      Sadly it's because dentistry for the longest time started off as as a scam that was performed with traveling circus's. A lot more people died than were relieved from these particular dentist. For some reason it still kind of persists today And affects our laws are financing and the way the way we still don't legitimize dental cleaning or treatment.
      Some will claim that a lot of dental practices and beliefs have not been then pure reviewed or fully studied but don't seem to cause a harmful effect.And it's not that there aren't studies about dental cleanings and practices it's more so kind of like the issue she addressed about mouthwashing before or after brushing your teeth in another video. Even mouthwash will say it can cause cavities.But the reasons why are a little more nuanced and complicated.A lot more research needs to be done to legitimize dental practiceSadly it's also very underfundedBecause people think it's just basic and there's really nothing more to learn about the teeth just clean them scrape them and put floride on them or rip them out. It's more so how legislation looks at what should or shouldn't be funded same thing with the administration and businesses that may be running some research departments.
      Vision care though has a lot more research and still gets a lot of the same treatment as dental. Like how do we Not need to see and still expect to have a job and manage our lives there are lives especially in the United States where driving is so important for getting anywhere

    I recently went and got X-rays, a deep cleaning, a laser treatment, and a crown because of a cracked tooth. I’m so glad I went because I feel so much better after having them cleaned! It’s been a while since I’ve had insurance, and it was really difficult to imagine paying thousands of dollars for something I couldn’t afford anyway. It’s unfortunate that we have to worry about whether or not to take care of our physical needs because we have bills!

    I went to the dentist every 6 months for cleanings. I floss after every meal. I brush 2 to 3x per day. I literally only have 4 small cavities in my mouth, and yet, I have horrible periodontal disease with bad bone loss around all my molars. I am now going to be having flap surgery with bone grafts on every molar in my mouth.
    I also have the autoimmune disease, oral Lichen Planus which has attacked my gums and cheeks with horrible blisters and sores keeping my gums very inflamed.
    Bottom line is, you can still do all those things to care for your teeth, but hormones and a poor diet are the true culprits of this. The better I eat, sticking to a strict whole foods diet instantly tightens my teeth and gums while balancing my hormones. It also stops the Lichen Planus dead in its tracks.

      Thank you for asking! I prefer to use the ultrasonic and scalers and curettes. I am certified for local anesthetic - each state has different rules on that. How long should Periodontal charting take? The hygienist was naming numbers (almost all 4s) out faster than the other tech could input them. The whole thing (3 numbers for each tooth) took maybe almost a minute and while I couldn't see what was going on, it definitely didn't feel like she was pushing the probe into the gums at all teeth... (or nearly any teeth) more like just moving it in front of the gum line and estimating based on maybe a few actual probings in the beginning...
    Also, I'm advised for a D4346, which of course costs more, isn't preventative and therefore not covered 100%, and uses up some of my max. But I didn't have bleeding and the gums don't "look" inflamed. This seems to be a way to capture funds to justify a deep cleaning, rather than just doing what's needed and billing D1110. I'd rather they just bill (2) D1110s as separate appointments for half the mouth each appointment... that way they get paid more but it stays "preventative".

      I saw them (23 yr career Army) - usually annually and had about an hour appt. They were pretty throughout. Never recommended SRP though ---but now I'm getting that recommended. I think the Army's hygienists are overworked and under the gun to see as many patients as possible. Seems stressful. I know the last couple of Army Clinics I went to ---contractor hygienists were taking care of me (Germany). Seems like a good way to see Europe if you contract w/ the Army overseas.

My orthodontist said everything looks fine but I can clearly see that the worst part of my gum has relatively deep pocketing and I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome so I can’t risk losing a tooth or teeth 🌝 they were also like ‘yeah we don’t really know about this stuff ecks dee go see your dentist’. So I have a couple signs of gingivitis, But I have xrays of my teeth annually, Would be dentist know if I have gingivitis based off of those xrays or should I talk to my dentist about some other option. My dentist has never said anything about gingivitis after seeing my xrays so I am not sure if I should be concerned or not. Also after my last dentist appointment my dentist said I had no issues with my teeth but I am not sure how seriously I should take that, I have slightly stained teeth (no idea how to whiten them although I would love to know how) and again I have some signs of gingivitis but no inflammation of my gums or anything like that.

    Antibiotics should be given a day before deep cleanings as bacteria is released into the bloodstream. Then say hello to eventual Alzheimer's, more plaque buildup in arteries.. LANAP is expensive, but it at least kills the bacteria.

      No. Bone cannot be grown back significantly. Once we start to lose bone, teeth begin to become loose and fall out. Brushing, flossing, using a water pic and frequent cleanings are the best options.

    I had the deep cleaning a few weeks ago and have to go back october 1st. I'm now cleaning like crazy, brushing for well over the recomended 2 minutes, because I wanna make 200% sure nothing is left behind. Then I go in between the teeth with a smaller brush and in other place with dental floss. And to finish I use mouthwash. Now I'm gonna go crazy if she still finds stuff on my teeth or under the gum, coz I never wanna go through that deep cleaning ever again. That numbing thing made my hands and my whole body tremble 😯

    Even with gengivatis there is some bone lost.

    • @TeethTalk

      however, even with minimal bone loss, there is not always pocketing. you can not perform a deep cleaning if there is no pocketing (aka there is nowhere to go "deep"). a regular cleaning is extremely efficient and not a better cleaning. they are two different things depending on your tissue. hope this helps!

I got a sleep study based on that and was told I have "moderate to severe" sleep apnea when sleeping on my side and (probably) extremely severe sleep apnea when sleeping on my back. It's a diagnosis that will lead to treatment that extends my life by 20+ years. That dude is a fricken hero as far as I'm concerned!!!! So many of the professionals in your industry perform this kind of service, and based on that I can't help but thank all of you for being awesome!

    Soo I just realized for 10 years I never did routine checkups so there it already starts. Anyone with me in this conclusion?💩 Yes I did checkups, whenever I wanted, they resulted in shit.

    I have a cavity on my front tooth and all the measurements were 3, 4 and like one 5 and they said i NEED a deep cleaning or the cavity filling is pointless.. And they want 600 a visit for each side cleaning... Does this seem outlandish or do you agree?

      Scam. It is not uncommon for these scams. Get a second opinion, if you dont believe.....uts a scam, my dear.

      Same happened to me and my gums are beautiful. Not going to do it and yes quoted $675 for each side of mouth. Getting a second opinion.

      Joey P 89 Most likely you do need a deep cleaning. If you don’t treat and manage your perio, then yes filling your cavity is pointless. There is no point in restoring your teeth if you’re not going to take care of the foundation, which is your gums and bone bcuz you’re going to end up losing your teeth to gum disease. Always better and easier to treat perio disease earlier on instead of wait for it to get worse, then it becomes much harder to treat.

    I need to get a deep cleaning in a few weeks and I am embarrassed about how my teeth got this way. Luckily, the dentist told me I have great bone structure, I just have a lot of plague that's on my teeth and need a deep clean. I know that it won't be terrible and my teeth will feel amazing after, but my nerves are out of control. :(

    I’ve been to the dentist once in my entire life & it was just a consultation to see how much it would be to fix my teeth. I did that when I was 22. I’m now 28 & I’ve never had a cleaning. This video has terrified me because I have some pretty bad tartar build up on my 4 bottom front teeth. I do plan to get my teeth fixed this year. They’re very crooked & they look dirty even after brushing & flossing and it makes me feel extremely self conscious. I think I will feel 100x better if I even just had teeth that appeared clean.
    Again, this video has terrified me lol

    I have a couple 5s right now and the dentist is having me come back in 4 weeks to do a tissue check to see if I need the deep cleaning. I really don't want to, it sounds so painful and scary 😭😭

    • @TeethTalk
      @TeethTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It totally is not painful! We numb you up to make sure you're comfortable. The gums may feel a little tender after (similar to how your muscles feel after you work out). Hope this helps! Sending positive vibes!

    There’s more than just 3 types of cleanings... there is also gingival scaling in presence of no bone loss (D4346 code) and perio maintenance cleanings.

    • @TeethTalk
      @TeethTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Totally! I only mentioned how there are other cleanings - such as localized SRPs. I was trying to focus on the "new patient" and make it simple for the general public, but you are definitely correct about the additional cleaning options. Thank you for spreading the toothy vibes!
