Nice features on the surface. I can see why folks would want to buy this product but boy oh boy I'm glad you are on the job. Incredibly dangerous. Thanks Jason. You are being very fair with your review. Hopefully they'll get back to you with the updated product.
Your ongoing work is absolutely commendable and my #1 go to for reviews. I do like the features of this product for use in a minivan camper, but wow how grim the consequences could be. It would take a bit for me to trust that they make right all their future batteries and not just what they send to you. Grinding down the QR codes...wow.
I bought this battery. They sent me an email offering a $30.00 refund. I'm disappointed to say the least. I'll have to keep an eye on it. Thanks for your vigilance.
Well I told them they better reach out to previous customers, it's good to hear they at least did that... As for the $30 bucks... I guess it's hard to put a value on the GradeB cells vs the GradeA cells. Keep me posted if they say anything different.
@ They wouldn't get away with this in the UK, despite us lowering standards with Brexit we still have some rights and would get a full refund. Certainly if bought on credit card. Do you not have consumer rights in the US ?
Interesting. But I would be willing to bet that the "low temp" cutoffs and "restarts" are faulty in 99-100% of all battery packs. The amount of temp sensors are insufficient and not placed accurately. Not sure why you tube "gurus" of battery packs slavishly ( money and self importance I guess) promote them. Open a reputable battery with "low temp" cutoff and restart capabilities then place a temp sensor, independent of theirs, in the middle center of a battery pack, close it up, freeze it and put a charger to it. Their temp sensors are catching the ambient "air temp" not the center mass that is prolly still frozen solid like a thawing ham. Heated batteries are good provided the heater kicks in and stays on from 37ish F. Worthy of a try eh?
Wow! I always question channels that don't do teardowns. It's like the product 'future use' is more important than the quality control check. Please always do this!
Nice to see that there is a problem. I have not seen any teardown videos of this until now. Glad I did not buy one. Hopefully they will send you a new model with the proper fixes to the issues.
For the most part it worked well. With a couple of fixes it could be something I recommend for a "DC only power station". We'll see if they want to send me a second one or not!
I had a couple of their different batteries in the "save for later" list on amazon, they're definitely removed now. Even if they get you a decent unit later, the grinding of the serial numbers and terrible build quality suggests they are completely hands off from the manufacturing process, means it's very possibly to happen with any of their products.
If you only pull 75 watts or less from the 12v socket you should be safe. Don't short circuit the connection since there is no protection. The charge controller and USB ports seemed to work just fine.
if a product is of negative quality, then it deservers negative review. that is the problem with many tubers, who give a short one time review of a product, just to get more products sent to them for free. That's why I like channels like Jasonoid and Will Prowse, who actually test products multiple times and teardown to show what the parts inside are quality or not.
It's always better to do a proper tear down for products like this! When I saw 240 watts being pulled from that 12v socket during my testing...I was worried! I had to see what was happening on the inside!
Great work. There should be a search engine online so people can look up products and see if they really did pass CE, FC, RoHS etc. This one clearly didn't or they sent something that did with no intention of mass producing.
Got a 100AH Watt Cycle... Very happy! Lots of good feedback here for sure. Your reviews helped me pick a Bluetti AC180 and it is working great! Thanks.
Thank you for posting Jason, we really appreciate you! Makes me wonder what other labels are being slapped on the same batteries, just with different names.
Excellent presentation. Thank you. I think the tear downs are critical, along with your other detailed testing. Nothing wrong with being careful on the tear downs so that the unit can still be used or gifted to a friend, however, we need to know if the batteries have issues and are dangerous like this one.
I agree, tear downs are the only way to know what's inside these batteries. I try to open the units as carefully as possible so they do have some sort of use case down the road. No need to go chopping the lid off (unless that's the only option).
This company probably knew that this battery is not designed properly/safely. It's not rocket surgery to design a battery like this that's safe and reliable, the name-brand big players got safety nailed and it's one of the reasons that they charge so much more for their battery offerings, just remember, the manufacturer got to skimp somewhere to give you that low price. Thanks Jason for making this video, you probably save someone from a really bad day.
Great job at finding these dangerous issues. You're efforts help keep buyers safe. I'm curious to know if this battery is sold under other brands. I'm sure VTERUN is just a brand that buys the batteries in bulk from the actual manufacturer.
If the product was a prototype they could have easily made changes before selling it and no video would have been needed. In this case people had purchased it already and thats why I made the video.
I really wanted this battery for the features but had not pulled the plug on it yet. Thank you for the review and I will wait to see if they fix the problems.
You never know what they will send out to TH-cam influencers. I would think they would send you a functioning battery. I know the reason Will always buys a battery with his own money is to sidestep the company’s from sending out good functioning models and selling junk to everyone else . It’s nice that you give them a second chance.
Well so far with all of the products I have tested, I don't think I have gotten any cherry picked models. They all seem to be normal performance when watching other testing videos of the same product.
@Jasonoid you should coordinate with someone in another town away from you and have them order under all different info from you and then when you get the upgrade you can open them both and see if they still sold the other person the poorly designed one still after claiming they are immediately addressing future sales.
Yes, I like the teardown. If I may say so, I believe negative reviews are critical for consumer protection. TH-camrs tend to post only positive reviews, which I think is a mistake. If, as you always say, you are never told what to say in your review, then if you have something negative to say, please say it. It helps us as consumers when you do. Thanks.
I stopped reviewing junk on my channel awhile ago. When you avoid reviewing junk you rarely have to post a fully negative video. Sure, there are pros and cons but nothing like this. I was surprised on what I found with this battery!
Great concept, poor execution! I guess the 18 gauge wire is the fuse! Because the concept is so good, i hope that you can review the update for this product. Thanks for reviewing, and that new B&K electronic load tester is over the top!
LOL... @ the 18 AWG being the fuse! No joke! I've been super happy with that load tester so far. It's a beast 💪 Just discharged the Pecron E1000lfp DC output last night, I got 90% of the rated capacity.
This company made a very smart move. Made a battery that’s super low priced to get the name out and get it reviewed. And upgrade it to a better quality product after poor reviews start coming in. They made money on the original product, to further their R&D and design. They established fast communication, good will effort for customer service and if the updated version checks all the boxes, they are the defacto leader in low priced batteries. But one question here is : is this a battery or a DC power station ?
They certainly misled customers until they were caught. Advertising GradeA cells but not actually using them? They also had an unsafe battery design with improper wiring and fuses. Their reputation is probably destroyed.
Would be interesting to see a test on one of these self-heating batteries adding extra temp censors all over the cells and seeing if they all get above 0 before charging. There is a lot of mass in a 100ah battery to warm up, my guess is a good % of the cells don't get above 0c before charging starts causing damage. Especially if they stick the temp sensor to the outside of the 4 cells as many appear to do.
Well during the tear down I noticed that the heater pad was on the bottom and the temp sensor was on the top of the battery. I think thats the proper way to have the heaters and temp sensors setup.
@@Jasonoid Yeah that does sound decent enough actually. I would still want the setting to be up near 10-15c before charging started. Everyone is always in a rush these days.
You're not throwing them under the bus, you're calling them out for lying to their customers and putting out a dangerous product. They are only offering to do all this because they got caught. Bottom line is this company can never be trusted. They might fix it for a while and then go back to making second rate products once this blows over.
You're very lucky.... I've seen "12v /100ah" batteries which were found to have only one cell. The rest of the battery casing was filled with gravel 😂🤣
Thank you again Jason!! ! Any rec. for an inexpensive stand alone LiFePo4 capacity tester? My Victron gear is all tied up. Might be adding two more batteries soon. Of the 4 Chin's I have I'm glad I tested as one was bad. Bought via Walmart and they handled the return shipping,
DC electronic loads are very expensive. You could use one of these simple units. They work well up to 15 amps: amzn.to/4gzQbmP You could also use an inline shunt like I used to in my battery testing, like the Victron smart shunt.
I would agree with you on giving companies a second chance at fixing their product however they intentionally scratched off the QR code so that no one could see what the cells were. Again, that’s intentionality misleading not just shotty workmanship.
@Jasonoid I saw another review by another channel.. warned people.. and gave Link to your channel. Your a good soul.. God bless. So many don't do test downs?? Use to be the normal? Me personally 1 out 4 product's bad seen polarity reversed! Bad solders joint's.. you name it. Lol only have your word and don't break for nobody! God bless
Not defending it but a lot of 12V DC plugs do have fuses in them now. So that should be extra protection. Also an internal 15 amp fuse is going to be awful as if you blow it how do you replace it?
I advised they use 12awg wire and a 20 amp fuse, they label the output as 15 amps or 180w. Hopefully that will keep people from going too high on the wattage.
If a Chinesium battery says it's rated for 100A continuous, I'll keep it under 50A at all times. A lot of times they're using 6 AWG inside, and even 4 AWG is pushing your luck for long periods at 100A. I also keep Chinesium inverters under 75% max load at all times.
Sounds like they need to end making the silly attachments. Sounds like the 12v battery charger addition to the battery, with the flimsy wire, was the issue, and not the actual battery. What about the battery itself, like one VTERUN without the USB/12v Battery connection/and the Solar charge controller.
I'm not able to find it at the moment. They may have been hoping Jason wouldn't post the video until they sent him a repaired unit. Probably had somebody monitoring his channel and took down listing's when they realized he posted. I also may very well have just not found the listing
I had a VTERUN Alpha 2000 Portable Power Station that caught fire in my office. Once i got it out of my office I put it outside and turned it on again. It was a pretty wild show with fire and sparks! The company never made good on it. They literally ignored all my phone calls and emails. You would have thought they would be trying to help to avoid a lawsuit. So their warranty means nothing.
Interesting. But I would be willing to bet that the "low temp" cutoffs and "restarts" are faulty in 99-100% of all battery packs. NO 2nd CHANCE !! First: this is not only a bad design but a dangerous design that shows no respect of basic Lithium battery engineering. Don´t know what is more dangerous... deliberate profit driven motives or lack of education ? SECOND : destroying the QR Code with a dremel tool is a clear sign of bad intentions!! THIRD : And all covered up by losing the warranty if people open THEIR battery. I would N E V E R E V E R buy a product from a company with such business practices
Thank you for your feedback! I do think if they continue to make products it's my responsibility to see what they changed and how it's made. I definitely won't pressure anyone to making any future purchases!
Common sense says NEVER draw more than, or expect more than 10 amps out of a 12v car outlet. You just intentionally ruined a good battery. And you KNEW the size of the wire before you pulled 25 AMPS thru it.
18 AWG wire on a 12v socket? You use common sense... No fuse or current protection? You use common sense... Marketed to have Grade A cells but actually uses junk cells? You use common sense...
@@chasmarischen4459 I'm just doing what any ignorant person would do, connect in a device and try to power it... That Bestek 300w inverter is a high seller product on Amazon and comes with a 12v plug to power it. Anyone who has no clue about electricity could do the same.
Because I typically avoid garbage products in the first place not to waste my viewers time. I don't review crap products, this one just happened to be that way.
Totally destroyed their credibility. Nobody will buy this crap. I imagine they will just close-up shop soon and start selling batteries under a different (stupid) name.
Always a bit dodgy though since they "could" send you a doctored "new" version that doesn't necessarily reflect the product line. Good on you for calling them out, nonetheless. I had a similarly bad experience with BTRPower. Crap company. No kidding, I had one go bad at 15 months and when I tried to get it replaced under warranty, they changed the website during the course of our conversation saying that the warranty was only 1 year, not 2. I had screen capped it though, so they didn't have much of an argument and eventually replaced the battery. "caveat emptor" may be Latin, but I swear, it was invented for doing business with China.
Wow.... It's sad to hear about these experiences. I definitely will question if they sent me a doctored version or not. Maybe I'll buy one as well to compare the one they will send me and one from their warehouse! LOL
Negative reviews save lives. Keep up the good work.
12v sockets like that are rated for 10A. Its amazing to me he was able to get 25A out of it and obviously no fuse.
The 12v socket in my Accord is rated for 180w, the 12v socket in my truck is rated for 240w.

I see two listing's for this battery on amazon. Both Sold & shipped by VTERUN- apparently not discontinued.
Correct, nothing has changed at this point.
@Jasonoid they are not handling this as well as Will's find with the Wattcycle.
@@grindychum I just hope someone let's the other channels know about the battery's issues!
I'm not able to find it at the moment. They may have been hoping Jason wouldn't post the video until they sent him a repaired unit. Probably had somebody monitoring his channel and took down listing's when they realized he posted. I also may very well have just not found the listing
@@JoshuaYearry listing is in the video description if you want to look at it
30.00 refund if you bought this battery? WTF? I guess that is what a persons life is worth these days! Strike three and your out!👍
Someone sent me their email they got from Vterun... they didn't even mention the 12v socket issue LOL, just the battery grade problems.
Wow! What do you think caught fire on the inside? Did it fully burn or just smoke up?
Great video as always.Jason , this would be a great battery if they upgrade the cells and the wiring
I agree! With grade A cells and an upgraded 12v socket wiring, it would be pretty awesome!
I wonder where they were made. Crap for sale.
All I know is that the factory that made this product tried to get away with pure garbage!
@@Jasonoid Well said ! Jasonoid but then some ppl do not have common sense !
@@chasmarischen4459 I'm just doing what any ignorant person would do, connect in a device and try to power it... That Bestek 300w inverter is a high seller product on Amazon and comes with a 12v plug to power it. Anyone who has no clue about electricity could do the same.
I don't get it at all. Why would you not want to do a negative review on something that's negative? It is what it is.
Because I typically avoid garbage products in the first place not to waste my viewers time. I don't review crap products, this one just happened to be that way.
Solen battery lol😂
Solen indeed.
Totally destroyed their credibility. Nobody will buy this crap. I imagine they will just close-up shop soon and start selling batteries under a different (stupid) name.
Well, if I see a product with a similar design I'll have to investigate!
what the heck lol
what the heck indeed!
LOL
