As a teacher, I think it's important that you have taken the Go player from square one and built layer by layer. You give the newbie a fighting chance to understand Go in a pretty quick manner. Without your mission and those of others, we could only throw out our Go boards, not fully understanding the game. There are lots of times where I "should" understand your thinking but with things getting more and more complex, I don't see it all. I suppose I need more support. But, you could also add more words about what you are thinking (on the elementary side) before you make your decision to play. I'm specifically talking about moves you make where you are looking at the big picture when some of us are not there yet. Thanks JHop for all the time you have given to Go newbies! Such an awesome mission you have. =)

Great lecture, thanks! Can you explain why the sequence at 3:30 is important enough to memorize?

This is called natural flow. It’s a very common situation.

Can anyone explain why at 14:49 black would not capture the white stone and gain a liberty at the same time?

Melaron Valkorith If black captures, D3 point is still weak, and the black stone just placed on E1 is basically useless on the edge of the board. By connecting instead, black makes a strong shape and the white stone is effectively dead, even if it’s still on the board.

@@user-fg5fs5ym6q I had the same question. What's whites follow up if black does capture? Suppose black goes e1, white goes d3, and black goes e2. Is this good for white? If it is I don't see why, the white stones on d3 and f3 seem weak to me. If white goes d4 or f4 to connect black will just do the opposite and cut?

Regards. How can I get a teaching board like that you use for your classes? Or what's the name of that board so that I can look for it on the web? Thanks. You are a very good teacher I have learnt a lot from your videos.
