New Order, Dead Rising 2, GTA V, Fallout 4, Far Cry 3, Sniper Elite 3 and 4, Just Cause 2 and Hitman 2016/2018. I think those two Hitman games are the two I’ve put the most time into, maybe ever.

@11:25 ngl playing Awakening through completely on the hard/classic was among the most frustrating experiences I've ever had in my entire life. Like, it took like 50 restarts per chapter after chapter 4. Haven't even tried the endgame sidequests, they seem frickin' insane.

I’d really recommend you reading Claymore. Miyazaki has most definitely read it himself and it really nails that “Japanese take on western fantasy” you’re talking about. It’ll also serve as a good hype/thing to do while one awaits Elden Ring.

People need to praise NIER greatness more. I hate that Automata overshadows it even though it is an amazing game too, but NIER outright changed what I thought of video games as a storytelling medium and I think about it all the time. Hoping for a re-release on PC.

Good list, I think if you haven't played them you would certainly enjoy Divinity Original Sin 2, Wasteland 2, and Battle Brothers. Particularly the last one its a hardcore turn based strategy game where you're the leader of a band of mercenaries kindaaaaa plays like Darkest Dungeon. Also If you haven't touched the franchise maybe give Ace Combat 7 a try. Similar to what you said about DMC5 its a game with an INSANE level of polish that you just don't see these days. Just bat shit balls to the wall anime style fighter jet game.

I prefer dead space 1s suit design more actually. It really felt more like Isaac was wearing mechanics suit that just so happened to be suited to combat (because of the shit it had to be made to protect him against) whereas 2 and beyond made everything look more like it was just actually combat armor. The draw of things in deadspace 1 was that Isaac was basically using improvised weaponry and armor the entire time.

I saw that you like pretty much every game I like (I don't play FPS but if I did, I'd probably like your picks too). I LOVE Nier. I love Yoko Taro games. ANYWAY, I am here to tell you I didn't see Monster Hunter World anywhere in this video and that you should play it. Just prepare to get sucked in and lose unholy amounts of hours to it.
It's a wonderful game.
Oh god, I'm sad your list doesn't contain Total War Shogun 2, it's such a fantastic game, definitely one of my favorites. Other games I loved this decade are: Stellaris, Celeste, Hotline Miami, The Last of Us, Mass Effect 3, Deus Ex Human Revolution and oh yeah, my favorite game of all time, Portal 2.

If the original Dead Rising had co-op that would have been absolutely magical. That's the only thing it doesn't have over DR2.
Also, if you played Drakengard 3 which came after Nier, you’ll miss Nier’s camera and gameplay because it at least didn’t lag at all or much. If it did, it didn’t happen very much because I would have remembered it. Oh, and you really should read Claymore.

I loved Bravely Second just a tad more than the original, but I still adore both a ton.
Mine Top 10 (not in any order) would be Portal 2, Batman Arkham City / Knight, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Dark Souls 1, Darksiders 1, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, God of War, Titanfall 2, Apex Legends and Fortnite. I know someone may roll they eyes at Fortnite but I really had loads of great fun in that game so Im not ashamed of it. ;)
BTW My backlog is huge, I didnt play almost anything in 2013-2017 becouse of personal stuff so I still need to play all the Bioshocks, Mass Effect 2 and 3, Dead Space 2 and 3, Spec Ops The Line, RDR2, Witcher, Wolfenstein, Doom... I can propably write 20 more titles and every one of em could be in my Top 10. I hope I will play some of em in 2020. I dont care about graphics so all I need is time.
I am eager to play Hitman 1 and 2, but I heard there is so much content that dissapears if you dont play it in time...(like kill Sean Bean mission etc) I dont get it why IO does that.

I agree with the list, besides Awakening being on it at all. Though that's probably my old grumpy FE fan-ness talking. (Though geez, I guess people who started on Awakening are technically "old fans" now, seeing how it's like 8 years old or something now)
Xenoblade Chronicles is very much my favorite game of the decade, especially for the sci-fi epic storytelling.

More or less agree with most of the list (Nier especially), but only have a few disagreements:
-I don't have much experience with Hitman as a franchise, the only game I played was the OG Hitman 2 on PS2 as a wee babby. In it's place, I'd probably put SMT IV, though that's just going off the top of my head.
-Personally disagree on Fire Emblem Awakening, while I kinda get it, Echoes restored my faith in the franchise after Fates, it finally brought back everything I loved about Rekka no Ken and Sacred Stones with it's character writing and how almost everyone feels important (to some extent, Echoes definitely felt like it had a couple filler characters on Celica's route), and they weren't all just copy/paste anime stereotypes...mostly. But yeah, Echoes was just a sigh of relief after the direction I thought the franchise was headed after Fates.
-If one was to say that Soulsborne is a singular franchise, I'd HAVE to say Bloodborne. The lore, the world, the art direction, the music, it all works so well for me, and it's a game that's greatly influenced me when it comes to my own creative expeditions.
EDIT: Scratch SMT4, as good as it is, I HAVE to put Hollow Knight in my best of the decade.
smt4 is all right but goddamn does it have some huge problems that prevent it from being that great imo. like hey thanks for wiping out all those extra turns i earned and planned to use to buff with, npc partner i can't control who used a low accuracy or resisted spell against the boss, thanks pal.

I also think about NieR and Berserk at least once a week. I personally think that Automata is the better game, but I can totally see why you would choose the original. I definitely prefer the original's soundtrack. Holy shit that OST is an 11/10.

As someone that's played FE since 7 (Blazing Sword, GBA) and who's favorite games are the Tellius series (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, GC/Wii) I, from the depths of my heart, appreciate Awakening. Does it have flaws? Yeah all FE games do but it's still a good FE game and it saved this fucking series and without it we wouldn't have gotten Three Houses (which is really fucking good, Cvit please play it)

I like Fire Emblem I played 3 Houses and all the 3DS games, but I'm a stupid casual, for real, I play on casual mode. People say it's so good, maybe I'd be more into the older games. I have a plan to become a big fan, finish my current Black Eagles Playthrough, play Awakening on Classic, play Blazing Blade, Then Binding Blade, then replay Valentia on Classic, then Geneology of the Holy War, Path of Radiance if I can find a copy, Radiant Dawn, then play Fates except Revelations, then Thracia 776. My plan is to get used to classic mode and gradually get used to the harder games.
