  • Join us for a travel day with stunning views of Taiwan as we take the bus and train to get from Kenting to Taitung. We hadn't heard of a train with ocean views before, but this one came with plenty. Today we leave Kenting, take the bus for Fangliao, where we head to Taiwan's beautiful east coast, where our first stop will be Taitung. The views from the train are especially beautiful with mountain views on one side and ocean views on the other side.
We will be staying in Taiwan for the coming weeks/months. If you want to discover what it is like to live as a foreigner in Taiwan, what daily life looks like (costs, apartment, etc.) as well as exploring some of the beauty Taiwan has to offer, then subscribe to our channel.

In Taiwan, when you see the bus coming, you need to raise your hand and wave to the driver to get on the bus. This is very important. If you were only standing at the bus stop and not waving to the bus driver, he would think that you don’t want to take the bus. This is weird but true, because many bus drivers pull over based on whether someone waves to him.

    • @cate9963
      @cate9963 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That is true. Bus drivers in Taiwan will only stop when they see a waving hand because not every passenger is taking the same bus (there are usually different number buses for the same bus stop). There is no direct train from Kenting to Taitung because there are not enough passengers to support it. (Most visitors to Kenting are from the west coast.)

    1. Please remember raising your hand and waving to the bus driver when buses are approaching, then the driver will know he/she must stop the bus for you.

It’s still quite positive that you are showing the real side of lives in this video. We are all humans and nothing wrong about having emotions. Videos on social media should not only have shown the bright cheerful and happy part as it’s not always the case in reality. There are of course ups and downs especially when you are backpacking under the pandemics filled with so many uncertainties. Please keep the spirits and travel safe especially. 💪🏻💪🏻

But think of the bright side, you are sooooooo~lucky can still travelling in this island, one of the most safe place in the world now, small but safe, and you can go anywhere you like.,enjoy the nature 、the food..still a lot to explore. and you are welcomed here. I've been following you since you two arrived in Taiwan--thanks to Wes DaviesTH-cam channel, and great to see you finally made it to Taitung. As a Taiwanese, the east is my favorite part of this island. Besides the beautiful scenery, if you take a close look, you'll surely find that some people here look a bit different from those in the western part of Taiwan. There are various aboriginal peoples in Taitung and Hualien like Paiwan, Rukai, Pyuma, Amis, Bunon, Amis, and so on. They have their own languages and cultures that are totally different from the ethnic Chinese's. Hope you find it and have wonderful experience of it.

That's so awesome you guys make it to Taitung!! I have to admit it. It is quite confusing to take bus while away from bigger cities in TW. Every time before I go back to Taiwan from New Zealand, I have to do some research and ask someone at the stop to double check to see if I take the right one! lol Became a tourist now in TW. Anyhow you guys are so adorable and positive although having a bad mood( I always blame the hot and humid weather). In east coast, it's much more convenient to rent a car, because it's quite hard to get a taxi when away from the city centre. Have a fabulous travel in east coast!! And safe travel too~~

Hi Kim, the train you took was at least 22 years old(oldest of the kind is 38 years old), and it's diesel. That's the last part of railroads in Taiwan that isn't electrified, so the trains there tend to be noisier. I think the government is working on electrifying the railroads there, so they haven't bought as much newer diesel trains that are quieter. Sorry about the bad train ride experience 😅 Hope the view makes you forget about the noise

    The bus is
inconvenient in somewhere, due to not many people take it, so the shift would very less or wait for a while.
One more thing, the engine of the train that your guys take is driven by diesel, called diesel multiple unit, so the sound is a little bit loud than electric locomotive.

Totally resonate with you for the part waiting for the bus. Especially under such humidity! Take a good night sleep and everything will be reset the next day. For sure!

You guys are just getting into the most remote part of coastal Taiwan. That is why it is so much fun. Much better than the west coast which really runs all together into one huge metropolis.
Regular buses, slow trains, not so easy but you need to enjoy that slower pace. That is like when I visited Taitung in 1975. The train stopped In Kaohsiung and it was all regular buses to Taitung, Hualian to Yilan. In Taitung then they had pedicabs not taxis. We took the freight boat from Taitung to Orchid Island about 8 hours and very rough seas. Orchid had no vehicles so we walked the 20 km around in the heat. Good way to lose some weight. And see no one except the prisoners (it was a jail Island then). Slow down and enjoy the east coast.
You could open a beef noodle restaurant in Belgium and make a lot of money. This dish is very easy as you have good beef. You charge Euro 10 per bowl. Lines will form.

Thanks for the great vid, so enjoyable following your adventures. Enjoy Taitung guys it's fantastic, don't let the travelling part get you down, as it's not the destination that makes the trip, but the journey there. Hey be careful swimming, there are some very powerful rips along the coastal beaches there, especially the surf beaches just north of Taitung.

In my opinion, the east coast of Taiwan is the most beautiful scene of Taiwan.
It's so glad to see you here to travel around Taiwan and had a good time.
It's hot, drink more water to avoid Heatstroke.
    Take care of yourselves!

Taiwan buses used to drive me nuts not stopping, especially when i was waiting for the last bus. Looking back it was a pain, but solving the problem just left positive memories, so don't beat yourself up if it isnt always 100% positive. It is a tiny issue in the grand scheme of life. Thanks for sharing
