    Imagine the Democratic Party not helping the people! Not a shocker, platitudes without actions always around election time. They pass funding bills that mostly never seem to actually reach the people it’s supposed to support.

    This is exactly why our government shouldn't be wasting trillions of dollars on useless and endless wars abroad. This country has an urgent need of affordable housing.

    • @branchingoutnurseries4403
      @branchingoutnurseries4403 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      if its not affordable they will have to lower the price until someone can afford to buy it. you do realize there is a cost to building and the more the government regulations there are regarding who how and where to build is a main driver of those costs.

    • @rafaelmariscal9170
      @rafaelmariscal9170 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@branchingoutnurseries4403 absolutely, and it appears local governments have haf more control over housing inventories over time than states and the federal government. Just as an example, our city has increased the cost of building fees for a single family home from less than 10K in the early 90's to over 75K today and as a result have cut new construction by over 70% over the last 10 to 12 yrs. That 75K is a combination of the building permit cost, water and sewer connections, and other "development" fees. The city claims it's had to raise fees so much to at some point in the future replace aging infrastructure. The same applies to the development of buildable land. Prices have gone up 400% in the last 30yrs. Quite a lot more than incomes. Zoning and public works is another issue as well

      @@rafaelmariscal9170 We have to abolish corporate real estate speculation. These speculators are to blame for the homeless crisis. We should nationalize the housing stock. No one should be allowed to own a home unless they live in it!

      Any old time our government needs money it will print more, easy as that.
      And billionaires will funnel the bulk of it out of the country and hoard it in Swiss banks.
      That money is representative of value is a flexible concept.
      Government's money doesn't work like bank accounts do for states, cities, and people; currency is a popular way to reinforce social power hierarchies and justify imprisonment and removal of 'undesirables' (a.k.a. not valuable to the state or corporations) ; war is only another favorite scapegoat to blame for problems our elected leaders are too lazy to either fix or, if they did fix them, too lazy to come up with an explanation for.
      The U.S. is always at war somewhere but it may not be branded as war. And it's always been in civil war with itself, but it's so one sided we have to dehumanize and villanize the appearance of its victims to continue allowing it. So, don't.
      I don't.
      I won't.
      It's wrong. All of it.
      It's wrong.
      Stop it.

    The solution: Put these people in the abandoned housing in exchange for work. I’m sick of this narrative that poor people don’t want to work. They not only want to work, but they’re usually the hardest workers. Give them the dignity of shelter and let them work in exchange. That addresses multiple problems because, believe me, we need more people willing to do manual labor.

    • @gperson1967
      @gperson1967 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Everyone deserves a home in the richest country in the world regardless of their ability or desire to work.
      Rich people don't work, rich people own the news. And rich people project what they don't like about themselves onto the powerless, avoiding all sense of personal responsibility....a trait which they turn around and blame poor people for not having or using. They're just not very creative, these rich people. And so lazy.

      @Raffine Debauche There are more than 10 million available jobs in the US, so nobody that wants to work should be unemployed. Squatting is stealing, no matter how you slice it. If somebody insists on living in somebody else's property without permission, they should at the very least pay a reasonable monthly rent into an escrow account and this lady in the video should make it her job to locate the owner and pay them that rent. I've never seen a squatter NOT destroy a property & the owner shouldnt have to pay out of pocket to repair those damages. If the squatter won't work and won't pay, that makes them a lazy, thieving, undeserving squatter.

    • @RaffineDebauche
      @RaffineDebauche 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@einnAnnie That’s an overly simplistic assessment. Just because there are X number of jobs doesn’t mean they’re in the same area as the people that need them. I come from an area where the number of people wanting work FAR outnumbers the number of jobs available. And the majority of the people don’t have the resources to relocate to try and find work.
      And let’s go back to the housing market collapse. PLENTY of property owners were bailed out. So, for them to act indignant about someone else getting a leg up off of them is insane. If you’re going to apply that kind of standard, it needs to be applied consistently and across the board.

    • @RaffineDebauche
      @RaffineDebauche 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gperson1967 But we still need work done. Digging your heels in and insisting on homeless people getting free housing is NOT going to move the needle. So, I guess it comes down to a question of priorities. Which is more important to you: Putting a roof over someone’s head or insisting that it be free?

    • @lawsonj39
      @lawsonj39 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What about people who aren't able to do manual labor? Why would you assume the work has to be manual? And what's the rest of your plan? So these people have a roof: that doesn't mean they can put food on the table. Do they get paid for working these jobs you're imagining?

There is no abandoned homes in Seattle, because developers have already taken over housing. There affectively is no affordable homes in Seattle anymore. $600k-1+M. So you know who that is for. A house bought for $117k in 1994 now accessed at 1.1M. The house was built in 1907. $600k is for townhouses. Crime is out of control.

      These abandoned properties are for the most part homes that had FHA mortgages and for whatever reason went into foreclosure, after all the legalities they become what is known as a HUD home. The time line from start to finish varies on many circumstances. HUD homes are normally put back on the market through real estate brokers, when first put on the market they are available for owner/occupiers only, if they don't sell, the properties are then available to be bid on by investors. The point is that the FHA was responsible for paying off the mortgage and reselling the property is their way of recovering some, if not all, of their losses.

      Because rich people like feeling better than everyone else and the upper middle class has themselves convinced that they got where they are by earning it with all their hard work; thus anyone and everyone must suffer like they do or society will be ruined.
      And collectively these people comprise the bulk owners of media and collectors of wealth, consumers of products. Everyone else is human waste. Human garbage collectors are called cops, they're waiting around every corner to pick up the human waste to make money for the prison industrial complex. The waste humans are turned into slaves who work for pennies to get free of their cell for an hour.
      Do you get it?
      Everything about our country is built on shoving people who are down, back down further. Keeping people in their place is what we're all about, not free houses.
      Oftentimes, I'd rather not exist as it means having to humiliate myself and contribute to the exploitation of others in multitudes of ways. But I do because I must, we all must, in order for the vast lot of us to barely survive here.
