If you’re coming to the comments and still don’t know where you want to start, use the age old trick. Pick whatever rider suit you think looks coolest and start there.
*insert angry comment of the "but Ghost!" variety* Jokes aside, I still consider Build the best starting point. Also, amazing video as always. Edit: Typos.
For me Kamen Rider W was a deep dish pizza of Kamen Rider that tailored towards people who LOVE detective fiction and movies. Pays homage to the legendary hard boiled detective Philip Marlowe as well. That's my favorite Kamen Rider. Second is Kamen Rider Black which was pushing the limits of being a kid show with horror elements that was very light hearted. Extraordinary stuff.
bruh I literally just got into the series last month with Kamen Rider W and Black and completely agree. Are we twins?? Now I'm a few episodes from the end with OOOs, and watching Gaim separately, because my friends got in to OOOs and I need to wait for them. I've been absolutely devouring the series
Thank you for letting me be a part of this! I see that W got all the love and for good reason! Funny enough I personally try not to recommend Build or Gaim since they're so good, everything will seem like it can't live up. I dragged some of my community into watching Kamen Rider and I started them with Fourze personally, then Den-O, then finally showed them Gaim and now we're on Build and they're loving it, it's hard to not talk about so I have to sit back and bite my tongue at all the foreshadowing.
I'd recommend OOO as a starter, I've shown multiple people who don't like toku the first episode and they really enjoyed it so it's doin something right, W, Ex-aid, Build and ZO for my money are good starting points too. Or you can go with anything that looks cool, something you could also do is relate a lot of media that you like generally and choose your first season off of that
I picked Amazon as my start since I generally enjoy darker series and liked the maturity of it. I was also worried that the tokusatsu style would put me off the franchise as a whole, so going into a more mature season made me more comfortable with the crazy suit designs. After that I've started Zero One and Geats, both are quite fun.
@@bigmanmccheez5342 I think you're referring to Amazons, Amazon is still dark(in a campy way) but it's nowhere near as much. Zero one and Geats are good too, out of the Reiwa seasons Revice is probably my personal favorite though from what I've seen of it.
My first was Dragon Knight, but my first mainline was Drive. Both are good entry points imo, with great main characters, solid stories (for the most part), and they're both thoroughly entertaining throughout. Though imo the best starters are W and Build, as both are solid enough entries on their own, have a great balance of humor and seriousness, have fun characters, mostly solid stories, and are also entertaining in their own rights.
My first Kamen rider is Gaim. My friend told me the basic concepts of three different series. And considering Gaims insane development over time definitely impressed me. And after watching a bunch of other series after rewatching Gaim. I can say it's first episode gives us great characterization about Kouta and sets up a lot of mysteries to draw people in.
Gaim is my first too, but in a different way, since I was looking on TH-cam and was looking into sentai teams that haven't been adapted into pr, since I'm pr fan and was interested in those different teams across the sea and wanted to see what I could expect from pr ecstatic wise, and found a clip from toquer gaim crossover and the rest was basically history
I checked out a bunch of them to try and find a “first show” and W ended up being the one that hooked me. Great characters, great gimmick, great action. Still working through it, tho - though I realize I’m in fir a treat here.
First Rider season I finished was Dragon Knight. Honestly I was surprised with what they were able to acomplish. It's a fun season and it can help some people transition into the Rider format much easier.
That's also the first season i completed when i wanted to check out Kamen Rider again LMFAO, currently on Kuuga and i'm planning on watching the original Kamen Rider Ryuki afterwards XD
Yeah, I think we all forget about Dragon Knight. It is about as direct as you can imagine an Americanized Kamen Rider adaptation looking like (though, the Japanese show is allowed to be so much darker) & its easier to follow for people who aren't used to foreign media yet.
I'd agree as I absolutely adore Dragon Knight, although I can see some being put off a bit by the acting, if you can get past that then it's definitely worth a look if you can find it
My first Kamen Rider was Zi-O. I had just discovered Super Sentai with a clip of Gokaiger and wanted to see what else the Japanese versions had that the American version didn’t and I was recommended Zi-O, probs cuz it was what was most recent at the time and it was the 1st time I ever searched it, and from there I went on to love Tokusatsu mostly cuz I was able to see a sort of generalization of the premise of each of the Heisei era shows and was able to determine which season to start next, plus the suits, characters, plots were just so cool.
My first season was Kamen Rider Den-O. At the time I was watching the current season of Super Sentai, so I thought it would make sense to look at the current at the time season of Kamen Rider. It turned out to be the best season for me because it was light hearted and fun and helped me out at a certain time in my life. The Imagin had such colorful personalities. Later down the line I feel Kamen Rider OOO has a special place to me because I started to get my brother and buddies into Kamen Rider. They didn't all get into it, but from then on what they thought of when it came to Kamen Rider was OOO. The ska music and Eiji's unique hippie style and the colorful animal themed forms were highlights for sure. Fourze has a special place in my heart thanks to the high school setting and space themes. Since then many seasons have come out that can be seen as the best, like W, Gaim, and Build.
My personal opinion for the show to start with is actually Kiva. The character development of the main rider, the early brevity, the exceptional drama, along with the fact that it tells 2 stories at once without ever being confusing, shows how well the narrative flows. Its everything I love about Rider, boiled down into one glorious package. Also, EVERYONE IS HOT AF! As a pansexual, I greatly appreciate this!
My first time watch kamen rider at 2021, I start watch kamen rider x first before others riders series like showa, heisei and reiwa. This is how I starting. 👍👍👍👍
My first Rider was Fourze and it was very fun, I went into Rider knowing almost nothing about it and Gentaro (main rider) also knew nothing about being a Kamen Rider but he was very hyped about it, so I agree it’s a great first show. I chose it for the high school theme and really liked the show and characters!
I started watching Kamen Rider today and started with Amazon. It's darker than the usual series but still has the slight "campy" nature to it. It got me more comfortable with the style of tokusatsu and has made me dip my toes into less serious more childfriendly seasons. Decided to give Geats a shot and will definitely be watching it.
My first Kamen Rider that I finished all the way through was Kamen Rider Gaim and it definitely sparked my interest despite the initial silly fruit theme. I stopped watching for a while after that and my re-entry to the franchise again was Kamen Rider Zero One and man. I remember tearing up during the first henshin scene in Zero One because the feeling of catharsis was just too much. It's honestly the season I would recommend to anyone that wants to get into Kamen Rider.
Imo, if you’re a new fan, I recommend any show from Heisei phase two except Zi-O (anniversary) and I hate to say it, Ghost (considered the worst out of the heisei phase 2) I personally started with Fourze and W right after, and both shows are a great place to start. Simple storylines, great characters, simple themes, and all in all great shows. I also recommend watching the current Kamen Rider season along with the other shows you’re watching because at least while you’re waiting for the next episode, you got another show to watch
I love how nobody said my choice: Zi-O. It shows off a lot of key things about Kamen rider, such as forms and secondary riders, early on, it shows off all the other riders of the heisei era quite well, and you get Woz. Because honestly while one of the most confusing characters in all of rider, Black Woz (and by extension White Woz x3) is just great, and you have a lot of previous riders making cameos and appearances.
For me it was Blade but for a while I ended up dropping Blade, not because it was bad just it felt slow (but I did finish it like last week and I did enjoy it for what it was) however the first one I ever fully watched or finished was Amazons (2016) which is the one I would recommend people start with if they want to see Kamen Rider in full serious mode, and it also has really good well choreographed action with really good drama and likeable characters with it, and a pretty good OST, oh and it's also very short with only two seasons both being 13 episodes and a movie that is canon to the show. I would also say Kabuto is a good start as well considering it feels like a very late 90's to 2000's Toonami-esque show and it some pretty cool action and the clock up ability gives a lot of very cool set pieces.
My first kamen rider was Dragon knight lol. But I would definitely recommend either W or Build. W because the series aired in the middle of heisei era and you can just basically enjoy the story just by watching it. Whereas Build is in the later part of heisei era which means it's the era where spin-offs and movies are really common in the franchise, so you might gonna need to watch some spin-off and movies to fully enjoy Build... Both starting point has their own pros and cons...
Lots of great reasoning for first time watchers in this video. My first was Kabuto. Lots of amazing suit designs. Badass fights, comedy, mystery and with a splash of the thing/invasion of the body snatchers.
For newcomer today, especially those familiar with Japanese drama, I would go with W. First, it has Masaki Suda, a popular actor today so many would be familiar with him. Second, the pace and story feels familiar to a typical Japanese drama. Runner up would be Den-O. Because it's funny (thus easier to digest) and it has Takeru Satou. So non toku fans might stick longer to watch the series. "Hey, want to watch something? The guy that played Kenshin is in it." Fourze is a second runner up. Again, because of familiarity of the actor outside toku, Sota Fukushi. People tend to stick around if they at least know the actors/actresses. But the costume can be a turn off for some. Seasons to avoid: Gaim (people I've met were so easily turned off by the fruits for some reason). And Decade (too confusing for even fans, let alone newcomers).
I dont really remember how i started with kamen rider since i watched it for as long as i can remember. My advice for kamen rider is to find what you think is the coolest suit and start from there.
My first rider series was decade back in 2009 that was when people uploaded episodes on to youtube while it wasn't the first rider series I discovered it was the first I saw fully all the way though
Dang, that's a surprising amount of love for W... maybe the W is short for Welcome? That said, as someone whose fall into the Toku wormhole began by just randomly finding Build's suit... yeah, it's a perfect show for this series' necessary build-up. *ba dum tss*
My first time watching Kamen rider is Ryuki, hehe... Because I can't believe that plot, the Character, the suit, Comedy, Mystery, and Nice storyline. I never crying about Ryuki's user Shinji Kido loses again since childhood kid.
My first Kamem Rider was Ghost, so take that as you will, but I had fun with it. In terms of what I'd actually recommend, probably Den-O; it feels like a good first rider if you're used to sentai/power rangers and want to transition into Kamen Rider
Personally, I feel that if you're coming into Kamen Rider without any prior experience with toku, W is really the best place to start. I've met people who, despite having watched plenty of anime, see Kamen Rider and associate it with the American Power Rangers, and are apprehensive from the start because of the association of it being 'for children'. But W's story features mature themes from episode one which helps to dissuade that logic, and features a likeable cast of characters that make for a very overall engaging experience. It's not to say that it's necessarily the best overall series (Though it's definitely in my top 5, personally) I would say it best exemplifies both everything good about the seasons that came before it without being too dated to look cheesy while also eases the uninitiated into the concepts of multi-form riders and the often times cartoony gadgets of the seasons that proceed it in the least jarring, and most appealing way.
my first KR exposure was black when i was a kid, hanging out with friends to watch it but never got to finish the whole series since it was on national tv and reruns and internet was not a thing yet.. blade was my first completed series thanks to tv-nihon.. i love everything about blade including the music, characters and the undeads.. i love the rouse cards that i have to write them in my playing cards.. but for actual recommendation to beginners, i say start with any anniversarry series like ZX or zi-o because the showcase some of the past riders and i would say just pick anyone that attracts your attention.. if his suit is cool, if his finisher is cool, his weapons or gadgets or gimmicks, start from there and never look back..
Because i grew up watching Agito I'd recommend that series as a first step if anyone wants to start to dive deep into the world of kamen riders The reason why, it's because i think it was the first series to have multiple riders fighting as a team Don't get me wrong, i know that ZX (Zed-Cross) introduced this concept first in the past but, every rider in that series has their own storyline in their own series so i don't really think that was very special. I won't talk about changing forms because it was invented first by black RX and was perfected first by kuuga so at the time it was just a staple concept in Agito And i think this last reason is the major breakthrough Agito made, technically you have to watch the movie to get to know it but yes, the very first official appearance of evil rider. It gave an idea that a kamen rider wasn't always gonna fight monsters but another kamen rider which was supposed to be a superhero to fight for humanities too. And it also become the staple concept in future kamen riders too so i think Agito is the perfect series to start getting into the franchise.
IMO, start with any series. doesn't matter the storytelling. JUST WATCH. That's what I did. i watched Kamen Rider Build because I heard the theme song compilation of Heisei Riders and it was a banger.
Boy if only I could find the time and energy to go back to making youtube videos. Maybe then I could be in a video like this... And get to make fun of Jacob.
My first kamen rider was Oz, to be honest it was really great and makes you interested in kamen riders but it definitely sets expectations up some where which is a barrier hard to break, so I think kamen rider w is a better choice. It’s slower pace and still packed with a lot of stuff
I did saber as my 1st KR it’s Ight but it picks up amazingly around episodes 20+ like the 2nd arc loved it and I’ve done gaim decade wizard and the demon stamp one forgot the name gonna do build and zi - o soon
I think on top of the whole "there's over 50 years of Franchise lore bloat that gets referenced if even slightly" thing, I'd rather present instead "best first season" instead sorta present what kinda tone or general taste which seasons give, where "Showa + Early Heisei/Part 1" are "darker and grittier" generally...but also have much rougher sfx (also noting that from Kuuga > Blade is shot at 60 fps and can feel weird), while future seasons like Heisei pt2 + ESPECIALLY Reiwa are extremely cgi sfx savvy...on-top of generally being goofier (not always like with Gaim or the latter half of the season but y'know you're not gonna have some one kill a school of kids and ram the monster of the week out to sea for it). I'd still agree with OOOs as maybe the actual best since while W sets up a clean slate for Heisei pt 2...it REALLY front loads how toygetic and CGI dependent it can be from like ep 1, and also I'd kinda want the person to understand that while I LOVE the Noire/Detective + Duo partner gimmick of W, it might be misleading to another genre than just straight up telling that Kamen Rider is very much a Henshin (super) Hero genre pillar and very much about screaming about their YUME (Dream), and OOOs just feels much closer to a platonic ideal of that. of course most of these are Heisei plus Zero-one, the least controversial Reiwa, and I think so much is actually valid, but I am genuinely more curious about of Showa would be pallettable to a fresh set of eyes. of course if instead of just a generic new interest, we could narrow more to taste (dark and edgy vs friendly and light hearted; more or less battley vs melodramatic; taste and tolerance of visual effects etc...) that would better tailor for even of the above what that kinda person would like. cuz I mean...so long as it's not Hibiki or Ghost first, most are probably a safe first show bet
in the special ep of ryuga, snake dude who suspose to die in end of series revived and be temp ally of him then fly away, one of the MOST cringe plot ever
I started my friend's with decade cause it gives the most basic info about previous (and he's my favorite) but I HAVE to warn them that decade as a series is not that great, his story is dependant on the other riders until the end but it's fun the entire time. But I immediately move them into a much better series, which would be gaim, build or zero one
All Kamen rider series is good overall, it is just that there are some Kamen rider series that is somehow between good and mediocre (but worth watching too, if you want to kill time, like Kamen rider ghost), I would just say go watch according to your preferences (from 20+ Kamen rider series there muat be one that is at least in line with your preferences)
Since most seasons have little to no relevant connections to one another, I would say any season from Kuuga to present, excluding Decade & Zi-O, because those seasons rely heavily on crossovers & time travel into others series' for their plot & largely operate under the assumption that you know what is happening. Plus, Decade gets so weirdly AU with its representations of previous series that it kind of ruins your perceptions of what those shows are actually about. I won't crap on the three stand alone 90s films- Shin, J & ZO- either, though I only ever watched J all the way through, so far. Not as much happens in the hour & a half format, but the budget is bigger & the effects & stunts are top notch when compared to any of the shows. Even the monsters in J seem more threatening.
Im honestly half surprised no one said ryuki/dragon knight as its the only american version of kamen rider we have other than masked rider. Easing an english speaking audience with that wouldnt be a bad idea
i just start watching kamen before a month and i saw w,ex aid, revice only those threes next continuing series is saber my first was revice because first of all i don't know about kamen rider i just show it is like super sentai so i wanna gotta try!
My first proper Kamen Rider series I watch was Kamen Rider OOOs and since then i became a Kamen Rider fan. A friend recommend me to watch kamen rider and i pick OOOs because he looks cool. I love the story telling, characters, its OST and fight scene of OOOs, it made me go back and watch the previous Heisei Kamen Rider series. To anyone who want to watch Kamen Rider and don't know where to start, I will say watch whatever looks cool to you, maybe the suit is cool or the theme is cool and start there.
I think zio, decade, revice shouldn’t be the first to watch, it should be the last because of showing and talking about past riders might be confusing, but to me I think fourze, den O, OOO and build are definitely the firsts to watch for me
I started from Decade, just cuz Decade basically sums up all the Heisei riders before him😂 Note: I watched the English adaptation of Ryuki twice before watching OOOs. Then only started from Decade, all the way to Ghost(unfinished).
If you’re coming to the comments and still don’t know where you want to start, use the age old trick. Pick whatever rider suit you think looks coolest and start there.
*insert angry comment of the "but Ghost!" variety*

That said, as someone whose fall into the Toku wormhole began by just randomly finding Build's suit... yeah, it's a perfect show for this series' necessary build-up.

HAI ARUTO JAAAA NAITOOO!!!!

My first time watching Kamen rider is Ryuki, hehe... Because I can't believe that plot, the Character, the suit, Comedy, Mystery, and Nice storyline. I never crying about Ryuki's user Shinji Kido loses again since childhood kid.
I'm a big fan I will watch everything
My first Kamem Rider was Ghost, so take that as you will, but I had fun with it. In terms of what I'd actually recommend, probably Den-O; it feels like a good first rider if you're used to sentai/power rangers and want to transition into Kamen Rider
another good gritty Kamen Rider show is Kamen Rider Amazons (not the 1974 show)
it's also super easy to watch bc it's on amazon prime
My first Kamen rider was V3 my uncle got me into it after I finished watching kikaida and kikaida 01
It's not to say that it's necessarily the best overall series (Though it's definitely in my top 5, personally) I would say it best exemplifies both everything good about the seasons that came before it without being too dated to look cheesy while also eases the uninitiated into the concepts of multi-form riders and the often times cartoony gadgets of the seasons that proceed it in the least jarring, and most appealing way.
i agree with decade, it's basically rider 101 as it's a way to pick that one series you feel is best as your actually start
ew decade has an awful storyline, some other riders' setting doesn't match the og one, not to mention its awful ending
my first KR exposure was black when i was a kid, hanging out with friends to watch it but never got to finish the whole series since it was on national tv and reruns and internet was not a thing yet.. blade was my first completed series thanks to tv-nihon.. i love everything about blade including the music, characters and the undeads.. i love the rouse cards that i have to write them in my playing cards.. but for actual recommendation to beginners, i say start with any anniversarry series like ZX or zi-o because the showcase some of the past riders and i would say just pick anyone that attracts your attention.. if his suit is cool, if his finisher is cool, his weapons or gadgets or gimmicks, start from there and never look back..
Build is pretty good
Hot take:Kamen rider lore is more complicated than fate lore
In my opinion, I think people should start kamen rider W because it has got charaters simple yet great asthetic and overall very fun to watch.
Because i grew up watching Agito
I'd recommend that series as a first step if anyone wants to start to dive deep into the world of kamen riders
The reason why, it's because i think it was the first series to have multiple riders fighting as a team
Don't get me wrong, i know that ZX (Zed-Cross) introduced this concept first in the past but, every rider in that series has their own storyline in their own series so i don't really think that was very special.
I won't talk about changing forms because it was invented first by black RX and was perfected first by kuuga so at the time it was just a staple concept in Agito
And i think this last reason is the major breakthrough Agito made, technically you have to watch the movie to get to know it but yes, the very first official appearance of evil rider.
It gave an idea that a kamen rider wasn't always gonna fight monsters but another kamen rider which was supposed to be a superhero to fight for humanities too. And it also become the staple concept in future kamen riders too so i think Agito is the perfect series to start getting into the franchise.
wow, LOTS of people vouching for W, huh. can't complain, it was my first Kamen Rider so I'm biased too
Maybe cuz the new ss2 anime versions
1. W
2. Gaim
3. Build
4. Zero-one
Do like i did and pick Decade. Totally no complications will come from this.
Let me say this: I was the guy who said that Hawk never watched Build. I’m sorry. To make up for it, let me say this:
GO WATCH BUILD!
Thank you
You heard the child!
GO WATCH BUILD!
no, it sucks
in the special ep of ryuga, snake dude who suspose to die in end of series revived and be temp ally of him then fly away, one of the MOST cringe plot ever
@@李浩然-i8m You just don’t understand pure art, you VTuber.
@@Hawkilles My favorite part of Kamen Rider Build was when Sento said "It's Buildin' Time," and builded all over Evolt. Truly peak fiction.
I actually started with decade 😬
My first kamen rider i watch was kamen rider build
I started my friend's with decade cause it gives the most basic info about previous (and he's my favorite) but I HAVE to warn them that decade as a series is not that great, his story is dependant on the other riders until the end but it's fun the entire time. But I immediately move them into a much better series, which would be gaim, build or zero one
11:51 my mans just did Simon from what culture wrestling. Too many interests colliding
It was suppuse to be W but after watching 4 episodes i get Hook to OOO so accidently OOO was my first.
Let me hit it!
Ah my first is OOO man kame rider was werid but i see it now the cool
I started Drive... and my second was Zi-O :p
now. I'd say its W because of Fuuto Pi anime
Edit: Gaim... silly... yeah its silly :p
Hey hawkilles can make a video about what kamen rider series is perfect for a USA remake adaptation
W!
Definetly the original, but kamen rider black was amazing.
Watch the orginial, amazon, or black, they are very good, if any watch black.
I wonder... has Zi-O and ZO ever met?
I feel like that should of happened for an anniversary event or something.
Where to watch
Kamen rider zi o is my first one
My opinion I would suggest Kamen Rider Black.
My first rider Is W I saw it in my tv dubbed
For me, Decade gonna make people want to watch other kamen riders
M
hey marcos
*in Patrick's voice*
You have it as M for Mini when it should be upside-down for Wumbo!
Watch decade first it actually shows you each team power and who they fight
GEEED(as in ultraman?) 11:18 uhhh “HEY JEFF TOEI CAN WE GET A COUNTER OF HOW MANY TIME THE CAST OF OOO SAID GREEED(GREED)?”
“And also how many times they said Eiji!”
Sadge no Faiz or Ryuki but understandable
I vouched for Faiz, but my bit didnt make the cut. 😅
I started with exaid
I think zio, decade, revice shouldn’t be the first to watch, it should be the last because of showing and talking about past riders might be confusing, but to me I think fourze, den O, OOO and build are definitely the firsts to watch for me
Actually decade was my first rider dragon knight it actually give me a look at each rider world and characters
Anyone except Decade and Zi-o
Kuuga is the best way to started or w
Amazons Amazon riders it’s good or kiva
Nice opinions, too bad the right answer is Kuuga
I started from Decade, just cuz Decade basically sums up all the Heisei riders before him😂
Note: I watched the English adaptation of Ryuki twice before watching OOOs. Then only started from Decade, all the way to Ghost(unfinished).
You could start with any show except Agito.
That show confuses the shit outta me when i was a kid lol
No offense though
kamen ridern w
Seriously I only watch 5 episode of w decade let me watch drive
Don't start with Decade and Zi-O.
First.
