I really enjoyed your "practice workshop". I have been a teacher for 35 years, teaching elementary to college master degree students. From this perspective, I would like to offer a couple of suggestions that I believe will make the workshop easier for you and more enjoyable for the students. 1) If you are going to list the elements and principles of design, I would have a previously written list. After the students have guessed, or you have given the list to them, tape the list on the board (or wall), Otherwise, a considerable amount of time will be spent repeating the list so that students can write them down. If you are not going to discuss them further, you may want to not even mention them. Or just list a couple that you will be focusing on. I'm not sure what amount of time you have available. 2) Explain negative space and SHOW examples. Most students will not know this concept or will need a review. It can be as simple as drawing a box with a simple leaf inside. Fill in the leaf for positive space and explain that everything outside is the negative space. and 3) Use MUCH LARGER boxes for your thumb nail sketches. You know what you are drawing but the audience doesn't. They will all look the same to them. You have a good "outline" for your workshop. I hope the suggestions are of some value. If not, IGNORE them!! Best wishes. Laura

Thanks a bunch for your suggestions! This is going to be a open to everyone class so I'm glad to hear what I need to work on. A lot of what I'm banking on is going to be based on who comes and their experience levels. Since this is an event at my local gallery space, I likely will be speaking to a bunch of other artists who at least know the basics to some degree, but I'll keep everything you mentioned in mind for sure. Of what I have though do you think it's a good lesson and easy to follow enough?

Hi, I watched your whole lesson and took notes as if I were a student without much knowledge. I think that you have a very solid outline and presentation. The only thing that I would change is the size of your sketch boxes. Even on the video, I couldn't tell what you were trying to show. I have watched many of your videos so I have seen your sketch books and know what your thumbnails look like. I would suggest that the last boxes that you drew be the size of your beginning boxes. It would be nice if you can hold up one of your sketch books so the students can actually see the "real" thing. Other than the box sizes, you are READY!! Best of luck!! Have fun!! Laura.

Yes as I mentioned in the video. My goal is to get larger paper. Which you had mentioned as an issue previously
