I don't know if you're aware Samantha but this Clinic has been closed for well over a year possibly to buy now. Micah came to the Gambia from Germany and spent eight years here working on a vigilant spay and neuter project. Also trying to educate the population on how to the infestation of these mangoworms in control. He did an amazing job but finally it was time for him to take his wife and children back to Germany. We had hoped that someone would take over the clinic and continue his work but after a couple of months the clinic shut down. I can't remember exactly but I believe that Micah in his time in The Gambia spayed and neutered over 8000 dogs. He also found hundreds of new homes for the dogs many are even in America. Quite an accomplishment. It saddens me to think that it is probably working its way to becoming what it was. He now has a sheep farm in Germany I always thought this would make a great movie. I’m sure it’s very difficult to give back to the owners and animal that you know has been neglected and abused I cannot imagine a worse reality. I fail to comprehend how and why people have animals, pets, if they do not want to look after them. Why have them if they’re not going to look out for them? What is the point? Because when you do have them and you see them on a day-to-day basis suffering because of your inability to look after them in such a basic way as giving them food water shelter and keeping them clean and free of parasites. It’s not rocket science, it’s just common sense. Help me to understand, please.

This poor dog is suffering terribly. Every hole is infected and that is probably the most pus I've ever seen in one of his videos. I can imagine how beautiful these pups were before and it makes me sad. I truly hope you are able to find a new owner. There is no excuse, even in the Gambia. I've seen street dogs doing better.
I truly think that these people must have a different outlook on pets than we do. I don't think they consider it as bad to neglect an animal like us. It's honestly sickening to see these dogs in such poor states, but this is not even close to how bad I've seen them in his videos. There is one with two German Shepherd puppies that have the worst cases of mango worms I've ever seen. He has to put one down it's sooo bad, and the owner tries to say that they just started getting them to days before, eventhough the worms are two weeks old.
They need to pass a law that ever owner should spend the day at your clinic and remove worms. Can you have a follow up video for the dogs you have seen.

Why do people in The Gambia keep getting dogs that aren’t made for the environment and they end up suffering so much. I have a hard time watching this but the doctor and fatou do amazing work.
@@marionhenriquet2036 Why are you grrrrrring? A long-haired dog hailing from Northern Europe is not suited for an extremely hot continent, particularly when the fur conceals parasites of this magnitude.
status symbol, the more exotic looking their dog is the better these owners feel about themselves when nobody else has a dog like their. That's why you end up with idiots owning huskies and shepherds that end up suffering because they're not made for a climate like that, the owners don't care though cause they have something they can brag with
Thank god for Micha!! You are an angel for the dogs. Here in the US like you have told these owners in the past, they would go to jail for this. I have 3 dogs and there is no way would a take on the responsibility of an animal if I knew I could not take care of it. They are so precious and no matter how you treat them, they will give you conditional love, so with that the tables need to be turned. You are so good to all these animals that come through your clinic. I love that you are straight forward to these people who bring these beautiful fur babies for care. This dog here, I really hope you don't give him back to them. That is not just 1 or 2 weeks of neglect, this poor guy has probably been neglected since he was born. My mom would give that little guy so much love. I hope you can find a family that will love him as much as he would love a new owners.Plus dogs like him need to be groomed. Specially in the warm spring and hot summer. He can grow out his coat in the winter. Easy to maintain and easier to see any infestation. AND it is so easy for anyone to squeeze those and also so easy to pluck ticks out. I hate ticks they give me the creeps, with there little squiggly legs, but I would still pluck them out, because that is what a responsible owners would do. I have an idea for you Micha, you may have done this before, but maybe put flyers out, here and there on posts, windows on storefronts, or at schools for students to learn how to take care of there animals. Maybe take an animal who has been effected so bad and show the kids what happens to animals here in your town when they get infested with, ticks, fleas, mango worms, ring worm. Visual aid is the best way to learn, maybe depending on the age of the student, have volunteers come up to the table with you and show them how to remove and how easy it is. Send them all home with a flyer that is colorful and step by step how to directions. Show them before and after pictures on the flyers. It all starts at home and the message your sending will be carried onto classmates and other family members. before and after pictures of infestation-types of infestation-how to care for your animal in a cleaner type of environment and the does and don't when using blankets because bugs are attracted to smell and how to squeeze the mango worms out, how to pluck the ticks and how to bathe your animal. Like your boys when they see a picture and when they see what you do every day, but pictures say a thousand words.Specially children. Any way just some ideas to throw out there to you. People need to really learn how easy it is to control the infestations. Or try an advocate a new law of animal cruelty. Show the judge all what you see and do at work. Even ask if you could bring an infested animal to court, so the judge can see and smell the infestation and infections of what these animals have go through. Pictures like I said, explains things a thousand ways and smell is another sensory that can't be forgotten, but a live animal, who has been neglected and you want the judge to see first hand in the courtroom would never be forgotten in the judges eye. You can even have the judge to squeeze mango worms out. Doing this will give the judge a real life experience about what these animals look like, feel like and smell like. Example.. I live in Moore Oklahoma in the US. In 2013 an F-5 tornado destroyed my. You could see it on the news, you could watch the destruction on TH-cam, but to actually be here in real time, is so much different then in a video. The tears, the hugs, the help from friends to aid helpers and the sounds of medical sirens even the smell of natural gas and rotting food on a hot and humid spring afternoon all these memories now are still with me everyday, because of my sensory in my brain hanging onto, sight, smell, hearing and touch are all a Sensory that is a triggered of remembrance. I could go on typing about that day, but this comment is long as it is. Anyway I am done. I hope I made sense and I hope I didn't sound like a freak. God Bless you Micha and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I know you have moved on and I think moved away. But you are much loved and I’m so grateful for all that you did for these dogs. I do agree that it just gets so discouraging when no matter how much you try, the people seem to never care or get it.
Those "owners" should have to pay a fine for allowing their babies suffer, and not do anything to help before it gets to this point! That's just ligit carelessness, and 100% neglect!!
I thought that too, but to impose a fine would just stop people from bringing these poor animals to the vet for help in the first place. I think that also has a lot to do with why the vet seems so calm with the owners. It's better to educate than punish, for all concerned.
Brian Stone Yeah and what’s that suppose to mean most of the Dogs Fatou gets from the street unwanted left to die so I can’t understand your comment nearly all Misha work is from donations and Government aid.

The owners of these pets should be infected with "mango worms" just once to show them what their pets go through. Do I think it would make a difference? no but it might make them a little more aware of the problem.

I can imagine how beautiful these pups were before and it makes me sad. I truly hope you are able to find a new owner. There is no excuse, even in the Gambia. I've seen street dogs doing better.
Kira F, yes, there is NO excuse! Those wonderful dogs deserve so much better than the lazy, selfish scum that they are lumbered with!
He has to put one down it's sooo bad, and the owner tries to say that they just started getting them to days before, eventhough the worms are two weeks old.

what makes the worms soft like liquid?
They need to pass a law that ever owner should spend the day at your clinic and remove worms. Can you have a follow up video for the dogs you have seen.
I know you have your hands full but you're doing wonderful work and I'd love to have an update on this puppy and his siblings. I hope you were able to rehome them.
Me too. Let us know.
Poor baby! Thank you Micha for saving these dear innocent animals.

Yes
Poor baby. 😔
Why have a dog if you're going to neglect it like that?
Their so poor... Yet some of them dress like they could afford to at least try to protect their dogs from these worms.
Im not taking poor as an excuse. Just plain ignorance.
Cause I have seen homeless people with dogs and they way better than these dogs

Black people etc etc
@@jmleroux7400---Daniel, I don't recall anyone, but YOU! Making this inhumane situation about the color of people's skin. Do you also feel like the dogs W/ lighter color FUR, are better than the 1's W/ darker fur?? I doubt it. That' makes just as much since though.
1:20 Enjoy watching your videos especially hearing your comments & when you tell owners to take better care of their dogs. You are a savior for these puppies & probably thankless job.
Dr Meyers thank u for taping this. Even u r no longer doing this. I think u are the best. Damed those who used your video and put it up in You tube. I rewatched your videos all the time. 👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👌🏻
So very sad that you have left Gambia. Does anyone know if this vet has been replaced and if so has a new vet been hired are the dogs 🐶 still being cared for? Thanks
Why do people in The Gambia keep getting dogs that aren’t made for the environment and they end up suffering so much. I have a hard time watching this but the doctor and fatou do amazing work.
J.London They belong to people from other countries that have homes there too
@Dex4Sure Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
@@marionhenriquet2036 Why are you grrrrrring? A long-haired dog hailing from Northern Europe is not suited for an extremely hot continent, particularly when the fur conceals parasites of this magnitude.
Why because they are ignorant
status symbol, the more exotic looking their dog is the better these owners feel about themselves when nobody else has a dog like their.
God Bless you Micha and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
wendy mattson Good God that was a long comment
I know you have moved on and I think moved away. But you are much loved and I’m so grateful for all that you did for these dogs. I do agree that it just gets so discouraging when no matter how much you try, the people seem to never care or get it.
Amo o trabalho que vcs fazem nos animais. Moro em Santos no Brasil. PARABENS!!!😍😍❤
Hello??? Tell them NOT TO HAVE A PET
He does... And in so cases he keeps the animals, but it's Africa... Different laws... It's not like America...
Those "owners" should have to pay a fine for allowing their babies suffer, and not do anything to help before it gets to this point! That's just ligit carelessness, and 100% neglect!!
That is true
I thought that too, but to impose a fine would just stop people from bringing these poor animals to the vet for help in the first place. I think that also has a lot to do with why the vet seems so calm with the owners. It's better to educate than punish, for all concerned.
If you afford a dog why get one just to neglect don’t make any sense at all.
A lot of these dogs were feral street puppies taken in free of charge!
Brian Stone Yeah and what’s that suppose to mean most of the Dogs Fatou gets from the street unwanted left to die so I can’t understand your comment nearly all Misha work is from donations and Government aid.
@@calicoe3133 fairly certain these worms are fairly common but for some reason some owners just ignore daily treatment. Regardless the ones that do not care for them shouldn't have them in the first place

I wish the owner could get worms. That beautiful baby didn’t have to look like this. Great Job like always Micha❤️
they can technicaly its just that the worms like dog smell and have trouble burrowing through our skin its tougher than dog skin
Man....it's the pandemic in Africa. Both men and dogs get the worms except worms have harder time to burrow themselves in the human skin
Poor Sweet puppy 🐶 thank you for caring Micha.

I seriously love u guys n what u do!! I recently lost my mom n I am sad but u guys have helped in my inspiration to help and I thank you all! N Fatimou is beautiful
I hope this dog, and the others that you mentioned, are all up for rehoming. I can't imagine these poor animals going back to the "owners", if that's what you want to call them. The people taking "care"of these dogs are assholes for letting them get this bad.
That person should not have ANY animal in their "care". I wonder how they get fed, through a hole in their cage on the dirt?
Ride Free forever lots of blood and pus
These people who brought him in need their balls stuck in the sand so they can get larvae all thru their nut sack. That or they should be caned or whipped for treating any living creature this way. Pisses me off so bad!!!
What I dont understand, why do they wait until they get so bad. Obviously they see how bad skin has gotten. It breaks my heart. Poor fur-baby 🐶💗🐶💗🐶💗🐶

Thank you so very much Dr Micha for helping neglected animals and savings their lives, all is because you donated your time and talent to vet Gambia, I miss you, Sad to see many low lives are stealing these same videos and claiming them as their own, I stop the piracy when I can, by shaming them online.
Thank you for all you do for these dogs. It's hard to watch neglect like this. How the pup must have suffered unnecessarily.

Oh, I know it's terrible to say when a dog's in such a terrible
condition but that was mango popping nirvana! I don't know why I find it so enjoyable and relaxing to watch... maybe because it's good to see something being cleaned or something that was terrible being made better. Or maybe I'm just reverting back to my great ape roots 😁

PLEASE: WHAT HAPPENS TO THESE DOGS AFTER YOUR MEDICAL TREATMENT❓
The owners of these pets should be infected with "mango worms" just once to show them what their pets go through. Do I think it would make a difference? no but it might make them a little more aware of the problem.
@Adam Williams yeah, make them sit for a few months and feast on them. Tape their hands shut or to a pipe or something
Just beat them and take the dog
