The first maxcatch you reviewed I have had over a year and have probably tied close to 1000 flies with it. The only problem I had was the pin in the lever for the jaws bent and came out but it was a super easy fix. I’ve tied flies down to size 20 with no issue. I haven’t used a different vise to be able to say how good they are but I have for sure gotten my moneys worth out of mine.

I dont have any maxcatch products, but I think its great that everyone has a chance to get a foot into the sport...btw, love the classic heron-hackle fly :)

I had the first one you reviewed and mine broke three times, Maxcatch replaced them without question but when the third one broke I gave up and bought a Peak true rotary vice and never looked back. I’m not discrediting Maxcatch in any way, I love their rods but I roll out large numbers of flies tied on shanks, tubes, and big hooks both spey and salt so I needed something that I felt I could trust and Peak has been a stellar company, some of the best people work build their vices here in the USA. No more than $160 last I checked. Great vid

I like the Peak because of the massive pedestal base. I’m gonna get the base for my Maxcatch true rotary. Too in love with the jaws on the Maxcatch to switch. Thanks for your response!

Thank you for reviewing them. Not really looking for a vice, but I got a couple of their rods.

The second vice looked very much like a Renzetti traveler which is a really good vice . I have a couple of there rods and reels for spay fishing I purchased a year ago and they are a great product for a reasonable price . Unfortunately I already have one to many vices :-) Thanks for sharing.

I bought the green and silver model and I really like the jaw setup once I got used to adjusting. The problem i have is the rotating action is awful because the tolerance between the post Inside diameter and outside diameter is so sloppy it flops around. I just tied around fifteen different size ten midge types and it was not relaxing to say the least. I watched quite a few positive reviews before deciding to try this vise. Did I just get a one off Dog?

No, I’ve had the same issues. Not a true rotary. I ended up with their true rotary much better

Hey Tim! What do you think of their shooting heads? I'm pretty sure they manufacture for Rajeff sports in Vancouver . I'm new to spey casting and I found your videos very helpful thank you so much

The blue Skagit heads are decent if you chop a couple feet off the end. Thanks for watching!

Check out the true rotary Mayfly on eBay, $85. But at $50 for that first vise, Maxcatch has lowered the price point for rotary. That offset from shank to axis is not a problem imho.
    Bravo! Excellent vid, thank you!

I have a Mayfly and a Peak. The Peak is impressively rugged, and I use it when I travel to tie at a friend's place, but I prefer the Mayfly for the several dozen flies I tie at home.
