Let me provide a little context for this video. I was in Sussex Tech's band this year (graduated in 2017), and I'm somewhere in this video in the back. This year was the BIGGEST our band ever was, and probably the most talented drumline we had, either this year or the next. We did a drumline battle with Dover every year during 3rd quarter. Out of all HS bands in Delaware, only three were styled after HBCUs - ST, Dover, and Smyrna (although Smyrna may have changed things up a bit recently). The former directors of ST and Dover - Harvey Bullock and Lenny Knight respectively - were best friends and college roommates at Delaware State University. Their dream was to run the DSU band together. Thus, a friendly rivalry began between the two high schools after both of them became directors. Bullock was diagnosed with bone cancer my freshman year in late 2013, and had to quit while he made a recovery. Tech got a new director in 2014, Ian Kenney - a fresh grad out of Penn State University and former drum major of the Blue Band, to carry on the strong legacy of Bullock. While it had a rough start, he managed to pull together a fantastic program, which is what you're looking at now. He has since left Sussex Tech. Lenny Knight unfortunately passed away in March of 2017. Harvey Bullock WAS (read edit) the director at Delaware State University, fulfilling his dream with Knight watching over him. EDIT: Uhhh so apparently Bullock was caught doing some, uh, "stuff" with a dancer in the Del State band a couple years ago. Now he works as a brass instructor at a music store 💀
Thank you for the history that goes with. I literally had chills as this group performed. The unison was awesome as was the entire performance!! I thoroughly enjoyed the enthusiasm and expertise. My sympathy to Lenny's family and friends for their loss.😪
Bro the way that guy dropped the stick and then just pulled a new one out and didn't screw up the entire thing was SMOOTH AS HELL that was dead-ass impressive!!
WOW, those kids are having LOTS of fun and this is a lot of fun to watch because of it. Yeah, I see what people are saying about the lines not being clean, etc. I'm a Drum Corps vet and a clean drumlines is what I'm used to as well and such WOULD indeed be better. But, then again this clip goes to show that I guess with all of the fun that they're having; well damn, it makes me overlook some of the dirt haha. And that's what's up! At least they're having lots and lots of fun and that's all that matters. That's the way it should be! This is something to take notice to and this could be something to show to a beginning Drumline to nevertheless show how fun being in a Drumline could truly be.

The first drum line suffered from what I call “popcorn syndrome”. However, they were definitely cleaner than my high school snare line. But they used a LOT of arm movement. Use the wrists! Girl on tenors....amazing. Bass line, kinda sloppy but had a few good runs. Second drum line...some popcorn but a bit cleaner by far. Also, they looked more polished and practiced. Technique was good. You can tell the schools that have the money for band programs vs those that do not. My opinion, first drum line played something a bit more technically challenging. Second drum line kept it simple. Which equates to cleaner runs...less popcorn. Dover wins.
Sorry I thought this was Dover and Sussex from jersey which aren't from far each other. Dover for sure won that battle. If Sussex tech is gonna play the last groove from a&t in the movie drum line please play it cleanly.

Sean Jacobs the other line they were battling. They stole cadences from Dover, (the blue and white), because they couldn’t make up good enough cadences on their own. They have always been know for stealing Dovers style.
As a member of my school Drum line, all I have to say is... Holy crap. Okay maybe that’s not all... My drum line is no where close to this. Then again, we’re only a year old now and we consist of 2 high schoolers and a bunch a middle schoolers, 5 being only in sixth grade (not including myself), which is the grade you can join in. So for many of us, and not just the sixth graders, we’re only about 2 1/2 semesters old. Even the people who were there last year started 3 quarter, so they aren’t TOO MUCH more experienced than the rest of us. And just for the record, we learned all out base cadences AND the song we play at halftime in the football games in just 15 hours (we all had a week in the summer where we learned the basics, so it was 3 hours everyday for 5 days), so if you consider it, yeah, there’s some sort of missing element that makes it sound so clean, but we’re pretty darn good.
How did this get to my recommendations? 😂😂😂 I laughed so hard watching this. I can’t believe these are high school bands. It would’ve made more sense if they were junior high lol. I’m from Atlanta and after watching this it made me realize how much we take our bands for granted

I could hear bystanders saying “ you stole that “. Who they steal it from ?
Sean Jacobs the other line they were battling. They stole cadences from Dover, (the blue and white), because they couldn’t make up good enough cadences on their own. They have always been know for stealing Dovers style.
Oh they definitely been watching the Spartan legion out of Norfolk Va! They did a great job!
dover wins, but some of the snare line stuff was really dirty
Yeah dude I'm center snare and oof
I prolly couldn't control myself I was there! They killed it
How did this get to my recommendations? 😂😂😂 I laughed so hard watching this. I can’t believe these are high school bands. It would’ve made more sense if they were junior high lol. I’m from Atlanta and after watching this it made me realize how much we take our bands for granted
Jose Ross I mean compared to some of the lesser known dekalb bands, these guys are actually better
Only 6 minutes in. That's impressive. Well-done.
They did that beautiful in so good to see young people enjoying music & dancing they're all so TALENTED
the girl snare player has my whole heart
It’s 2am and I’m still watching these. 😂
is the dover in de
Isaac Davis yea
The first song?
Dover got good stick tricks but in my opinion Sussex won. And don't get me wrong I ain't that good of a drumline player... yet.
GO DOVER HIGH I SEE YOU. KEEP DOING YA THANG I SEE YOU AND I AM MOST PROUD OF YOU ALL. GOOD JOB. I LOVE WHAT YOU GUYS ARE DOING AND I LOVE THE PERFORMANCE. GO DOVER HIGH.
Sussex was a little disrespectful honestly, Dover was very sexual and weird. In my opinion it was a tie. But Sussex had more energy :P
tie? what video did you watch ?
Did they percussion director go to Cookman or NCAT?
You cant beat Dover at their own game lmao
Maryland?
