This is a good review, and great to see this game get some attention; there are a couple of misconceptions I noticed. 2:12 The sleepyhead is generally a good thing, since it recovers health (you can almost always press a button to remove a head early, with a few exceptions). And 3:30, the secret final level code is randomised, so every time you start a new game it creates a new code, meaning playing the basketball game is crucial to seeing the bonus level. Yea, I played it growing up :D Fav game on the megadrive, which is my fav console, thanks for giving it some spotlight!
I used to play this at a friend's house when I was maybe 11 ish. Circa 1996. Fond memories of its odd design and sometimes brutal difficulty. We never finished it but got close. I've now repurchased a Megadrive/Genesis and also found a copy of this game on eBay
Just played through this recently, super under appreciated and fun game. As a younger retro gaming fan finding gems like this is such an amazing experiment
I started playing this game on the ps3 sega Genesis ultimate collection when I was 4 years old. I only beat it 2 days ago, and I’m 14 now! I first got stuck at 3-4 when I was 4, then my dad sold the ps3 and it wasn’t until I was 9 that I got a ps3 again, and was able to beat the boss, I oddly got stuck at the final boss. Not even Baby Face, The Gatekeeper or Twin Freaks stopped me that easily. Huh.
U didnt mention no continuse kinda sucks having to play whole game again after 1 failure deal breaker.. Can u do a video about games with Continues vs no continues?
Hella underrated, played it on the xbox 360 during my childhood and them proceeded to only remember the main character and forgetting the name for years untill just an hour ago on a call with my friend where we heard a sega genesis song in a video (it was one of the alex kidd themes) and sparked the thought back in to my head, now that I have the name, I'm actually so happy to play it again, I'll be it on a windows emulator
I actually got this game as a kid as a birthday gift when it came out in '94. I originally had heard about it in GamePro and it looked amazing! It is a great platformer, to be sure, but the back half of the game gets a crazy difficulty spike. It probably is one of the most demanding platformers I've played on the Genesis. I've only ever made it halfway through the game before spending all my continues. I'd argue the Japanese version is superior to the US version due to the fact that it actually has dialogue and a story to follow. Not only that, but the Japanese version also makes it easier to collect continues (and you're going to need them).
Great video! I never really played this one before but I'd heard of it. I saw it in a pawn show a couple weeks ago and was excited to buy it until I saw they were asking for $130!! Too rich for my blood.
Amazing game, though I had to practice a few bosses on an emulator with save states as 3 lives and no continues is pretty unforgiving with how long it takes to get back to the later, harder bosses
Easily the most underrated Genesis game. I am gonna be honest here. While Treasure gets praised for almost everything, In my opinion Dynamite Heady , Gunstar Heroes, Guardian Heroes, and Sin and punishment star successor are easily the best 4 . Dynamite heady in my opinion is easily one of the top 10 Genesis all time best. I personally feel a few Treasure games are overrated but those 4 I mentioned are rediculously awesome.
3 years post answer after a three year old post. just played this game for the first time. absolutely can not get into it, at least yet. it actually seemed too chaotic at points however not in a good way ala contra hard corps or gunstar heroes.
Not that great in my opinion. Not really a fan of Treasure. Most of the games are OK to me, but not that great. Radiant Silvergun is the exception, I love that game. I was soooo disappointed with Guardian Heroes.
Nobody ever talks about this game, its so underrated and one of the best Mega Drive games.
Yeah, it's such a fun game that I like to come back to.

Nice! You'll have to see if you can beat it now :)
DON'T AVOID THE SLEEPING HEAD IT'S HOW YOU REFILL YOUR LIFE METER
I finally learned this!
Just played through this recently, super under appreciated and fun game. As a younger retro gaming fan finding gems like this is such an amazing experiment
This is hands down one of the most underrated 16-bit games i ever played
I have played the game and I love it
I deserves the “Sonic Mania” treatment

No I haven't played it, but it looks like my jam.
It probably is! See how long it takes you to get past "Stair Wars". That's where most first timers get stuck.

I LOVE everything but twin freaks
Yeah twin freaks sucks
I remember the days of the video game rental I rented this game countless times. I have never completed the game though..........
1:15 you just missed a secret bonus point also the secret level code is randomized
I’ve played this game before and it is so so cool

Yes, I have the Japanese and American versions. I am thinking about purchasing the Game Gear version.
Amazing game, though I had to practice a few bosses on an emulator with save states as 3 lives and no continues is pretty unforgiving with how long it takes to get back to the later, harder bosses
both ristar and headdy where awesome, i played ristar on my genesis and headdy on my game gear
Just got this for my game gear and its so effing difficult

I beat the game so many times.
By the way, every code is random, so your plan on telling your viewers to look it up was a total failure.
