Thanks! I found this tutorial very useful and interesting. I wonder whether your guest, Alister Chapman, knows of a chart which might show the proper pairings of gamuts (color range) with their corresponding gamma curves (brightness and contrast)? I think that would be extremely beneficial.
you probably dont give a shit but if you guys are bored like me atm then you can stream all the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. Have been watching with my gf these days =)
Don't know if this is too old to ask a question but- in smaller ( cheaper ) Sony cameras - there are a lot of people picking a LOG for a gamma and then for a color mode choosing what I would think is a Rec709 color mode like Still or Pro, ITU709 etc. Alister mentioned picking too wide of gamut but didn't cover the opposite. What does it do to choose a rec709 gamut for a S-log2 for example? I see people using those combinations quite a lot. They seem to think the colors are better that way, but for me it seems like they are crippling the LOG capability and forcing a remapping. Any idea on that?
MICKYSTATEN : I could be wrong but that’s where Look Up Tables are useful. LUT’s decode them. As opposed to people using them to provide a certain look.
Huh how common is that gamut and gamma curve are set independently? Pro/Cine camera feature? Why would the option even be available if unpredictable/bad results are to be expected from a configuration mistake?

But how do we find out which gamut goes with which gamma curve? How do we know which one is the proper pair or proper link for each other?

Most cameras at the professional level let you set them independently to give people control over their workflow.
