    I can see the advantage to the diamond coated brush, but the real question durability. The fragility of diamond plating may make it impracticable, especially for most applications. It is an interesting option though.

      @@GroberWeisenstein Yes, fragility. I have worked a lot with diamond plated abrasives. The only way I can describe them is fragile, as the nickle plating holding the diamond grit can be subject to cracking and flaking. Taking in to consideration the flexing of the wires in the wheel gives me consideration of their durability. ✌

    Thanks for sharing us this tool! I personally think the price is really high for something like this. Probably this isn't the only kind of application for this brush but in this case I prefer the CSD grinding discs (I hope that's the correct name in the english speaking countries). They work quick, are inexpensive and safe the actual material.

    You can clean ferrite off a wire brush using a soak in Citric acid or just buy Iron Out at the Borg.
    I've been looking at the Diamond wheels. At $300 I had a lot of questions - especially how long they will last.
    In the meantime I found Pferd They have disks that literally eat steel for lunch. And they last forever.
    So please do post an update after you have been using the Diamond brush for a year.

    You could buy coldrolled steel. That stuff usually has no millscale whatsoever, also the tolerances are tighter, its worth the tiny bit more price because often enough you just take it, cut it to lenght, deburr and thats it... If you have a surface Grinder or Mill throw it on there with some old big gnarly face cutter or wheel and give it a spin. Even a belt sander works wonders on that or the pneumatic scale removers you have for welding... If you really wanna use an angle grinder with 300$ wirewheel (ever had one of those or more wires sticking in your arm or else?!) Then go for it. Im not saying its per se bad im just giving ideas how to avoid it. Cuz there are better options for most people.
    I prefer to buy coldcrolled or premachined material. Its a bit more expensive to buy but it saves A LOT of hassle. Aka your time and money. And nerves.
    Peace!

      The ones shown is when you need it done NOW, Hydrocloric Acid is when you need it Today. 12% vinegar is when you can wait 24h.
      I got a smaller bucked of Hydrocloric for small parts i want cleaned within the hour, but usually i put my stuff in vinegar. Its ALOT cheaper and wont burn you or anything about the shop.
      Recently built a welding table out of 90/90 H-beams and a 20mm thick plate. All of the got to soak in vinegar for about 2 days, then i just preassure washed and rubbed some wd40 on it. couldnt be cleaner and no grinding marks, pretty much ready for polish.

  • @dawabbitt3079
    @dawabbitt3079 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a respectful alternative - You can simply soak heavily mill-scaled parts in Cleaning Vinegar, which costs about 4 bucks / gallon at Walmart.
    The difference between cleaning vinegar and white vinegar is that cleaning vinegar consists of 6% acetic acid, while the white vinegar has an acidity of 5%... This 1% difference is huge in acid intensity, making cleaning vinegar 20% stronger than white vinegar.
    Soaked for about 4 hrs., a lot of that mill scale simply wipes off with a rag. The vinegar residue left on the part(s) can then be neutralized in a mixture of baking soda and water.

    So here's a weird one, apparently diamond tools don't work very well on steel because steel dissolves the diamonds. This makes me think that you're going to be going through that $300 wire brush relatively quickly if you're using it to get rid of Mill scale.
    I don't know the chemistry but this is something I learned from a very experienced Machinist. Also, how would you rate the diamond wire versus a soak in vinegar?

    • @MakeEverything
      @MakeEverything  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure about the diamond vs steel thing, I know a lot of thought went into making these diamond wheels so I’d doubt there’s evidence to say it’s counterproductive. While they are expensive for the end user, I’m sure they are expensive to manufacture. With the vinegar option, I’m sure it’s cheaper overall, but not every part can be soaked in vinegar, in my world, most parts are too big or cumbersome to be left in a vinegar bath to soak…
