Mike a little over a year ago I started my dream to start farming and I got struck by lightning no joke it took a year to get back to normal and I am happy to say I am back in the cab of a tractor haying next year hope to have cattle again you and welkers millennial farmer and Larson farm helped me stay hopeful and as upbeat as I could be I am in hopes to have a old tractor to start rebuilding to keep up with my growing farm dreams you may not know it you all provided me with hope when I had nothing to look forward to

Good luck finding a good tire..we had to replace one on our 100-125hp on ours a fuw months ago and it took 3 weeks to get it Then it was the wrong one..then we couldn't find but one boot anywhere n it got messed up ..6-8weeks later we bade our own boot & finally got a tube in it to finish picking corn..lol. it was a train wreck for sure ! But Good Luck any ways !

Impressed with your wheel changing skills of that size, alone, and in that heat!! Don't overdo it mate, I am reaping the rewards of crazy jobs when younger, but now in my older years....
Don't include the cost of the tyre in your hay overheads; it could have failed any time, and should just be a general machinery maintenance expense. Stick with your 20 bucks per bale....you're not cheating, just keeping the books straight!
Great vid Mike, thanks as always.

It amazing to me that your hay is that dry. Here in Southeastern Ohio we have a very different climate. Sometimes we can cut one afternoon and rake the next day. We can never bale before noon. To much dew on the ground. And our hay runs around 16-18% even in a dry year. Guess the Ohio River account for the humid climate here.

Thank goodness you have some hay, and it sounds like your going to get close to what you need. I'm in the same boat, lost a little this year do to the high price of fertilizer, so we're a little short. Just finished today with all the hay and we're in dry conditions. We have gotten only a little over a half an inch in about 5 weeks and with the temps being in the mid 90's to 101 we're getting pretty dry. Good luck on the rest of your haying, hope it goes well, have a great evening and a great Friday and weekend.

  • @jeffjablonsky2371
    @jeffjablonsky2371 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Congratulations Mike on the haying sucess. Very nice to see the number of bales you're able to get with all the drought issues in your area. As far as breakdowns, all that has to be expected from time to time, especially since some of that equipment has not been used in the last 3 years. The $600.00 for the tire, that has to be prorated over the next 15 years of operating (or however long you expect a tire to last) to accurately figure out how much it will cost to hay yourself vs how much you spend to purchase it. The cost to purchase will continue to go up, and although some of your costs may also go up, i believe it will be much more beneficial to produce your own hay. Keep up the great work and always stay safe. Blessings to all of you on the ranch.

Will the 6420 have a problem with the new tire being bigger round than the right side? Strain in the drivetrain.
100 years ago when I was bustin' tires for Goodyear, we were taught "AWD and 4X4, always replace tires in pairs to avoid repairs." What says Deere?
Good luck with the rest of Hay 2022. Thanks for sharing, Mike -EZ

Tractor have proper differentials front and rear, not a speed sensing electronic clutch, so can cope with different wheel speeds.
Also, off road, the compliance of the tire wall and topsoil make driveline stresses.much lower.
In short, on tarmac with low profile rubber, there's there's lot less forgiveness in the system.

I just love the range of skill you have. So versatile.
Haying seems to be going well. Do you now run the cattle on the hay fields to put some fertilizer into them?
Can you sow better grasses for future hay production? Are there ways to improve your hay meadows?

I'd say the extra fuel cost for running the A/C probably adds more to the cost of a bale than does that new tyre.

Keep them old tractors and take care of them like you have. New ones are loaded with electronics and you have to call the dealer all the time to fix them

If y’all could get a few of those scattered thunderstorms it would help that field to recoup for the cows.

Wow! I know by watching your VLOGS you're a "hard worker". I truly wish you would do a "buddy system" when changing a tire like that. Don't want to see anything happen to any individual while trying to survive Farming/Ranching- Stay safe you guys!!!!
