Great video Lloyd. One tip I religiously abide by however. Release the firing pins on both barrels prior to cleaning the inside of the receiver. This will (mostly) prevent gunk & whatever else from being pushed inside the holes, and 1)...possibly cause light strikes (down the line) from clogged firing pin channels, and 2)...unwanted crap being pushed even further into the action itself, especially when being blasted by a high pressure spray can. BTW......the reaction of the young mate at time marker 27:52 was hysterical !
Thank you.
I agree with many here: use a soft/very soft toothbrush , or dedicated gun brushes in many places, they work wonders. I do have a caveat here, though: Do NOT use the same cloth to do your final wipedown on your exterior action/ barrels as you do to wipe up/ clean dirt/ grit/ grunge from inside the gun's action area. All it takes is 1 speck of silica grit, or a small metal filing to truly bugger up your barrel blueing. Always use a clean, freshly oiled cloth.
Merry Christmas!
I'm pleased to say that I clean my gun using the same kit, including the cotton buds for applying grease. I use my childs old toothbrush to get in and around the block and Scotchbrite to clean the mating faces, it's less abrasive than wet'n'dry. Great video with some good points too. Thanks Lloyd and Co.!
Old toothbrush is a good idea. Used to use on on my auto, when I had an auto..
By far the best gun cleaning tutorial I've watched, I shoot a Guirini and as you say the the chambers are the the hardest to clean, I might invest in a magic bore after a bit of research. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks man.
I've found either paper towel from ths kitchen or work shop paper towel pushed through the barrel is the best way. Generally I simply scrunch it up into the barrel then push through. Ffs make sure you check barrels are clear of any obstruction when done. Try it and see how much crap comes out on the paper.
Hi Lloyd, I,m very particular about cleaning my gun as well, great review, realised I am doing it right!, just a little tip which may help some people - when I clean the ventilated rib and under the top rib I use wood pigeon feathers coated with a small amount of gun oil, gets in everywhere, just a thought.
I just use a pipe cleaner. 🤷♂️
Great video, it's helped me as a new shotgunner, thanks guys.
Thanks man :)
Really good video Lloyd, really informative. Only thing I would like to have seen is how you guys would clean the chokes and, in particular, the threads inside the barrels. Would you use the Payne-Galway? I’m always concerned about a rogue fibre getting wedged in the threads causing the chokes to stick!
I use 10w-40 engine oil. I know that's going to get some hate but if it endures the stress of my car engine, it's more than fine for my gun
Mashed440 no hate from me, just admiration for your brass tacs no B.S. approach! May I be as bold as to suggest using the old classic car Castrol for that proper classic smell, perfect!
your engine have oil pump.... grease is supposed to "stay there"
I’m new to your channel, but I enjoy your content mate very informative for beginners like myself.
Thank you 👍🏻
Thanks man, good to hear it ;)
Thank you. Another fantastic video Lloyd, and sorry I kept asking.
Thanks Matt.
Excellent tutorial video, many thanks 👍
My pleasure.
Great video and thank you both.
Thank you.
just ordered a paradox, cheers
Great information Lloyd in fact all you videos are informative and great to watch.
I have a dt10 with external chokes do I remove these before cleaning the barrel’s
Not every time, but whip them out and clean and re lube them every so often.
Great vid guys, although I have my doubts about the electric drill 🥺
You would be surprised, it's an excellent tool. effectively it's a sturdy Phosphor Bronze brush with an integrated mop. Works a charm.
Thank you, gentlemen. I will be more attentive to muck buildup in the chamber/forcing cone areas from now on. Cheers!
Proper maintenance is essential :)
What rods and gun clean kit do you use, most won’t let you go through the barrels as they have a handle or wide end that won’t pass, and what jag did you use? Cheers
I use a 2 piece aluminium rod that I have glued together so it's a 1 piece. I dont use a jag as they are utterly useless, I use 2x4 on an old retired payne gallway brush.
Thank you for such a comprehensive video. I'd like to ask you, can we spray a barrel from outside with oil that we use for bore cleaning, for removing led? Will not it harm bluing of the shotgun, as it contains base? I use Ballistol gun oil, it is "CLP" one.
I use Phillips but only ever on the inside, I dont imagine it would harm the bluing but never needed to use it on the outside of the barrels.
A couple of points to note regarding Magic Bore kits. Firstly with the drill kit please DO NOT use any oil or solvent with it it doesn't need it and works much better and quicker without it. The Drill should only be used on it's slowest speed and in forward motion only. For the ultimate time saving complete clean without getting dirty team it up with the hand kit and do all that is shown in the video in about 2 minutes. A Paradox after a drill kit is counter productive use the handkit.
Have both the drill kit and the hand kit and have been using them for a few months now. Both absolutely brilliant and made cleaning so much easier and more thorough. Best thing is if I go shooting for a weekend away and I can shove the hand kit in the boot with a small can of cleaning, a small pack of patches and a cloth and know I can keep the gun clean without much effort
Thanks for an informative video. I always enjoy your content.
One question, what is "wet and dry"? It's mentioned at 22:03
Google 10,000 grit wet and dry. It’s very very very fine sandpaper used wet. To be used extremely sparingly.
Anyway you could list where to find some of these products?
Just google the stuff, it's pretty common, and it will obviously depend on the country hence there was no point in me listing specific places that likely wont ship international.
Is there any lead fouling in the barrel if all the shot stays in the shot cup on modern day shot shells? Aren't we really just cleaning burnt plastic and powder out of the barrels?
Unless you are using fibre wads. Which many do in the UK.
Very thorough thank you.
Thank you.
What oil would you use on the stock ? I’m wondering what type of oil to use for maintaining the wood on various O/U’s. Say Browning, Rizzini, Beretta, etc oil finished guns. Also what about Fabarm Tri-Wood.
I use Boiled Linseed oil and Crystal Wax.
I use silicone oil
Why do Perazzi not recommend using a brush in some guns and how do you clean without one?
Never heard of that.
@@lloydyp from the horses mouth.
Yes is better to do not use metallic brush for the barrel !! the suggestion anywhere is to clean well the chamber to avoid the ammunition residual on it ( plastic ammunition )
To remove the stock is necessary the long screw driver ! nothing special ( of course for the original Perazzi stocks )
We remain with
Best regards
It was a discussion regarding am MX4 so maybe concern about earlier barrels?
But I thought bronze brush is softer than steel so no way it can damage it.
Hi Lloyd. Great video. Where can I find the little attachment you have on 1:42.
That's an O-Ring Jag and rod from Brownells, I had to buy an American rod to go with it as the thread pitch and size are different.
I would add a few items I find helpful: A Wife’s old yoga mat, cheap tooth brushes, and compressed air. Enjoy your videos.
Thanks Matt. 👍
Great video. What is the name of the clear grease you used?
ProNatur PTFE Engineering Grease.
Could you add a list of chemicals and items?
I think we mention them all in the video but off the top of my head it's Legia Spray, Phillips Bore solvent, and Pronatur PTFE Engineering grease.
5 gallon bucket works good for catch basin
good shout.
hi lioyd am same as you the gun gets cleaned every time i use it one shot or 100 shots its cleaned
Thanks for watching man.
How do you clean the ports in a ported Browning barrel?
Never owned a gun with a ported barrel but I imagine a pipe cleaner would be ideal.
Where did you get those thick bore cleaning rods?
Pretty much standard in the UK man.
What grit wet and dry would you use?
I tend to use either 0000 Steel wool or 2000 / 3000 grit wet & dry. Steel wool lasts well and is super cheap for the amount you will be using.
thanks
My gun is 40 years old, still as good as new and only had WD40 on it.
Congratulations.
5 gallon buckets work great here in the States....lol
20 litre bucket here :P
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CLEANING ANY GUNS OUTDOORS, YOU DON'T WANT TO BE INHAILING ALL THOSE FUMES. IT'S REALLY HARMFUL!!
Unless it's raining. Or Dark. Be realistic, and please don't shout.
@@lloydyp THANKS LOYD, I have a habit of typing in high caps, Because it makes her more legible!!😉😂👌👍. Naturally if it's pouring rain I see your point, but I was just talking about during normal weather Conditions, cheers as the English say. I am still in love with your Perazzi shotgun wood!💙🤷♂️
Not bad! Turns out I prob over grease my gun to the shithouse! All good!
excess grease squirts out dont worry about it.
heres a tip, skip the gun branded grease and just buy automotive lithium bearing grease. I last paid $4 for a huge tube 10 years ago and haven't scratched the surface. by contrast i also have blaser choke tube lithium grease which costs $30 for a tiny tube and I'm almost 100% is exactly the same stuff.
