evan dando should have been a much bigger star. demons kept that from happening but he had pretty big balls to put out a song like this in 93. his voice and his lyrics were amazing on many songs.
I agree. One of the more underrated American songwriters of the late 20th century. People mostly know a couple hits and the famous covers the band did…. But he has a catalogue of hundreds of quality songs
Appreciate what a big deal it was to play a song like this on national TV in 93/94. If they had to change one lyric to do that it was worth it. I can only imagine it really meant something to some people out there to see this when it happened. And he didn't try to explain the song in the interview to make sure everyone knew he wasn't really gay.
Where the hell did music go?! I fell in love with Evan / lemonheads at 16 in 1991 and still need to come listen on my own every so often. I have plugs in my ears and can’t hear my wife or little son... but I can hear Evan!!!! Hell yeah! Fuck covid19, can’t wait for Evan to come play live again. So so great, but I know that if you’re reading this , then you already know 👌
Evan is real. Such great songs, authenticity and feeling. He didn't give a shit about the record deals and the dollars, that's what made him so great. Hope I get to see him live someday
@@valleygirltotallyforsure Now that I'm old and have married and divorced an addict, I'm pretty turned off by the drug use. But as a fantasy, he's still pretty swoon-worthy.
Evan looks terrified and high as fuck here. Still glorious, and for me this song made me become an even bigger advocate for gays at a time and at a school where it wasn't accepted. Thanks for this!
Loads of petty bullshit about the lyric change. less recognition that it was a big, brave song at the time and remains a bold and beautiful statement now. xx
stellajayne I thought Conan seemed uncomfortable about the subject matter of the song, so that's why he made a big deal about Evan's hair. I think some people forget how homophobic that era was.
Exactly, this was still a pretty bold statement at that time. They could have just played another song, like I dunno, a single off the album. But they chose to do this one for a reason, it seems to me.
Advise for any artist. Do not compromise unless they offer you millions of dollars, no worries anymore about paying the rent. Duck my sick. hilarious. Fuck my prick...Wear my wig....make it big...LOL
It would be like if Lou Reed changed the song 'Heroin' into 'Aspirine'. As to change it deliberately into something more acceptebale for the general public.Or 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds' into 'Mary in the sky, etc'...Writers/People who do that don't take their audience seriously. As if the public is stupid..Me as a (song)writer would never ever do that. Unless they offer me a few million dollars, I'll think about it, for my children.
Kinda hypocrite for any writer to change the original phrase into something more acceptable. This must be a joke singing: Duck my sick...Wouldn't expect that from Evan Dando, compromising to get the record sold and being on TV.???
Maybe they felt that showing support for gay people on national TV at a time when that was not easy or popular was worth a minor lyric change. Priorities.

Yes u are so correct..he is so secure and comfortable with himself..a beautiful brother..inside and out
This song meant so much to me as a teenager. Having a song like this and coming from your favorite band? Words can't describe it.
dando's cool. i'm glad he's still around.
Yeah he was into the H really bad for a while, he must have really good genes
Finally met him and he is awesome guy.

Right?
Alright guys the new anthem is here. I don’t need you to “duck my sick” to help me feel good about myself
I remember that in the nineties it was all about grunge and the Seattle bands, but the Lemonheads, Julianna Hatfield and others were overlooked.
The things you gotta do to play a song on network television!
You have to duck sicks.
Evan looks terrified and high as fuck here. Still glorious, and for me this song made me become an even bigger advocate for gays at a time and at a school where it wasn't accepted. Thanks for this!
To me he looks so comfortable but yes he looks high!!
He looks comfortable and relaxed.
This is one of the few times I think he doesn’t look like that at all.
Doing his music on stage is probably the least terrified he ever is…
The best .
respect who you are .evan is great man ☝
big gay hard
I remember seein dis!! cool.:):)
If the world was more like Evan Dando...it would be a swell place to be. As it is, it's a bit grim. Come back to the five and dine Evan Dando.

It's Evan's song. He can do whatever he wants with it. He wrote it, he can change around the lyrics all he wants.
shelleyinthecity he changed because network made him

Plenty of good musicians today too

If he hadn’t changed the lyrics, they wouldn’t have been able to play the song and a lot of people who needed to hear it wouldn’t have.
