- Part 3 of a series on the best attachments for your compact tractor to maintain your gravel driveway. We first used a rear blade. Then a Land Plane, Now a box Scraper. All Attachments used are RK by King Kutter and the Tractors used are the RK 37 and The RK 55.

Love the box blade. You can do so much with it.
You can drag material, level, fill low spots, knock down high spots, lay materia down, and grade areas.
I recently put down a bout 60 tons of asphalt millings for my long driveway and parking area. The box blade and the front end loader made it a 1 day chore.
I did a little box blade work for my neighbor last night. It’s a very useful tool. If you have a tractor this and a bush hog as we call them in the south are must have implements!

I can see all the blades good for one certain job, but money wise the box blade can do it all. Thanks for taking the time to share.
Steve Bradley does the box blade need to be wider than your rear tires or just inside the rear tires? Does it make a difference?
Bruce Ingram Bruce I’m not a expert but anything that can cover your tire tracks is best. It all depends on the size of your tractor if it can handle a larger box blade. On a driveway it won’t matter.
I maintain right of way to 5 houses. The right of way is approximately 1/2 mile. I have been using a 6 ft grade bax behind a MF 1535 Hydro tractor. I recently added a hydraulic top link and wish that I had put it on years ago. It makes grading and distributing material so much easier. Thanks for the great videos Mike

Great video using the box blade. I have A 4701 Kubota. I own and operate a landscaping company, I use the box blade offer for grading and soil prep for Sod grass installation. I want to add the land plane next, but not sure if would use it.
Get a Harley Rake if you do landscaping.....unless you have one on a skid steer already (which would be preferred). But, if tractor is all you have, then get the Harley rake for it. Probably the #1 landscaping attachment.

Hi Mike. I think you and I should patent a small hydraulic vibrator for the box scraper. You can run with my idea. Just send me a check every month. :) I think a small vibrator would be great to clean out the box of debris after a long drag.
Look like it worked well and thats where a hydraulic top link would come in handy for that application..... And lack of a quick hitch for as much as you swap tools

I purchased a box blade with my B2601 last year. I have a 200 yard drive that has plenty of fresh packed traffic bond. It does develop pot holes from driving on it and puddles that form. I would like to see a video of you using a box blade on a drive way like that. Sort of a video on how to maintain your drive way with a box blade. Will you have something like that coming?

You need 3 attachments to maintain a driveway. Box blade, scrap blade, land plane. Scrape cuts and fills in low spots, scrape blade pulls stone from the sides back to the middle and the land plane smooths everything out
From what I see on the dates of these comments, I'm a late comer to this particular vid. But I'll throw my question out there anyway. Did you use draft control with any of the 3 implements featured in this series? Thanks for the feedback and keep the great vids coming.
Put a hydraulic top link on that tractor and you will be amazed at how well it works with a box blade and wonder how you ever got along without one.
You DON"T ever want to do that with a 6105D John Deere. The bottom of the hydraulic link won't clear between the bracket and on that tractor, the top link bracket is PART of the rear end housing. And I found out how it didn't when I raised the 3pt. up. I had the arms down as I was putting a quick hitch on at the same time. When I raised it up the bottom of the cylinder tried to wedge between the cast and broke it. Luckily for me, I had just bought both the tractor new and it was covered under warranty. But you are right, when they work, they work good.
It looks like you have a fairly decent driveway under all the grass; it just needed a little TLC. Will you need to replace the culvert under the driveway?

Mike - being that you have so many implements and are likely to have them on and off frequently, I'd suggest a Quick Hitch. Back up, lift and go - no more 3-pt adjustment every time.
When do you know when it's time to put more stone on your driveway?

Been needing to get one of these for my tractor. From what little time you've had with these attachments do you like them. I know they're labeled RK, but in an earlier video you said they were made by King Kutter. My local farm and home store has a 6ft King Kutter for about $750. I've got a Kubota L3800. Do you think the 6ft work fine with it or would it be too much blade? I think it would work fine, but I've never used one on mine.
I am a first time tractor owner, so sorry if this is a "dumb" question. I just don't want to get it then not be able to use it fully with my tractor.

Not a dumb question at all, a 6 footer would be a good match for your 3800, the attachments Im using are all made by King Kutter but branded RK by King Kutter

I hate to spoil this thread, but you're equipment rich and knowledge poor. ONE big 96" HD blade with oscillation will out perform everything you did and in half, or less the time.

Looks like that extra 20hp pulls that blade like a boss mike! I have been impressed with my L3901 using a box blade. I can imagine a 55hp rig!

I'll be making a parking area and installing a better driveway over my short older dirt n gravel driveway soon. I never heard of geotextile before... Very little tractor experience. I'd like to know more about geotextile, where to get it and how to use it

Mike, I'm NO expert (never used a tractor, or implements,) but I have a question? If you wanted to lay down geotextile material after removing a lot of the junk material from this driveway, (aside from demonstrating the unique capabilities of the box blade), why didn't you just use the "rear blade" and scrape off the junk onto the sides of the driveway? Just curious.
I know I'm late to this party, but, I just got a Back Blade for my tractor. I love it already. I made quick work of a messy gravel drive. I still want a box blade, but that's for after some other projects, like electric for the shop...
Nice video mike those RK tractors look good. Seems like you have found uses for all the sizes of those tractors. Keep the wood pile going and the great videos coming.

Mike, Great video series. Exactly what I was looking for. I'm looking to buy a scrape blade and box blade this spring to do some driveway work. Would love to see another follow up video on sizing for these implements and hear what your opinion is.

Hey Mike, thanks for the video. A suggestion I have for your videos is to separate some of the "vlog" type material from the "series" or "themed" type material. For example, the first 4 minutes of this video aren't related to box scrapers but are geared more toward your vlog community/demographic. I wanted to suggest this because you mentioned wanting to create a video archive for people who want to learn. Separating out unrelated content into different videos (or even different channels) seems like it helps create videos that are more timeless...someone coming to the video in a few months or years would probably want just box scraper content and not vlog content.
Just my two cents. Take it or leave it. Thanks again for the video and for the content.
Good lord. Do you heat the city with all that fire wood!!! I'm seriously considering driving up to RK to get one of these tractors. I want to look at an RK and a TYM side by side. I know they are basically the same but I want to see if there is any difference for the slight difference in price. Or is the RK pricing so low for introduction

On another note, I told you to ship all that excess gravel to Kapper.....now he's gone and gotten himself stuck in all that mud and had to make the call of shame to Mrs K to come pull him out. There is nothing worse than the smug tone from the Mrs in the middle of an "I told you so" moment....very unbecoming.....especially when you're knee deep in mud. What do we have to do to get Kapper some gravel !?!
