    About the time I decided to get a Lionel Command system. The base 3 was announced. The cab 2 aftermarket went crazy. So I have been patiently waiting for the base 3 release. I have some command locomotives that have been waiting also. So I’m excited. Not sure if I will want a cab one remote until I try it. Looks like getting started is going to be easier than I thought after watching this. Thanks for making this video.

      I am in the same boat. When I thought MTH was closing I pivoted to Legacy only to get hosed (unable to buy a Legacy system). I've had a spot where my transformers are set aside for a Base2/Base3 with an LCS cable linked up to my TIU ready to go for what feels like 2 years. Although, I hear if you want a TIU it is not much better in terms of availability!

      Both the new Base 3 and WTIU will be out this year so wait is almost over!

    Great to here about Lionel Base 3. I just have MTH DCS. I didn't get into model trains until 2020 when I retired. So I have just a few Lionel diesel engines. I run with with their app on a I pad. I did buy 2 Lionel Legacy steam engines and the blue tooth is horrible with them because they are diecast I think. Keep disconnecting. Really need this base 3. Look forward to seeing your review of this when it comes out.

    Sean, I have recently found your channel as I am making the move to O scale after years of being involved with HO. You are teaching me a lot. I was wondering where the Cab 3 manual could be obtained as I can not find it online. Thanks for all you do!

      Here is a link to the site Lionel made for the control systems. The pdf manual is not there but all the same info is there and more! control.lionel.com/

      @@seanstraindepot Got it..Thanks so much Sean...I seem to have made the switch at an odd time. I'm used having DCC in HO, so having to wait on the Cab 3 and or the new MTH system is disappointing but I'm making do for now with Bluetooth control on my 3 Lionel locos...

    Excellent video Sean. Very informative. One question I do have though, when the Base 3 is purchased, people who don’t have the ZW-L won’t they still need to purchase either a Legacy Powermaster or Legacy Powermaster 360 to send power to the track? And if you do have to purchase one of those Powermasters, then you should be able to control Conventional locomotives if you so wish to do so.

    • @seanstraindepot

      That is true. I use my ZW-L for any conventional. So yes.

    Hi Sean, I just preordered the Cab 3 base. I will be using the Lionel app to control my Lionel trains. I also would like to add DCS to run my MTH locomotives. What exactly do I need to order? I’ve always ran my trains conventionally. What do I need to order to run my MTH locos with the Cab 3 base? Sorry for all of the questions. Frank

    Sean?! Kind of off topic, but do you have a recommendation for painting cars/locomotives? I have a Conrail OCS set, two E-8s and would like to add a B unit with the same paint scheme. I also found decals on ebay that would make it match. Just wondering what you would recommend or think about painting a B unit to match.

      Haven't gotten into painting, yet. Someday I will as I have some ideas for some projects.

    Wish they wouldve introduced a way to connect the universal remote to control any locomotive from the universal remote.

    • @seanstraindepot

      The universal remote only has 3 channels. You can get a CAB1-L remote if you want simpler operation that works with the Base 3 and be all set for anything you add in the future.

    • @BigWhiskey91

      @@seanstraindepot For sure, im using TMCC with the Cab1 now. I just meant that it would wise to introduce a way to use the universal remote through the base3. I understand it has three channels but they could expose an endpoint on the base3 for it to connect to and then relay the commands through the base3 out to the track.
      Sure the functionality would be limited but if you just need to set speeds and play sounds every now and then, its a great way to add product synergy.

      You know what, that guide I reviewed was just the intro guide and Dave said in his video there will be a lot more detail to go over, so I wouldn't count that out yet. I mean it will have a Bluetooth receiver in it. So, we may find what you want is possible. Won't know until it gets here!

    Not for me I am WAY to new in this hobby to understand all this program this and that. What happen to put the train on the track and go? Need to be an engineer to make sense of it all. But very nice lay out.

  • @daivdwalker2374

    I'm leaving conventional behind and going with the base 3 so my other question lol is why does a person need all those modules? What do they do? And you have 2 have them?

    • @seanstraindepot

      Are you talking about the LCS modules? They control other parts of your layout all through the remote. Track switches, operating accessories, lighting, Track Power Blocks, plus the Sensor tracks that trigger actions when the engines run over them.

  • @daivdwalker2374

    The new Cab1 L remote can you run multiple engines at once? And with the new app can you run multiple engines?

  • @daivdwalker2374

    And how about the new cab1 L remote can you still quill the whistle? Does it have the quillable whistle my 81 yr father has trouble with his simple phone so I want 2 get the Cab1 L remote 4 him

    • @seanstraindepot

      This one is a little more complicated. By default, the CAB1-L does not quill because the signal it uses for whistle is backward compatible to TMCC whistles. But there are a few settings you can change on the remote to change it to use the Legacy whistle signal for quill. But it has to be changed for each Legacy engine you have and then it stores that setting in the remote. The reason you have to do it per engine is that older TMCC whistles would stop working if you did it as an overall setting on the remote. This way both TMCC and Legacy whistles will work. So, with a little setup, yes.

    So I ordered a base 3, what do I need to connect it to an LCS system when Lionel no longer stocks the 6-81499 power supply?

    • @seanstraindepot

      You don't need any external PS anymore. There are 3 built in PDI ports you will connect any LCS module chains too. All powered. Just plug in your LCS module chain in any of the 3 ports. Each port can handle up to 10 LCS modules for a total of 30.

    • @seanstraindepot

      There is no cost, it is just built into the base and if you select that it will appear as an additional network to connect to in your mobile device.
