I have always wondered if people who work on these aircraft ever feel upset that they won't be able to actually fly them, I couldn't imagine being a part of the crew building them, repairing them for your whole career and seeing them be flown by others while you know almost everything about the plane but will never have the opportunity to fly or learn to fly it yourself
@@Kaiyats yes I understand what you mean, but luckily for me I took up flying small Rallye aircraft later in life, but it would have been great to fly in .
You think this Harrier would be certified to fly at Air Shows just because it looked pretty? Thirteen months would have been spent making sure the insides were just as pretty.
You idiots! Its just a manner of speaking. If they say it looked like it just flew in doesn't mean it did, they just point out that its in a very good state compared to others i guess.
The only reason the FAA okayed it was because of his background. You'd have to go through a ton of training with someone who knows there stuff before getting them to okay it.
As a Military brat, I spent many of hours on the weekend and at air shows watching planes come and go. The Harrier Jump Jet was always a crowd pleaser. And THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE SIR. Let me know if your ever in Arkansas I'd love a short flight in the 2 seater...
Does that not make sense to you? I guarantee there's been 100x as many performance car deaths as jet plane or tank deaths in the US. There's plenty of vehicles that are banned in the US, it's because they didn't pass EPA emission standards or crash test standards. cringe bro
There's a reason this man was a test pilot and a successful front line fast jet pilot. He can keep his ego in check and he respects this aircraft and what it takes to fly it safely. Thanks for the video and thanks for being a custodian of this piece of aviation history. I believe the USMC even kept the Blue Vixen Look down Shoot down avionics kit which speaks volumes for how good the Sea Harrier was even when in AV8-B variant.
After 6 years as a US Marine in aircraft maintenance and another 40 years working all over world in aircraft maintenance I was lucky enough to have worked both for and with people like Colonel Walls.
"Eventually my day is going to come where I cant fly this airplane anymore, but hopefully I can have passed it onto a younger generation who will be able to safely be able to fly this airplane" idk about anybody else but I have so much respect for that statement.

First off, it's always wonderful to see all manner of vehicles preserved for future generations to study, but the uniqueness of the 'Harrier JJ' will always bring gasps of astonishment. I sat in the pilot seat of a two-seater version, and that was an amazing experience in itself, but to fly an aircraft which can slow to a hover and have true VTOL capability must be such an incredible feeling for a pilot. Great filming on the video too, and good to see the appreciation for one of the most innovative inventions ever to come out of the UK. Best of luck to all involved in keeping the legacy of the Harrier JJ alive and well.
I was an F-102 mechanic in the 70's......one day while on the flight line a Harrier came into view and did a nose to nose with the tower and we could hear the back and forth on our vehicle speakers..it was hilarious to witness this jet hovering like a bee looking at the tower!!

Join the military if you truly wish to fly. Here in the UK you train for free to become a pilot in the Navy or RAF, all that's required is passing a few tests and interviews.
And if you're not in the UK then your nation's air force will still likely train and employ you. Or if you are desperate to fly go to Indonesia and work for Suzi Airlines.

Really, I very much doubt he paid 3 million!? For a Harrier that was doomed to be scrapped or otherwise displayed in a museum? He might have spent 3 million overhauling it and setting up his operation. Hopefully he will recoup costs by taking it to air shows .. which seems to be the whole point! Big respect to him...

I just want you to know that that's total horseshit. There are tonnes of young people who are wholly into this stuff, and every other retro hobby imaginable. There are teenagers who rebuild valve radios and restore classic cars. You just haven't met them.

Agreed...
I've met a lot of young men and women too that love classic cars and architecture in art class I teach . My grandson did a project on the P51 Mustang because he loved the looks and sound of them and got picked on because it was "old", "war related " . I see it in my classes , there's a special group of young kids that love it and there is some that's more stuck in phones and social media society that are so out of touch with world they'll be hurting in few years..lol.

I'm so glad that someone is looking after these gorgeous unique British aircraft. Thank you Art!
@Joshua Talley but the Harrier is a British aircraft.... Much like the raf are now using new American aircraft on the aircraft carriers
@Joshua Talley the British invented the Harrier, its an RAF plane that we sold to America.
@Joshua Talley literally a british plane

I used to work on harriers in England at the factory where they were built ,they were fantastic planes then and always will be, so nice to see some will be saved, well done.

I was not aware people can actually own jet fighters, new mission in life.
The only reason the FAA okayed it was because of his background. You'd have to go through a ton of training with someone who knows there stuff before getting them to okay it.
I'm not a pilot,
But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night! 😉
I can imagine the insurance for it is insane.

Does that not make sense to you? I guarantee there's been 100x as many performance car deaths as jet plane or tank deaths in the US. There's plenty of vehicles that are banned in the US, it's because they didn't pass EPA emission standards or crash test standards.

Thanks for the video and thanks for being a custodian of this piece of aviation history.
I believe the USMC even kept the Blue Vixen Look down Shoot down avionics kit which speaks volumes for how good the Sea Harrier was even when in AV8-B variant.

Join the military if you truly wish to fly. Here in the UK you train for free to become a pilot in the Navy or RAF, all that's required is passing a few tests and interviews.
Try British airways, I read something that they garuentee a job if you pass your flight school there. Check it out
Look again companies are hiring EVERYWHERE....
And if you're not in the UK then your nation's air force will still likely train and employ you. Or if you are desperate to fly go to Indonesia and work for Suzi Airlines.
