      @@onlyinjapanGOthey are supposed to stay in effect for a week. The fact they are still saying it’s in effect is not a surprise. If you read the papers that describe the mechanism behind this warning system it’s usually a 7 day elevated risk period.

      That is the biggest take away, in Japan, it can happen anywhere, anytime and I’m transparent in this. There’s always a risk a traveler may be in an earthquake but 99.9% of them are small and many of those are unnoticed.

    Although it is impossible to predict earthquakes, Japan is a country where earthquakes and natural disasters occur frequently. Food, drinks, sanitary napkins, and shoes are also important during an evacuation. (You may step on broken glass, etc.)
    There is a possibility that Mt. Fuji, which has remained quiet for 300 years due to earthquakes, could erupt. It is better to refrain from climbing Mt. Fuji.

    • @vasilikonstan
      @vasilikonstan 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes and No: The current building code is very strict, and has been for decades. But there are an estimated 7 million homes in Japan that are not 'earthquake proof,' which amounts to around 13% of the total number of dwellings. Buildings continue to collapse during major earthquakes to this day, although the number is lower than it was in the past. That said, the bigger threat of an earthquake is fire, and tsunamis. In the Tohoku earthquake of 2011, 122,000 buildings were destroyed, and roughly 98% of those buildings were destroyed by the tsunami that followed the earthquake.

Since the warning I had a small suitcase ready in my hotel room with a basic “essential stuff” kit in case I had to urgently leave the place. Also I had some extra cash and my passport always with me when visiting places. If you want to compare it to something, I'd tell Americans its like tornado watches. They're just stating that the conditions are suitable, but it doesnt mean that anything will happen. I traveled through Japan during Christmas and New Years while studying in Tokyo and I was only 50 km away from the Noto earthquake on Jan 1st this year and nothing happened to me. If you travel to Japan you have to accept the possibility of strong earthquakes at any time. If you are afraid of them just book any modern place - it will have earthquake reinforcements. For example the Kobe earthquake from 1995 had horrible destruction, because buildings weren't reinforced properly, however nowadays the majority of buildings will withstand and keep you safe during an emergency. Japan is the most earthquake-resistant country in the world and you have nothing to fear for as a tourist. Only locals in the highest risk areas have to be concerned if their house is still not properly reinforced - not because of fear for life, but because of fear for repair cost. This is also a reason why many traditional timber houses are empty - no one wants to reinforce them because it's expensive. Fortunately most modern buildings are reinforced.

      Huh? Cancel then. I said people will do whatever they want depending on their comfort level with this. It’s up to each person. The advisory is real, but it’s more for residents to be prepared. Tourists are mostly in urban areas well prepared for this now. It’s Japan.

The answer is when they say it’s over. The quake happened on 3/11/2011 about a week after the same conditions. The M9+ hit hard. We didn’t get a megaquake warning.I think the heighten awareness would have saved the power plant, a lot of lives.

      I would expect to stay in my hotel room, or only visit nearby commercial areas of walking distance from the hotel. Actually, unless it is a dangerously big typhoon, we locals do walk around if necessarily, with an umbrella and rain shoes, finding the raining getting weaker and the lightning moving away, leaving our office earlier than usual expecting the trains might stop the operation. However, I wouldn’t recommend for someone not familiar with the city’s system and language to get out and walk around😊

    If there was an actual prediction and I could afford to go, I would totally travel to anywhere to experience a bigger earthquake than the 7.4 that I experienced when I was young. Earthquakes are exciting for the most part when you live in a place that is well-prepared for them. I've never been to Japan at all but, as a Californian, I think Japan is more prepared for earthquakes than we are and we do try to prepare for them here too. Another place that I think is more prepared for them than we are is Chile and perhaps also Peru.

    The most important in Japan that any tourist should do is to remain calm, take cover and trust the local authorities and the rescue, for example, Tokyo fire department is considered one of the 3 best professional fire departments in the world (the others being the NYFD and the Paris fire department), if I was scheduled to go to Japan, I would go anyway, because even I know the Japanese rescuers would do their best to help and save people, those that are telling "oh the sensationalism"... I bet that those who said that never felt what is feeling a big earthquake... I was on a train going from Kyoto to Osaka in the morning of June 18th 2018, When suddenly the train breakes with a great violence and immediately the train started to shake on the sides... That was an 6.1 ricther scale earthquake that happened that unfortunately killed a 9 year old elementary school girl that was hit when the walking in the sidewalk and the wall of her school fall on her...😢
    The other victim was a 80 year old woman that died when a furniture in her house fall on her...
    So I always get very angry when I hear idiots telling lies and thinking that they are the smartest people in the world...

      At the end it's up to you, and only up to you if you want to take that Trip. I can only speak for myself, i visited Japan two times so far and will do it soon again. There was always and will always be the risk of bigger earthquakes and tsunamis, i knew that the first time i stepped foot on the airplane. Like i said i only can speak for myself, but I'd rather "risk" my life for doing something i love and want to do than regret it later in life that i didn't do it. Because keep in mind the mega quake can happen tomorrow or in the next 30 years - because that's the prediction right now.
