    There's no way my cats would be this quiet throughout the process 🤣 how polite yours are
    Edit: a week later I finally switched their diet to raw and now I understand. They seem to always be satisfied! No more desperation for food, just asking politely. It's amazing

    Hi we love your videos. In an earlier video you said about getting a chicken carcass from a butcher, minced. I have a hand mincer that I used for mincing the smaller bones on a rabbit for my cat a few years ago, sadly no longer here. Do you have a link to the recipe with a chicken carcass? Many thanks, Brian

Honestly I've just looked I don't know if we ever did a video about carcass, however if you download the calculator from thr link in description you can just input carcass and that will tell you how much to use, you can naturally input any meat tou have and use this calculator to balance the batch you are making.

    I need some advice, I feel like am failing my two cats. When I first got them I had them on royal Canin, which they ended up hating and my female cat wouldn’t touch it, she was starving herself. so I switched to
    More natural pet food such as thrive, cores wellness, natures menu and wellness. They loved it until both of them decided they hated it, they wouldn’t touch it unless I was to put RAW chunks of meat and bone into their food and then they ate it. I started noticing though that they wouldn’t eat any of their wet food and just the chunks of raw meat and bone, so I thought I’d try them on a raw meat diet. Now I don’t have all the equipment or the supplements to add into it the mix, although I do plan on buying, so I ordered raw food from
    Natural instinct and purrform, and my cats absolutely HATE it. It’s to the point where Im getting stressed out because they are clearly very hungry, and I don’t want to give them kibble because my male cat has urinary problems as well as asthma, and my female cat gets really bad hair balls. They won’t touch any of their wet food either, I know they aren’t sick because whenever I make dinner for myself they come straight up and try to
    Eat my food. I’m finding this very challenging has anyone got any tips on how to get them to like their food? I’ve tried adding toppers as well and again they maybe eat a tiny bit then meow for something else!

    • @PixieandBluebell
      @PixieandBluebell  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey Rachael! Cats can sometimes be very difficult and fussy with their food choices. I think it's a great sign that they want to eat raw meat! :) as long as you keep the correct ratio of 80% meat, 10% organ and 10% bone and make sure you use meat with high contents of taurine (i.e. chicken thigh, hearts) you do not need to use any supplements. I would probably suggest to make a small batch of raw food for them and see how they react over a week or so. There is a very useful calculator available on Facebook group called Cat CRAP. Honestly, just give it a go, even if your ratio won't be perfect for the first few days, they won't develop any deficiencies, and that will give you some time to research it more, and hopefully, they will start eating better! In general, too much organ will give them loose poop, and too much bone will make it difficult for them to poop, and it will be white in colour. Another thing you could try is DOCs (depending on how you feel about feeding whole pray), just bear in mind they can be addictive, so I wouldn't suggest it as the only source of food. But that is basically one complete meal for them with the right ratio and nutrients :)
      I know this must be really stressful for you! I hope you'll find a solution 💕

We have 10 indoor cats (all rescues) We had one with yummy troubles, he saw at least 3 vets about 6-7 X & over $1000.00 in meds & prescription diets & didn’t get better. I decided to switch him to boiled chicken & his problem resolved. He’s gaining weight & feeling so much better! That was the final element to making the decision to make our own cat food!

    How long can you keep it in the freezer.?
    Once defrosted does it have to be used straight away?

    • @PixieandBluebell
      @PixieandBluebell  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      We normally keep it in the fridge for up to 2 days, as this is how long it takes our kittens to go through one box, I probably wouldn't keep it in the fridge for more than 4 days, as they can taste the difference between the fresh and not so fresh :)
      In terms of freezing, we never made a batch big enough to last more than a month, only because of our limited freezer space, but I know that people make it to last even two-three months and I'm sure that is fine too.

      Kittens should eat as much as they want, until they are about 1 year old, but after a while you can learn what portions they are actually able to eat :) we feed 3 times a day, early in the morning, late afternoon and then late evening, just before we go to bed. They can regulate their food intake on raw diet very well and we have never noticed them seemingly 'overeating' :)

    Hello guys! I’m writing you all the way from California. I have a 14 week old Ragdoll and I wanted to start a raw diet. I just wanted to ask a few questions:
    1. Around what age did you start the raw diet with your kittens?
    2. How big of portions did you start feeding at the age they first started raw food?
    3. Did pixie and bluebell take well to the diet at first or was there a little push back?
    if so, how did you tweak it or overcome the challenges of getting them used to it?
    Thank you so much! I love all your videos and I tune in every week :)

    You don't need lots of muscles to mix the meat well. Get a much bigger bowl, wash your hands well, and then mix it with your hands, like a real cook would, like kneading bread. If one is making meatballs for human consumption, you would mix the meat with your hands and shape them into balls. What's the difference?? You can wash your hands afterwards!

    • @PixieandBluebell
      @PixieandBluebell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey! I have wondered that too. As far as our research goes, refreezing is unsafe for humans, because of bacteria that can develop in the process, but cats' very acidic stomachs are said to be dealing with that just fine.

    Hi there! Awesome video! I’ve learnt a lot from you and various youtubers and have a couple of questions for you or for any kind person who wants to help me out! My boyfriend and I have a 6 month old Maine Coon who has a blood disease, his blood doesn’t coagulate and he has low iron and a low platelet count, and also a 2 month old Siamese who has trouble gaining weight (she is healthy! no worms no nothing! just fast metabolism) and wanted to ask for your opinions on a couple things:
    For the cat with a blood disease, I was thinking of adding slightly more liver to his diet, so it ends up being 75 muscle meat/10 bone/5 organs and 10 liver, but i’m worried about the vitamin that is bad in excess (i think it’s vitamin A, not sure correct me if wrong). I was thinking of using chicken liver for the liver source. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I should split his diet in order to cater a bit better to his blood problems? Any specific additional ingredients i should incorporate?
    For the kitten who has trouble gaining weight, would adding more fatty meat be a bad idea? What should I add in order to bulk her up a bit? I can’t up her daily food intake by a lot because then the vitamin and nutrient intake is out of balance in comparison to her size and age. Any ideas and advice?
    We currently have both on a diet consisting of Hills kitten kibble, grain free chicken wet food, and a couple days ago we started adding a chicken heart and a bit of liver for each of them daily. I would ask my vet, but none around me believe a raw food diet is sustainable (mainly because they’re required to push expensive healthy kibble onto us to buy from their clinic LOL)
    Thank you !
    Also just wanted to clarify, I am in no way trying to fix his blood disease with a raw diet rather than seeking vet treatment! The only solution for his issue is several bone marrow transplants, which are incredibly expensive (over 1,500 just for one single treatment, just for the surgery itself, not including medication and any other ongoing fees) and just not attainable for us right now (both Uni students, minimum wage jobs etc). When we are more financially stable, we definitely want to do that for him, but we are looking for the best way to manage it and help him possible for right now!

    • @PixieandBluebell
      @PixieandBluebell  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Ohhh I feel for you! I will start with the kitten. Kittens should eat AS MUCH AS THEY WANT 🥰 give her food all the time, especially with raw food, she'll be capable of adjusting her eating correctly. Go with fatty meats as cats do need that! For a small kitty, you can add more bone, 15%. But just make sure she has access to food at all times, so she can grow properly!
      I wish I could give you an advice for the other kitty, but given his disease, I do not feel comfortable advising you. I can only suggest to maybe find a pro-raw vet who will be able to do a phone consultation and help design a diet suitable for your kitty! 💗

      Taurine is essential in cats' diet, but they can get it from a balanced diet based just on the choices of the right meat, so it is not necessary, but I know that some people do supplement. I'm sure supplements won't do any harm, but they are not required if the recipe is well balanced :)

    Doesn’t raw chicken have parasites? And pork? Does that affect the food?

    • @PixieandBluebell
      @PixieandBluebell  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We use human grade meat and previously frozen pet grade organs and hearts. Freezing meat would kill parasites, if there were any. In terms of bacteria, cats have a very short digestive system and their stomachs can deal with any sort of bacteria very well. I would only worry about parasites if you were to feed wild meat, which would definitely be checked and frozen for an appropriate period of time before feeding to your cats. Otherwise, raw meat is perfectly fine for cats to eat :)
