    I don’t get how this drama isn’t more popular than it is. It’s easily one of the best I’ve ever watched. Everything is so realistic and there was never a scene where I cringed. It’s really romantic too!!! I want to forget it just so I can watch it again. I hope more people get to see this drama

      @@roellegaspicoolchannel7779 lol, which drama are you talking about? First of all, both main leads are excellent actors. They have fantastic chemistry, right from the bat. From the first time they meet, behind the drinking place and then the second time at the bus stop, it is immediately apparent how compatible they are even though they are totally different absolute strangers. How she feels trust to him to talk about her feelings and how much respect he shows towards her - how patiently he listens, how he never judges her, how softly he speaks to her and looks at her, and how nice he is to her - the things he does not do with other people.
      Yes, it's not that childish "cute puppy-face boy likes clueless pretty girl, so he grabs her wrist and gives her lovey looks, she's smitten and we're there folks!" annoying type of chemistry. This is the adult version - the attraction of two matured and scarred souls which unavoidably pulls them together, no matter how much they resist or what they go through, then slowly, unconsciously but inevitably changes both of them over time, until they realize they fell in deep love with each other. That's how lasting relationships and true love work in real life.
      Visual attraction is one thing, but attraction and respect of two compatible souls is whole another level, that's why chemistry between LMK and JSM feels so authentic.

    It is rare to have the male lead talking about mortgage, retirement, and death so matter of factly. Min Ki is born to play this role. I can’t think of any other male actor who can pull off playing a thinker so convincingly. He may look and sound like a PC but he’s expressed a lot in his eyes, tiny facial expression changes, and subtle body language differential. He played it straight, not a caricature, to great comedic effect.

      He sounded like a PC or robot because his character needs to be emotionless brought by previous heartache that's why Jung So Min has a dialogue that states something like she doesn't know how to react to Lee Min Ki as he doesn't show & tell how he really feels.

    • @riaconradt2554
      @riaconradt2554 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Yep. Lee Min-ki played this role perfectly. And the micro-expressions he had, especially in the scene where he was making the kimchi and he saw her arrive, were so priceless! His seemingly emotionlessness throughout the series made the scenes where he was crying more painful to the viewer. I read a comment that this was the best marriage contract K-drama but I think this might be one of the best K-dramas. Period.

    This K-drama was a TOTAL pleasant surprise to me. I normally abhor romantic dramas, and let's face it, Korean romantic dramas are (in)famous for their sappiness, over-dramatization, and cartoonish exaggeration. I watched "Because This Is My First Life" because I ran out of things to watch during the Covid lockdown. It was at the bottom of my "to-watch" list. I also didn't the synopsis, thinking that it would turn out as silly as the plot appeared to be. However, I was COMPLETELY wrong about "Because This Is My First Life." It turned out to be a highly sophisticated drama, with realistic and interesting characters, including the main ones and the supporting ones, and several parallel stories taking place at the same time (played out by the supporting cast). All the characters are flawed but likeable. There were a few extremely touching moments that even for someone like me who has never cried watching a romantic drama, I confess I was a little teary-eyed (e.g. the letter the bride's mother wrote to her son-in-law-to be). "Because This Is My First Life" represents the best of the best of any romantic dramas, Korean or non-Western. In my opinion, "Because This Is My First Life" has set a new standard for what romantic dramas should look like and should aspire to. You need to watch it even if you are, like me, not into romantic dramas. You won't regret it.

    I will just join the cause and recommend this Korean drama. Acting from the main couple is simply outstanding, I have never seen better actors in a romantic movie or drama, ever.
    Jung So-Min as the main female character is so believably expressive with her feelings - when she is happy, you feel she is happy. When she feels hurt, you feel it too. And I have never seen any actress before to display her love more genuinely, especially in the most romantic scenes. They way she looks at her partner, the way she talks to him... Pure bliss.
    Lee Min-ki as the main male character, on the other hand, has much less space he can use to express himself as the personality he portrays is a very emotionally closed man. In his case, it took me several re-watches of his scenes where I finally looked away from the subtitles and actually paid attention to his face expressions, to his eyes, to his subtle body movements. When he is surprised, you can see it in his eyes. When he gets worried or hurt, his face usually stays the same but you can see like the look in his eyes changes (unsurprisingly, where I come from we call eyes "windows to person's soul").
    The pace is rather slow however I totally love it. What I hate about especially US series is that the dialogues are so fast paced. It feels like everyone is racing to fill the time slot, spitting out sentences like a machine gun. Here, the dialogues have very natural pacing, like when two adult people talk together in real life, taking a bit of time to think about what they are going to say. It also leaves enough time to let the narratives sink in.
    And what the characters say, especially the two main one, is particularly important. They often quote poets, writers, and philosophers. And they teach us, well as least they taught me, several important lessons about life and life priorities.
    This drama had two types of impact on me - positive, as I loved watching this drama (and I keep re-watching it, focusing on various details), and negative as it made it extremely hard for me to watch other series. I have not been able to move on for more than a month now :).

    • @CoolnCarin5241
      @CoolnCarin5241 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Just to add to this - I really loved each character and how each had an impact on me and the cahracter dvelopment was amazing, nothing rushed. Each character got at least 2-3 episodes to elaborate their story, like the Se-Hee's boss Ma Sang-Goo goes out with Soo-Ji (Ji-Ho's friend )and teh complications they face in their relationship or Ho-Rang(annoying girl) with Won-Seok, how they live together for 7 years but the boy wnats to make it big before he posposes to her but the girl wants to marry him immiediately, just the kind of problems a typcial person would face.
      Specially the reference of "Room 19" was an eye opener to me, where a women needs her space, which todays society rarely gives to her, specailly in asian society, where almost everything is decided for her, from life before marriage to who and where your going to marry, after marriage too you have to look after your husbands family and cook and clean and be obedient.
      This drama really had ahuge impact on me, sicne after watching Goblin, i was awe struck and stuck in teh world of fantasy but the ground reality, which brought me to my senses was this drama, that your life, your world is surrounded by your loved ones and friends. The lifre you live with them, each ahs achapter on its own. Whenever I look into one my friends and fanily's eyes, I see each of them living a hard life, some more than other, having their own trials and tribulation, whether work related or family or even in social life in general.

    I started watching kdramas lately and was always looking out for the next best thing which could replace Hometown Chachacha's place in my heart. I was deciding between watching this and Master's Son but ended up watching DodoSolsolLalaSol while also considering When the Weather is Fine.
    I just watched this out of whim and oh boy, was I blown away by that scene on first episode on the bus stop before the kiss! All my introverted, melodrmatic, introspective cells were awakened. Episode 11, making kimchi with family was very special and that unexpected real kiss after reciting that poem!
    And personally, that wedding letter from the bride's mother was so relatable. What respectable parents truly feel and fear when their child gets married. And also what the child feels when pressured to become successful at school and dating and marriage. Can resonate with everyone to be honest!
    I have watched many kdramas and in a long time I have not felt butterflies when the leads are in one frame. I know this will be in my top five because only at episode 11 have I checked which episode Im at because I was so entralled by the characters and felt sad of the thought of this contemplative realistic, slice of life feast about dreams, career, family, expectations, friendships, love, marriage and healing coming to an end.
    A beautiful portrayal of the modern dilemmas of the young and adults-alike's journey amidst love and life for the first time.
    My comform kdrama and a definite rewatch!

    This drama was perfect! The plot, pace, and progress of every episode - i never get bored nor slow to me. The acting? Excellent of course. LMK is the perfect actor for this character. JSM is also great at portraying as ji ho. I also like the stories of her bff. Tbh, i want horang to be with the new guy, cuz watching her with seok really frustrates me, but in the end "Heart isn't something you can work for. It just comes" ♥️
    I love jiho and sehee mindset on prioritizing their love as shown in the last episode. There's a lot of great dialogue, that i forgot to take note. So i need to rewatch again hehhe. Ahh how i wish i could have a relationship like them. 🥺

    I keep re-watching this drama Because this is my first life. This is really a great korean drama of all time. This depicts the reality of life. There are so many lessons to learn here. When life's struggles are so real, it's better to enter into a contract marriage rather than committing sins just to survive. This is just one of the so many lessons I got from this drama. This is a highly recommended drama. The imagination of the writer is great. I really like the storyline and the characters especially the lead actors #JungSoMin and LeeMinKi. They did their role so well. I just don't know why this drama is so underrated in their own country. Maybe because koreans are so busy and don't know how to appreciate ART. Drama is the product of the artistic imagination of the writer. A good heart is appreciative. If you don't know to appreciate things, please check your heart if it's not full of ill feelings.

      @@raime3488 Honestly, I don't care about any other lead couple ever to be together again, but them. They are both fantastic actors. They had special chemistry in the series as well as behind the scenes. There was this mix of mutual respect, admiration , affection and shyness. Like LMK, a movie and drama veteran, absolutely blushing and struggling in the relatively simple kiss scene :). Or JSM kissing LMK gently before director says "action". Or LMK subconsciously stroking JSM's hair. Or JSM keeping her eyes closed for a bit after their kiss scene was over (director said cut but she was like ^_^ ) :D.
