looks very cool but I was always scared of those 2k laquer varnishes, I heard they are very aggressive and hard to work with. Is there a spray can alternative?

It is an acrylic paint. You can use their acrylic thinners, although I assume you could also thin it with lacquer thinners if you wish to do so.
