Hola. Para postres en especial bizcochos no uses el convection oven usa el horno regular. Porque en el de convección se cocina la comida mas rapido y el bizcocho tiene que cocinarse con menos rapidez. Suerte.❤
I love watching your channel! I’m old enough to be your mom, but I just love the pace & tone of your videos. Love the music, how you explain all about living in a new place, your trials and tribulations, etc. you are very lucky to be out of this new political atmosphere here in US right now, to me it’s just gloom & doom and if we didn’t have family here, I would pick up and move in a heartbeat. So needless to say, your upbeat videos keep me going! Keep doing what you are doing, look forward to continued good vibes!
You may want to invest in an inexpensive oven thermometer. Many times, the temperature that is shown on the oven is not what is being produced, It could be too hot or too cold. Also it can vary from shelf to shelf. To test if your cake is ready, lightly press on it with a finger, and it should feel firm or spring back, then test with a knife or toothpick. To be ultra precise, you can invest in an instant read probe thermometer. A baked cake should be about 200-210 F internally. You will get there.
If youvuse the fan in the oven when baking, you have to lower the temperature with about 10 / 20 degrees. My oven is super old so i dont have a fan in the oven 🙈. I use over and under heat and place cakes in the middle of the oven. Bread is on the lowest rack in the oven. I also take out the pan that you left inside the oven, because it blocks the heat from the inside. Try takingbit out and place your cake in the middle to upper part and 🤞
Hi Ale, Lovely to see that you have joined a local crochet group, a great way to meet new friends and practise the more local Spanish, as well. Once you learn the basic stiches, the crochet world will be your oyster. I love crocheting and took to it straight away, I can knit, but I find it to slow. I learnt a bit from my nan, and from a book my with my friend during school playtimes/breaks, where practised the more complicated stitches. A top tip I will give you, is don't be to hung up on holding your hook on the way you are taught, I still hold mine between my thumb and index finger, but the shaft of the hook is palm side of my hand and not over it. A needlework teacher at school told me that everyone will find the way that works for them, when she saw me holding my hook and yarn different to the way most get taught. It has never hindered me holding it this way, still can do any pattern and keep my tension. As said, you will find the way that is best for you. Back in the 70s I made orders of ponchos and waistcoats for pocket money, as they were all the fashion then. Look forward to seeing your progress in learning this lovely craft. Before I forget, your sound is still very hard to hear in places, (not meant as a complaint, just a to let you know.) Have a great week.
Take out the baking tray that is in your oven. It prevents the fan from circulating the hot air fully. When using the fan/convection you need to lower the heat. That is why the box has several temps/methods. I also lower the rack to the lower third. Did you preheat the oven before putting the cake in? I know many say you don’t need to preheat with the fan but…I do. I love to crochet. I just found my next project and ordered new yarn. I’m itching to get started but my next few days are packed. I hope you have a great weekend.
Love your spanish vlogs. I use to live in Catalonia for 20 years but left Spain in 2007. It's nice to see life there again in your vlogs. I bake cakes at 160 degrees. 175 is too hot so it cooks to fast on the outside but raw on the inside. 160 cooks on lower heat but through the cake. Good luck!!
I love all your videos. They bring back so many memories from when we lived it Spain. Your struggles were mine. I never in 2 1/2 years figured out how to use the oven, and the washer dryer was difficult 😣. We never had any problems with drinking the water but I completely understand your hesitation. My husband had a work colleague that was there 1 year before us so he told us the water was good to drink.
I just love your videos and enjoy watching anything you get yourself into as you say. All the best to you on your crocheting journey and so thankful that you found such a supportive and helpful group!
I'm so happy you have found a hobby you enjoy and meeting new people is an added bonus!! ❤ I think it would be difficult to get used to an oven in another country. I applaud you for trying though! 👏🙂 Hang in there!
Hi, for baking the option you used is good, heat at top and bottom. I always use that one, the ventilation one not much. But i think it may have not worked this time because you left the oven tray inside the oven (not the rack but the one that was at the bottom) and that does not allow the temperature to be enough for the cake to cook properly. Take it out when you are not going to use that one. Also make sure the oven is preheated and warm enough, 5 minutes should be ok. And I would suggest/recommend that you try the traditional recipe that everybody in Spain uses to bake a plain cake instead of the store bought ones. It is a very simple recipe that everyone and their mother makes and never fails, my grandma always made it, everyone´s grandma made it 😂🥰 it is so simple and so good and you can adjust it in many ways, for example substituting 2 or 3 tablespoons (cucharadas) of the flour for cacao powder, the pure one. That to make a chocolate cake instead of the white one but you can adjust the flavor in other ways like using a flavoured yogurt (lemon or mango for example) instead of the plain one, or adding chocolate chips, or whatever you prefer. You can search for the recipe, it is everywhere with slight variations. I refer to it as el bizcocho de yogur ☺ Here is mine for the basic one: One plain yogurt of the usual small size (i think they are 150g). It can be Greek yogurt, they are creamier. Then you use the empty yogurt container to measure the rest of the ingredients like this, one measure of light olive oil, two of sugar and three of flour. 2 eggs, one envelope of baking powder, a small pinch of salt and the zest of a whole lemon (just the very thin layer without white part and I mix it well first with the sugar). I also add one teaspoon of vanilla flavor. Just mix everything by hand, no need for a mixing tool. First all wet ingredients, then you add the dry ones and that´s it. Temperature 175C and depending on your oven it would take like 45 min to an hour. I hope you give it a try and let us know how it turned out! 😉
Hi Ale, newish subscriber here. British but 18 years living in Spain so a lot of what you talk about really reminds me of my early days here 😅 Just wanted to add my advice about the oven. I use the fan assist (ventilation) for cakes at 165°C check at 30 mins but it might need more. Don't give up! You'll find the answer ❤
ok sister… take a closeup pic of your oven controls & ask those sweet ladies in your crochet class to explain to you. Good Luck… you are doing so well adjusting to new challenges. BTW your crochet looks great❣️
Ooh rebajas, nice! I loved the small yarn stores in Spain. My aunt taught me how to knit when I visited Barcelona as a kid. I could only do long straight things lol
For delicate bakes like the cake, just use normal oven setting not the fan assisted. If you have a meat thermometer you can temp check the middle to check for doneness. It should read 200F.
"the thing that turns the oven on" sounds like an oven timer, yo uare supposed to set it to however long you want the oven to be on for, so when it reaches 0 the ovens turns off. in my experience never use a fan setting for cakes it screws them up.
Bakery and diary products in Alicante are really good quality. In summer i was on Hols and my little one had a Birthay, so i made a cake with cream and IT was delicious. No fali with the cake spong too 😊
I’m so glad you made friends . It’s hard to as adults but It’s g you get involved I activities. Kids struggle going back to school after Christmas break.
Basicly the fan makes it cook it faster, and you do not have to pre heat your owen if you use it. But i do not use the fan option when i bake, because it is too hot and too hard for me to figure it out, but for meat or veggies i like to use it.
In South Africa we also use Celcius and a very good general temperature for any cake is 180 degrees. After about 30 - 45 min take the cake out the oven and prick the middle of the cake with a knife - if the knife comes out clean with nothing sticking on it, you know the cake is cooked. If the knife comes out with some batter still sticking to it, put it back in the oven for another 10 min and check again - do this until the knife comes out clean. Hope this helps??
Wow Ale, you are sooooo close to 100K subscribers. 2025 will be a great year as you grow into your authentic self and aim high. Stay true for you. Best wishes from Auckland, New Zealand. Carpe diem : - ) xx
May l suggest you purchase an oven thermometer (usually available at home goods or dollar store type places) and this will tell you if your oven is actually at the correct temperature, your thermostat on the oven may be inaccurate. Hope this helps.
Me encanta tu nuevo hobbie! Y conocerás gente, eso está fenomenal! Tienes que buscar el manual de instrucciones del horno en Google, ahí encontrarás todas las cosas que necesitas saber de su funcionamiento. Un beso desde Ibiza!! ❤
Hi Ale, thank you for the video. Question I’ve been wanting to ask; are your necklaces Ana Luisa? If so I have the same ones. You seem to wear them all the time. No tarnishing, even in water? I love them but am afraid to wear them too much, or in water! Thank you. ❤
Happy New Year, Ale! As always I enjoy your videos, and I'm glad you found a hobby! That was the key to my happiness for the many years I lived in Paris. I chose oil painting, but any hobby will do! I wish you a 2025 full of happiness and good health. ❤
Thats Nice you took,up crocheting and making New friends as well 😊 could be your oven thats not setting the temperature right ventilation probably means Fan / hot air oven. I have that some times with ours . Maybe needed a bit longer 🤔. other wise try something else see what happens mother wise ask some of the ladies at your crocheting class they might be able to help more .Good luck 🙏🤞.
Congratulations on the crochet! So good to know a craft that you can take anywhere and still talk to people. And best part you only ever get better at it the more you try. Great payoff!
Omg! The same happened to me , I when in December for vacation to Barcelona and try to make flan and was the same as you cake, the center was raw and the border was ok😅 , couldn’t work with that oven at all. Gracias por compartir tus experiencias yo veo tus videos pero no comento ( this’s my first comment 🙈 ) anyway , take care hugs Yorlis
Hi Ale, l dont comment on every video but just wanted to stop by and let you know lm still here watching and supporting you. Good for you trying out a new hobby, my Miss 21yr old has been knitting and crocheting for a few years just for relaxation, she loves it. Wondering if you might do an update in the future on your health and fitness journey. You look absolutely fantastic and fit so lm keen to know how you have maintained these great results post surgery. Take care of you. X
El corte ingles, I would say a cross with Fred Meyers/Macys/Nordstroms. You have home goods, fancy clothing and musical instruments for purchase (keyboards, clarinets, flutes etc). Granted my last in person visit was 2001. I do buy music/movies online from them. Fun store!
Love your videos about life in Spain! Wonder if you could please itemize your grocery purchase costs so I can compare to here in Canada? Thanks. Also about your oven and your cake coming out undercooked, wonder if when your oven says 180 degrees C it might only be 170 degress C or something like that? Perhaps see if George can borrow a high temperature scientific thermometer from his workplace or some one he knows or borrow one from the science lab at the school where your boys go to check this out. Also find out what altitude above sea level you are at. Duncan Heinz cake mixes here in Canada has special instructions for its cakes for those that live over 1,000 feet above sea level. Hope this helps.
I think you should ask your landlord to replace your oven since the ventilation doesn't seem to work. You can test with a toothpick if the cake is ready, and I'm sure you know that. 🙂 It's awesome that you picked out a crochet class and the tool you use for that is a crochet hook. Have an awesome weekend with your family, Ale. 🙂
ALE, CONGRATS ON HAVING A WONDERFUL FIRST CLASS AND MEETING NEW FRIENDS 🎉. MAYBE, ASK THEM HOW THE HECK THAT OVEN WORKS 😂😂😂. LISTEN TO GEORGE AND DON'T GIVE UP DEAR. YOU'VE GOT THIS 💪👍🤘. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT VIDEO. UNTIL THEN, GOD BLESS YOU 🙏✨.
Time to make a tortilla de patatas for you egg lovers. Great hobby group for you to help meet folks. Maybe a metal cake pan would work better than the glass one or just add more time.
Thanks for a great vlog, love that you went out to do the crochet class it's so great to learn and meet new friends at the same time. Loving the life in Spain vlogs keep them coming 🎉
How do you all survive living there when neither you or your husband have jobs? Lol looks like you just are on permanent vacation and being lazy. Must be nice
th-cam.com/users/WonderfullyAle when you opened the oven , the fan was not working , either the setting you put it on is not for the fan ( the ventilation as you called it) , or is broken, look for a manual for that model and if really broken talk to the landlord. Also remove the pan that is already in there when your going to cook in it , it stops the heating from the bottom and it will prevent proper air circulation , when the fan do work.

I will usually place foil over a baked item that needs to stay in the oven longer. It continues to "cook" ,but it doesn't over brown.

The crochet group looked so fun! I would love to hear more people speaking in Spanish, it makes me so nostalgic for when I lived there.

Is this recipe the bizcocho 1,2,3. ?
Ventilation is probably similar to a convection oven in the states. You got this. Have fun@@@@
Really enjoyed this! You have made a great transition. Somehow you seem happier and less stressed than in Florida😎. Keep up the good work.
❤️

Take that tray out of the bottom and get yourself an oven thermometer. They're inexpensive and will tell you if your oven temp is off.
I didn’t even think about the tray! Thank you!
El Corte ingles (probably incorrect name) is the BEST
Thank You for the video
Well love it ❤❤❤ 🎦
Hey ale may be some ingredients are missing in cake that’s why it was raw 😂
My Memah taught me when I was 6. Enjoy ❤
Convection oven is what you have. It's not a regular oven.
Time to make a tortilla de patatas for you egg lovers. Great hobby group for you to help meet folks. Maybe a metal cake pan would work better than the glass one or just add more time.

Do not let the pipette touch your skin.
Spain water is safe to drink!
How do you all survive living there when neither you or your husband have jobs? Lol looks like you just are on permanent vacation and being lazy. Must be nice
Haha if you say so.
