This is going to sound weird but I can “smell” this video. Reminds me of playing with my grandma’s things when I was little! So for me, it’s like a combination of antique store smell and the perfume she used to wear.
I learned from a class that the packaging for chocolate used to be so elaborate because these sorts of things were marketed as a gift men could present to their beaus. I think there were other angles as well, but I can’t remember all of them.
I love this!! But nearly all of these items pre-date the 1940s; Ragtime chocolates was named for Ragtime music which peaked between 1890-1910. Many other objects are from the 1920s. I still love the video but it’s definitely not giving 40s vibes lol.

The problem with everything today is that it’s not beautiful anymore. Everything is made specifically to be discarded. And thus we don’t get things like this anymore. So sad.

I wonder if those ingredients are more natural/simple/better than today’s makeup or the exact opposite. Just since everything these days seems loaded with stuff that isn’t always good/chemicals.

If I’m not mistaken those purses like the one at 5:13 were called “minaudière”. They can be so mesmerising and intricate, very much like jewellery. I have one that belonged to my great-grandmother also in gold colour and mother of pearl. It’s so small but so cleverly designed too. Opens up on both sides, on one there’s a mirror and powder and a puff, and on the other side it’s a cigarette case, plus on the hinge there is a lipstick tube. I’d love to collect them, they’re all so unique 😁 PS: that round feature with a spring is for holding coins so they don’t rattle inside the purse, the other compartment I don’t know, I wonder if maybe it had a thin cigarette lighter or a pill box or something. I love mysteries XD
