They were hands down my absolute FAVORITE AFRO-ROCK BAND. The year was 1989 and today is 2020 with Corey Glover's vocals and the band of fierce guitarist and percussionist: this Afro-Infusion band is going to live forever because they are able to sing, musically play, and perform any standard of music without any help from today's technology. These Brothers were fierce back then and they still are today. I LOVE THEM!!!!
I watched the Arsenio Hall show RELIGIOUSLY when I was young, every show... they had music and culture I was into, his band was great, as a bass player just starting out it was inspiring... the late 80's into the 90's it seemed like maybe we had solved all our problems, and we were going to move into a better place, at least that was the hope. now I am old, and the world just seems fucked up and has seemed that way for a long time now.... wish I could go back to those days, struggling to make ends meet, no a/c in the hot Texas summer but we didnt care, our bands played on the weekend and we just lived life
These are all intelligent and very insightful young men. Living Colour really is more important than the credit they actually receive. Ahead of their time. And the music is awesome to boot.
@king kong I'm in my late 30s I was a very young girl maybe 10 back then, but I remember them vividly especially because they were so unique. I agree 💯 with you the whole industry is met to distract, brain wash, and control people's perceptions. But I'm guilty in that I've been under that control the only way to be free is to continue down the path of truth to be loosened from those shackles. Why did u name yourself King Kong obviously thats from the movies and old entertainment.
3:27 "black people, gay people, women are not objects to be labeled and to be talked about any which way, We're people with feelings" Thank you, Vernon Reid. Still listening to Living Color 2024.
I remember when I was first introduced to LC (as most of us were): MTV, 1988 "Cult of Personality". I was blown away. Honestly, "Open Letter (To a Landlord)" was the song that really got me. It was heavy but it had something to say. Love these guys: excellent musicians and hyper-talented (Will Calhoun has always been one of many of my favorite drummers).
They’re all present such a solid conviction 💜 I love how Vernon speaks on equality not just for black people but also women and gay people. I love how they clown arsenio too lol
Musically these cats covered so much ground " 😅 WHEW 😅 ,and the dripping musicianship is deep beyond categories,COREY, VERNON,MUZZ, and Will are like the rock, funk, jazz ,RAnd B, equivalent of PARLIAMENT Funkadelic,E.W.F.,the Bar Kay's,Miles Davis (2) great quintets of the 50s and 60s,Jimi Hendrix band of Gypsies,Chuck Berry,James Brown soul BROTHER number #1, Little Richard,Bo Diddley.
All the talent was there. Over the top talent, but needed a producer with vision. Needed better songs. Everything else I like, especially the style. I totally forgot about the colors and they look like beach guys or skater dudes or surfers or that they belong on an island. They look so rad. never thought I'd like that retro style from this time period, but everything seemed fun. All the potential was there though, just needed more craft. Missed opportunity for talented producers. They never should have been overlooked.
maybe this interview makes sense now when, later, they performed Glamor Boy on his show and at the end, dude was like, "Truth hurts, doesn't it Arsenio?" :) llol
Arsenio is something else man....white guy rapper...he doesn't like and tries to embarrass him.... black guys rocking, he's totally fine with.....hmmmm.....just saying
Well, if you’re talking about Vanilla Ice, it’s clear Arsenio Hall clowned him because he’s fake and inauthentic. That’s been proven over the years. However, Living Colour is the real deal... just saying.
One of the most underrated bands of all time.
For real. And there were people out there who did not want us to hear them. Living Colour was decades ahead of its time.
Agreed
I wonder why?
Very underrated band. They’re talented as fuck, and even better today.
I miss this times
Such brilliant artists!

I've been going back and revisiting some of living colour's material...
Incredibly talented band... I'm dumbfounded by the crap kids listen to today.
These are all intelligent and very insightful young men. Living Colour really is more important than the credit they actually receive. Ahead of their time. And the music is awesome to boot.
They are really underated talented guys from back in the day, they had something to say and I respect that.

Love these guys. Saw them open for Aerosmith at Tom Benson Stadium for the Concert for Legends next to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Loved this! Great interview, i liked seeing them all happy and vibing together! Living Color is an awesome band 🩷🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
From The Great Music Renaissance of The 1980s. When Great Music, Hard Work, Great Ideas, and perseverance mattered.
I loved them!
I love them 😍😍😍
Corey Glover and his band are one of the all time legends.
It is an outright crime that these guys are not yet in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame!
Nice interview
And this is such a 90's Moment here.

Best live TV song ever ! Period

Wow this is great.

I think that a Living Colour-Billy Bragg show would be a pretty unique experience.
If ANYONE happens to have the Which Way to America performance from this show, PLEASE POST!!
I posted all that I have. th-cam.com/video/orbmcpDBc7I/w-d-xo.html

I know this is off topic but that background is 80s af
Did you see their fits?
Gorgeous and beautiful
Their vibe woulda been better suited to a break opening for RHCP
maybe this interview makes sense now when, later, they performed Glamor Boy on his show and at the end, dude was like, "Truth hurts, doesn't it Arsenio?" :) llol
did people really throw stuff at them as the opening act on tours? that's rough
