Am I the only one who thinks that VA-28 north of I-66 is a good candidate to convert into an I-66 3di (I-566?, since 166 and 366 are already taken by VA state routes) sometime in the future? Once the 28/66 interchange is completed, it will be a full freeway. And making it a 3di would connect IAD and Loudoun County (which could be considered important enough because of its data centers) to the interstate system.
The ramp from 66 East to 28 North is now in its permanent configuration keeping left of the barrier crossing 66. I'm ready for the auxiliary lane to be installed on the 66 East regular lanes between exit 52 and exit 53. It won't be long until traffic already on 28 South starts crossing the newly constructed 28 South bridge over 66. The older 28 South bridge will be used for Braddock Rd/Walney Rd traffic using the loop ramp again to access 66 East. Pedestrians would use the older 28 South bridge.

Used to go back and forth on that highway, starting in Culpeper 😩 Crazy commute. Rarely saw it like this 🤣

That construction at the intersection with i66, that's been going on for years.
I hear it's supposed to finally all be finished around the end of the year.
