The staff at the last place to just be able to hear you & say "try the Nobles" that's what you want in a guitar store. People who can just hear you & know what'll work. And that they saved you money after you decided to purchase...those are good people.
It’s nice to see a TH-cam pedal review video by someone who isn’t playing blues, jazz fusion, or metal. Getting a sense of how a pedal sounds when some goober is only playing blues licks is just impossible for me.
When I bought my first overdrive pedal, it was a used DOD Mystic Blues that I bought second-hand for about $20. It's still one of my favorite guitar pedals EVER, and I wouldn't change it for the world. It gives me exactly the tone that I need. So I relate to the "I bought a surprisingly cheap yet unexpectedly good drive pedal" thing.
Hey, this is so cool! It's awesome to see that the guitar shops in Seattle are still going strong. The Trading Musician has so many great memories. I even had a homeless guy warn me not to get ripped off by them once, back when homelessness wasn't such a big topic. They've always treated me well. But it's a shame that we've lost so many great shops in the south end. Don's Green River Music was epic, and A# was always fun, but they're both gone now. Thanks for taking us along on this adventure.
I've been trying to learn how to play guitar for the last 15 years now. I always end up dropping it because I get distracted or because things happen in life. I discovered your channel during a really exciting new chapter in my life and your videos have been one of my main inspirations when it comes to learning how to play again. Every time I receive a new video notification I get double the motivation because you always look so happy when you're playing and you always sound so good that I have to try and achieve that as well. Thank you so much for the videos and for the inspiration!
Great video. I went through (maybe still going through) my OD/Distortion hunt and I loved hearing both the pedals you chose, but more importantly was your thought process. Too many TH-camrs sing the praises of every demo pedal but few compare more than two and fewer still explain in context why one or more pedal might fit for different rigs. This was a pedal tour and I also liked the tour of literal shops and the city.
Nice. I liked the "let's involve the whole city in my pedal video" approach. Also great: the honest self-reflexion when it comes to what you really need.👍
Pretty solid pick, sounds a bit like a Marshal Gov'ner pedal from 90s. ... JHS has some fun pedalcasts since Josh has a collection of 4000+ pedals that they also regularly feature such a wide variety of brands.
Nisebelle! Thanks for taking us shopping. Great choice of pedal. I love the demo at the end. Then you pulled out the violin and I said "whoa!" My friend, you are amazing. Happy playing to you!
Let me just say I have a severe overdrive problem (think the trouble with tribbles) - the ODR-1 is a great pedal. It's fun to see/hear it in a non-Nashville setting.
nobels is one my favorites. great stacked or on its own. plus you can connect up 18volts to it . giving it tons of headroom. its a perfect simple od. great choice love the playing!
Another one to consider is the TC Electronics MojoMojo OD. Been my favorite overdrive for a long time. Has a ton of bass, but it's a joy and like $50 new. Paul Gilbert used one for awhile, until they made him a signature Mojomojo. Not sure what the difference between the two is though.
Listening to your music...it sounds like seattle grudge music from the 90s...I am saying...'sounds like'...not 'sounds exactly the same' there are flavours and shades and tones that reflect seattle grudge music for me...and every part of your music has a great tone and layering I really like the sound of...more than anyone I have heard before...as you have achieved a fat, warm, sound that is clean and clear...which is awesome!!!
For me, my perfect pedal(s) is the Boss CE-20 dual chorus the SansAmp YYZ. Perfect for my fretless bass. The Boss gives you all their classic chorus and able store your settings. The YYZ gives just enough boost and grit. Perfect pedals for the bass.
For anyone who doesn't know, the ODR-1 is the go-to overdrive for the best session musicians in the industry. Nisebelle picked it from a crowded pack, which is some pretty awesome validation!
This is so great. The take away for me is that the more expensive pedal is not necessarily "better". Sometimes a cheap pedal is great! I think even Josh from JHS would say that. 🤘
Congrats on your choice. I use the Wampler take on the Nobels ODR1 (it’s called the ‘Belle’). I think it was $149 new (not even used). And I LOVE it! It’s my favorite OD pedal. I love that ODR-style sound.
This was the most fun guitar video I’ve seen in ages. It was a demo, a journey, a tour of one of my favorite cities, and the music and playing were great. Keep making stuff like this!
I have tried dozens of overdrive pedals, the one thing I learned is that it is not pedal as such, but the interaction between amp and pedal that matters the most. If you realize that, you can get fantastic OD sounds with one or two 30-50 dollar drive pedals. Just test and mix until you find a good combination. And alwaysn always test on your own amp.
Fun video. I'm sitting next to my very first amp right now. I got it at Trading Musician... decades ago. I also spent like 3 hours in Dusty Strings looking for a "how to play beginner guitar" for my dad. I think they thought I was going to rob them.. But I found a book and got my dad into playing guitar.
Ah, the good ol' trading musician. I'm on the OD hunt, too, but probably shouldn't be. I keep building another one, buying another one and modding it, and going back to the ol' SD-1 and DOD 250 pedals. WELP
The best overdrive for me: T-Rex Møller (or Moller, if you don't have the Danish ø). I've tried quite a few overdrive pedals and this one just works better than any other, for me. It's similar to a Tube Screamer, but it's not a TS. The T-Rex Møller is more transparent, it doesn't have as much of those honky mids. These are the features: - overdrive and a boost channel (gain, tone and level for the OD, one boost knob for the boost volume) - a mix knob so you can mix in dry signal with your overdrive, so you'll cut through the mix better - a button (version 1)/a switch (version 2) that gives you more or less low end; I prefer more. It's simple, but it sounds really good! It has seriously worked with any other overdrive, distortion and fuzz pedal that I have tried it with, before or after those. It's crazy! I put my DOD Carcosa fuzz into it and it just fattened the fuzz up like a champ! One interesting thing is that the guys at That Pedal Show did a shootout between different types of pedals compared to the King Of Tone, and it turns out that the T-Rex Møller sounds the closest. That's good, because you can find them for only 50 bucks. I have the first version of the pedal, but it's the same circuit, it's just that the V2 has a switch instead of a button for the low end toggle, as I wrote above. Try the T-Rex Møller, I'm curious what you think!
Only just discovered your channel watching your old videos have inspired me to try a few mods and general maintenance and improve my soldering process keep rocking!🙂
Great vlog and a good reminder that the world of music is out there with the sunshine, sunglasses, pavement, grass, and people, not in our collective amazon or reverb cart. Also, I've heard some iffy things about Big Ear so avoiding the pizza was probably for the best. I think your choice ended up sounding perfect; in the internet gear conversation, there's so much emphasis put on versatility that sometimes we get all this stuff and still have no direction. Thanks to the staff being right there, maybe we learned that the perfect pedal isn't the "best" pedal, it's the pedal that's just for you. Funnily enough, your pedalboard and set-and-forget use case has a lot in common with Josh Scott (creator of the Morning Glory), but he uses a Sovtek Mig 50 (very close to a Fender Bassman, darker than your amps) which explains why it felt like 96% right. Every time you hit the octave-up on the Whammy not only was it smooth (like you intended) but I had some the same feeling as my first time listening to Yeah Yeah Yeahs, so not only are you sounding good, but the music is happening! Excited to hear what you write.
This was really great! As a new player, it's so easy to give into the reviews, features and hype of various pedals. But your real world approach was a great reminder of simplicity and that it doesn't need to be flashy or high end. I also love seeing practical use of a Whammy. One of my favorites and this was a unique and simple showcase of that pedal.
Used to buy and sell my gear at the Trading Musician back in the 90s! Lots a of good deals to be had back then. My petal vote would be DS1, DS2, Sansamp Classic and Tube Screamer..
I love a cheap dupe. I recently sold my TS808 for like £100 cause I remembered I still had my first pedal - an Arion Tubulator that cost £20. I figured I couldn't imagine a person who'd reliably be able to tell the difference, and cashed in.
I understand you were looking for a more transparent and tonally darker overdrive. You have made a very good choice, congratulations :) It is a choice that is compatible with your equipment. I follow your work and wish you continued success. Greetings from Turkey and my band Echo Noise. Gunay
The first pedal I bought was a Tube Screamer in 1981 but it took more than 15 years for me to really get into Gear Acquirement Syndrome. I like my Rocktron Gainiac.
Without naming names, I got a second-hand, lesser known heavy metal pedal for about $40, which is one of my favorites for rock and blues. I set the knobs around 5 instead of 10. The sustain soars for miles. It sounds almost Gilmour-esque for solos. Sometimes cheap things can sound expensive! Haha
I just noticed that incredibly creative use of delay in the jam, your videos are genuinely some of the best I’ve seen and I’ll be first in line as soon as your original music hits the internet
Your music and your videos are always so engaging and entertaining, thanks for sharing them with us! I used to be a pedal fiend before I became a mom and couldn't justify the spending. I've done a few shootouts over the years, to narrow it down to the ones I actually love and will use, and aside from a couple unique "boutique" ones that I kept because I'd never be able to get them again, now I end up playing with a Boss BD-2 the most. With a GE-7 EQ in front of it, I have been able to sculpt almost any tone I like, and it also happens to be the first pedal I ever bought
I have to agree, the nobels suits you perfectly. If you find someday wanting something a bit different i think you might like the boss blues driver as well.
This video was so excellent! Thanks for taking us on your shopping journey, demonstrating financial restraint (this is something I struggle with lol), and fucking shredding throughout. Excited to see what's next from you :)))
Oh snap that’s crazy they have one of those pizza muffs Good call on the Nobels’ EQ!! Fits perfectly with your rig. The added meat when switching from sparkly clean to drive is just right.
Nice video - I just use a 40 buck Caline Crazy Cacti two stage drive (Fulltone clone)...Keely has just released the Tube Screamer/Nobel 2-1 pedal, too!
So fun to see you go to the same shops I did on my quest for an OD pedal. I ended up getting a Plumes from American music. It works great with my Epiphone SG (aftermarket pickups). Your videos are always so fun AND informative. Thank you for representing our city in such a great way ❤
Love the ODR, but will check out the JAM pedal. The Morning Glory is also great. I can't live with just one overdrive pedal, got to have at least three or four on my board. Really like your music, by the way. And great playing!
It's always good to find the perfect, well anything. I've pretty much finished buying guitars, from an Edwards Les Paul Custom, to a Modded Strat and Penelope (My beloved telecaster) an AC15, and my now almost complete pedalboard, just waiting on the Wah/Volume pedal, TU3S and looper to come in. I have the perfect gear for me and now I just need to practice my exercises more and sculpting my tone.
The fender pedal sounded amazing, sad that the boost wasn't apparent, that might be a winner for me. Right now my only OD is a kingtone duellist, albeit a bit expensive.
When you've got a great-sounding guitar, the bb circuit is the best, zero coloration. Mine's the Keeley Blues Disorder, 'cause it comes with a bonus ocd drive inside it.
If you like the Nobels and the Morning Glory check out the Browne Protein. It's quite expensive even used but it has both circuits in a small dual housing and each side has 3 controls.
Sweet tones and tune! I had no idea Dusty Strings carried electric stuff. 👀 I'm always searching for fuzz and reverb pedals. Just picked up a Keeley Loomer, which has both. Love the muff setting on it. Can't say it's my favorite verb, but having the flexibility to run it pre or post fuzz is sweet. Oh, great meeting you at Mike's gig on Saturday.
I didn't know they did either until I was on their website! I love the Loomer! Definitely one of my favorites fuzzes. It was great to meet you as well! What a great show!
as ridiculous as the slice of pie fuzz is, i’ve actually had my eye on it since it came out. it’s silly and definitely doesn’t *visually* fit in on a “serious” pedal board, but it has a vibe and sounds amazing. the odr-1 is a really fantastic hidden gem, and is absolutely worth checking out at least once. it’s definitely not for everyone, as you said, it’s very dark, but damn if it doesn’t sound great
I was very pleased to see the Mojo Hand Magpie get a look in. It's underrated and fabulous in equal measure. But you made the Nobels sound so good I may have to get one myself! And Nisebellle, you are FANTASTIC guitar player, like seriously top tier. That whole demo at the end is magnificent! Thank you!
NISEBELLE’S DEMOS NEVER MISS, I SWEAR, EACH ONE KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER😭😭
The staff at the last place to just be able to hear you & say "try the Nobles" that's what you want in a guitar store. People who can just hear you & know what'll work. And that they saved you money after you decided to purchase...those are good people.
Your videos are truly a joy to watch and something our gear community needs! Thank you!
Thank you so much! Can’t wait for more Jag-Wars!
It’s nice to see a TH-cam pedal review video by someone who isn’t playing blues, jazz fusion, or metal. Getting a sense of how a pedal sounds when some goober is only playing blues licks is just impossible for me.

You have no idea how happy that makes me to read! I’m so glad you’ve found some inspiration from these videos and I hope you keep on playing!
I still have the cheap tube screamer. That is now worth money
Great video. I went through (maybe still going through) my OD/Distortion hunt and I loved hearing both the pedals you chose, but more importantly was your thought process. This female muso appreciates your search & your approach !😊
Nice. I liked the "let's involve the whole city in my pedal video" approach. Also great: the honest self-reflexion when it comes to what you really need.👍
You should do more videos like this, watching you travel around the town is fun!
Thanks for sharing this, and taking us on your journey. Your song is awesome, your production sounds great!
Dusty Strings is the best!
One of my favorites! Also definitely did not expect them to have so many pedals!
Pretty solid pick, sounds a bit like a Marshal Gov'ner pedal from 90s.
...
JHS has some fun pedalcasts since Josh has a collection of 4000+ pedals that they also regularly feature such a wide variety of brands.
Damn, I thought you did a perfect standing splits for the thumbnail for a second
Nisebelle! Thanks for taking us shopping. Great choice of pedal. I love the demo at the end. Then you pulled out the violin and I said "whoa!" My friend, you are amazing. Happy playing to you!
Your editing is amazing, to the point even a instrument's noob like me loves your videos ! Thanks nisebelle
Pedal shopping was cool but I want to hear more about that lunch!! Yum!!
Great video this really satisfied the guitar geek in me. Oh and wonderful playing
Such a chill fun watch, hope you do more videos like this!

I love this channel. Such good vibes. Always smiling.
I love the background music in this, great watch!
The separation and layering in your tracks of the incidental and background music...is really-really good!!!
Delightful vid, thanks for sharing!
damn! 12:03 kicks on and that sounds gooooooood. Thanks for the vid!

Awesome, I use the nobles right behind a Greer Lightspeed… Rock on!!!
Thanks for sharing your tone quest - Judging by the sounds and smile you made the right choice! Cheers 😎
Love that you got your pedal from one of my favorite places Trading musician, bought and sold so much gear through them over the years
For me, my perfect pedal(s) is the Boss CE-20 dual chorus the SansAmp YYZ. Perfect for my fretless bass. The Boss gives you all their classic chorus and able store your settings. The YYZ gives just enough boost and grit. Perfect pedals for the bass.

love this format, the video itself, and the playing / composition at the end was superb!! Easily one of my favorite channels rn. Rock on nisebelle 🤟🏻
Love the Seattle scene (when the sun is out)!
This is so great. The take away for me is that the more expensive pedal is not necessarily "better". Sometimes a cheap pedal is great! I think even Josh from JHS would say that. 🤘
sounds great, Nisbelle! Your new pedal really does match well with your rig and style!

Heck yeah

The whammy is my favorite pedal on my board! If I could only keep on pedal it would be that haha
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Used to buy and sell my gear at the Trading Musician back in the 90s! Lots a of good deals to be had back then. My petal vote would be DS1, DS2, Sansamp Classic and Tube Screamer..
Nisebelle, a very informative and useful video!!! Thank You Darlin'!!!!
I love the way you tell stories. Great video and great playing!
This end demo was so sick! Can we please get a release? I keep listening to this.
I love a cheap dupe. I recently sold my TS808 for like £100 cause I remembered I still had my first pedal - an Arion Tubulator that cost £20. I figured I couldn't imagine a person who'd reliably be able to tell the difference, and cashed in.
This truly speaks to me
i swear to god these demos r insane i'd kill for a full version
Those Fender tube distortion pedals were good--but yeah the boost didn't do a lot
I was super impressed with it (besides the boost)! I had no idea Fender even released those haha
The line was kind of hit or miss but there were some real winners!@@nisebelle
I understand you were looking for a more transparent and tonally darker overdrive. You have made a very good choice, congratulations :) It is a choice that is compatible with your equipment. I follow your work and wish you continued success. Greetings from Turkey and my band Echo Noise. Gunay
That demo jam is epic
Another win for the nobels! Great demo vid!
I do love that in combo with the pedalboard it got some really nice Yvette Young vibes.
Girl, I love that you're rockin' your true self! Subscribed!
Each video you upload is a banger! I would love to see a tour of your small studio and the gear in it!
The first pedal I bought was a Tube Screamer in 1981 but it took more than 15 years for me to really get into Gear Acquirement Syndrome. I like my Rocktron Gainiac.
yes the dreaded seeking of the pedal the hardest quest there is i like she kept it simple sometimes simplicity is best btw nice jaguar
Yessss another upload!❤
Without naming names, I got a second-hand, lesser known heavy metal pedal for about $40, which is one of my favorites for rock and blues. I set the knobs around 5 instead of 10. The sustain soars for miles. It sounds almost Gilmour-esque for solos. Sometimes cheap things can sound expensive! Haha
I love how the shop did to opposite of UPsell you and you got exactly what you wanted. 🥰
That outro demo was awesome
that violin part is so cool i really didn't expect it but it works so well. kind of wish it was longer
that was a really cool video, also I loved the demo at the end!
I have to agree, the nobels suits you perfectly. If you find someday wanting something a bit different i think you might like the boss blues driver as well.
I was low key looking for a blues driver at every shop haha
@@nisebelle next time haha
Congrats Nicebelle! That pedal sounds great. Loved the tune at the end too. Had to get up and dance. 😅
Trading Musician is a great shop! With that riff and tone, very reminisant of Yvette Young.
It really is! I always leave with some piece of gear every time I’m there haha. Yvette Young is definitely my biggest guitar inspiration!
the nobels is my most recent overdrive addition, and it went instantly into permanent usage status in my stacking array.
Just discovered your channel, I love your content, that end jam was on fire, stuck in my head now!
Happy you found an overdrive that works for you 😊
And wow that demo at the end! You’re an amazing player and Ariel is such a cool guitar 💙
that was wicked
This video was so excellent! Thanks for taking us on your shopping journey, demonstrating financial restraint (this is something I struggle with lol), and fucking shredding throughout. Excited to see what's next from you :)))
Oh snap that’s crazy they have one of those pizza muffs
Good call on the Nobels’ EQ!!
Thank you for representing our city in such a great way ❤
Dang thank you for reminding me about the ODR-1 Mini that's been sitting in my closet forever 😅 super underrated pedal, I back that choice
There’s a mini?! I may have to look into that so I can fit more delays on my bored haha
Love the ODR, but will check out the JAM pedal. The Morning Glory is also great.
I can't live with just one overdrive pedal, got to have at least three or four on my board.
Really like your music, by the way. And great playing!
Holy shit, that demo was such a banger!

You have a built in tube screamer on your amp. Am I missing something?
as ridiculous as the slice of pie fuzz is, i’ve actually had my eye on it since it came out. it’s silly and definitely doesn’t *visually* fit in on a “serious” pedal board, but it has a vibe and sounds amazing.
the odr-1 is a really fantastic hidden gem, and is absolutely worth checking out at least once. it’s definitely not for everyone, as you said, it’s very dark, but damn if it doesn’t sound great
I was very pleased to see the Mojo Hand Magpie get a look in. It's underrated and fabulous in equal measure. But you made the Nobels sound so good I may have to get one myself! And Nisebellle, you are FANTASTIC guitar player, like seriously top tier. That whole demo at the end is magnificent! Thank you!
I’d never heard of Mojo Hand FX before this but the Magpie was such a great pedal!
