    This is a solid design but after some experience with it, and after hours of troubleshooting water blockages I would recommend bypassing the metal horse barb as it has a tendency to become blocked when condensation comes back down the tube. Instead, simply slide the tube directly into the opening, and secure it tightly with packing tape to stop any leaks. The humidifier needs to sit below the tank it is regulating with the hose at an upward angle to allow droplets to flow back into the unit, and out the tank opening as well. This method (and ensuring the flow both out, and back into the humidifier from condensation is good) has performed perfectly and never clogged itself.

    If you are struggling with humidity for your reptile and your house is dry or if you have reptiles with different requirements like us, this has been the best solution. We can't take credit my bf found this guy. So its fairly inexpensive the humidifier was about $50 Canadian and the tube and fitting are from home hardware and it was $10.00. This was better then spending the 100s at the vet when ladder (his ball python) would get a respiratory infection. You don't need to leave it on all the time the video gives you more detail of the sizes of hoes etc. We found its also more reliable then a fogger. I am not saying this will work for everyone but it works for us. 😊 ps make sure you bring the top with you as there are a couple of tear drop humidifiers and they might be different. If you can't find one that fits perfectly I would try a slightly smaller one and seal it with silicon for like a bathroom or whatever and get a timer for it if you have odd working hours or are you are afraid you might leave it on.

    Great tutorial, the only thing I saw that was incorrect was the brass nipple is 3/8 barb to 1/4" npt, not 1/2" npt

    May I ask why cool mist and not warm mist? I've been struggling with temp AND humidity in my tank for my ball python (because my house is old and doesn't hold warmth well, living in New England sucks in the winter) and I was wondering if a warm mist one might be better to help keep the temp up as well as the humidity?

    • @Tobashadow
      @Tobashadow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the good thing about this method, if you want a warm mist one instead for your type of animal then you just find a warm humidifier and use the same method

      @@KO-xm4iy I had this same issue and troubleshot it for hours. Eventually, I ditched the horse barb and put the tube directly into the opening, securing it with packing tape. Then, insured the humidifier is sitting lower than the tank it is regulating, and the hose feeds up at an upwards angle. This finally solved the issue. The water condensates but the tube angle causes it to flow back in and out in a way not to clog the pipe.
