Thank you Guru Paul I. And all of Kalicenter, your honest, a very good instructor, you keep it real, iv been practicing martial arts for 30+ years, FMA, for 21, its always a struggle to stay your best, you deserve it, you have put alot work in it too be there, I rely on your teachings of FMA, as well.
Congrats on all your viewers- so well deserved. You have a brilliant channel and full set of comp!imentary courses. Without your channel, my own training would've bombed by now, but the richness of your System has reinvigorated me once again ( never before did any weapins, but wow, I love the 'flow'). For those like me who like the impact, I have some foam sticks, and practice on my BOB :)
Very good explanation!!! For those that are new to Kali, this and all of Paul's online instruction and demonstrations are the best of all other TH-cam videos out there. Most are nonsense and teach "magical" or "fantasy" Kali or Eskrima. This is NOT the "Hogwart's" school of Kali. Yes, it is much better to get personalized instruction, but this is the next best thing. Understanding basic striking angles is where it all begins, and Kali can be that art of self defense that can save your life. Understand that Kali was developed for war and is tried and proven to be effective in actual combat, unlike commercialized Karate. However, there are valuable techniques you can learn by studying Karate. Also, it does not take years of Kali practice to become effective in a self-defense situation.
I couldn't agree more, I've picked up a lot from Paul's teachings (came from Tae Kwon Do, and we never in my school did any weapons). Made a massive difference to my training.
In my style of Kali (Robert Castro's Eskabo Daan), boxing concepts revolved around the idea of transitioning from the jab/cross range into a grappling range. For example, responding to a right cross with a gunting, striking the opponent's bicep, simultaneously using female triangular footwork and then, after transitioning to an arm lock, using the Indonesian concept of seating to bring the opponent to the ground. We never got the boxing style training of staying in the jab/cross range and out-striking our opponent.
It is called a “Talibung.” You can checkout the live blade version at TopPradoBlades.com. Sometimes we have steel trainers available at TrigonalGear.com
The empty hands of FMA is complete and deadly the striking art is called YawYan meaning Dance of death it’s a combination of PANANTUKAN and Sikaran and the Wrestling and submission is called Dumog
I've been a follower since couple years ago. I'd adapted some training drills to kicks, it's possible and the results are awesome. I'm seriously considering getting some formal kali training
Thank you! I've learned a great deal however, I want more and I need to learn and know all that is available to me. Thank you Paul keep it coming sir. Best to you and Continue to teach me as much as you have to offer. Bernard Lundy Virginia 23803
I'd say that the empty hands of Kali are in MMA because the punches, elbows, knees and low kicks of kali are the same as boxing and Muay Thai. Training them for use in MMA wouldn't look different than training boxing or Muay Thai. It's just that most Kali practitioners don't train them at the same level of intensity you find in a boxing or Muay Thai gym. Guntings might not be appropriate or effective in MMA, but neither are 3/4 of all BJJ techniques, but no one uses that as proof to say that people don't use BJJ in MMA. It might be true that there are no dedicated "Kali" practitioners in MMA, but Kali practitioners just need to train their empty hand at that level of intensity and their empty hand would be just as effective as boxing or Muay Thai.
There COULD be quite a few MMA with some Kali experience BUT yeah none probably BASED mainly in Kali. An the empty hands is as brutal as armed since Kali is a War art designed to cause pain, cripple an kill. Something fighting sports frowns on. An it's real world application is self defense. It'd be a first if any us joined MMA an got world known as being mainly an unarmed Kali fighter.
I bet if UFC or say the Olympics had a section for arts like Kali. Quite few of us would be World known BUT our art is based in Combat an Self Defense abilities. Something UFC isnt fond of since i imagine our unarmed can be quite devastating an brutal meant to really hurt an at the extremes maim an kill if came to it. An they're not fond of alot locks that might break an fracture limbs as much
Great, educate me who was it, and where can I find it. I reference Dan’s book on FMA, and Mark Wiley, “Filipino martial culture”. Pikiti tersia identified itself as an Arnis system up until Dan popularized FMA as “Kali”, I know, I was studying the art in the early ‘80s. My point is modern terms like Arnis (which is now becoming popular again), eskrima, and Kali are determined by the market. Kalis is the sword, Dan knew it and adopted the name.
I have been watching for about 3-4 years now!
Thank you very much for sharing your hard work
Thank you for watching and being here! 👍🏼⚔️🙏🏼

Yes it is 👍🏼
What about Gan Soo do?
@@cerrudmanuel Gan soo do, to what i know is a combination of various “None” Filipino martial arts so I don’t consider it part of FMA
I've been a follower since couple years ago. I'd adapted some training drills to kicks, it's possible and the results are awesome. I'm seriously considering getting some formal kali training
Glad to hear you're having success with it! It's a very versatile art!
I havent seen a broadsword drill of kali try swinnging a kampilan or a panabas
Basically the same as short staff/spear. That goes into the Dos Mano method. 👍🏼
Thank you! I've learned a great deal however, I want more and I need to learn and know all that is available to me.
Thank you Paul keep it coming sir.
Best to you and Continue to teach me as much as you have to offer.

Yes, you are right, there are many overlaps.

Yes, destructions are not allowed in UFC. 👍🏼
Kali is Arnis from “cali” fornia, the name was invented by Dan Inosanto in the seventies. “Kalis” is a sword!
When you heard about this?
First recorded “written” use of Kali referring to FMA was in the 1950’s and it was not Inosanto. 👍🏼

I should have also said that Pikti is a great art by the way and I am proud to have had the opportunity to study it.
I love martial arts history, and I love FMA, still waiting for that reference from the 1950s on the use of the word “Kali”, I want to check it out.
