    They shower stall is actually modular. its one piece that is built seperately from the room and dropped in. Another vintage Sleep Inn feature.

    I stayed at this exact hotel on my last day in Virginia last year. Very pleased with it.

    Very nice room, I love the retro lights.

      +Daniel28021991 They do have a certain charm to them. Management replied to my TripAdvisor review and said they were getting ready to renovate. I hope they find a way to keep those lights, but give them a less dated look.

      +Daniel28021991 Just checked the website. Looks like they kept the lights :) www.choicehotels.com/media/eBrochure/highres-gallery/VA/VA059/VA059B2.JPG

    There's a residence in & Hampton at the same hotel but I forgot the state & city where it's at. But it's really nice how they share the lobby and building

      Won't be anymore since Hampton is now a Hilton property.

    They have actually built an outlet behind the hotel. I have gone to those outlets, very nice addition to add on to the area

    Dual branded hotels is pretty common with Choice.. I have seen IHG and Hyatt do it as well.

    Not a bad room. Yeah, I would bring up the wallpaper with management, but for the most part, looks pretty good.

    Sleep inn is a lower end property, but I don't know why they make their hotels look so dated in terms of decor. There's one I went to for a meeting that was constructed in 2010, but it looked a lot like this one. A MainStay Suites was later built onto one side of it.

    I don't know if you hold the camera very high when you take these videos, or what, but that peep hole is very low. That thermostat on the wall was either for a previous unit, or it may be hooked up strictly as a thermometer, so the unit can get a more active read, but considering the obvious age difference judging by the aesthetics and brand, I assume not. I stayed at a Days Inn in Pittsburgh that had the exact same layout as this hotel, must have been a previous hotel before Days Inn. As far as that "hybrid" hotel system, I am not sure how familiar you are with the 700 Building in Richmond (that had the Touch Sensitive system) but that building was gutted for a Hampton Inn/Homewood Suite hybrid, and here in Fredericksburg there (was) a Howard Johnson's/Knights Inn hybrid... until the Howard Johnson's part was demolished for a gas station (I have included a link to a picture I have taken of the demolition, you can see the sign which still indicates both Howard Johnson's and Knights Inn)

    I like how these older Sleep Inn motels are styled, looks quite European in my opinion.

    • @TheElevatorChannel
      @TheElevatorChannel  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JoshCraver9000 It's a very practical layout that uses space efficiently. Just the color scheme and wood paneling everywhere that make it look a bit dated.

    The Quality inn there seems to be a Lot nicer. But it is about $40 more a night

      +pug Williams I noticed that as well. They actually renovated the Sleep Inn side since my stay. www.choicehotels.com/media/eBrochure/highres-gallery/VA/VA059/VA059B2.JPG

    -I think the Wyndam brand does the 2 in 1 motel thing as well. I remember staying in a Days Inn/Super 8 combo(I was in Days inn) and also a Super 8/Howard Johnson combo. (Stayed in Super 8.)
    -Yeah, dated but still really nice. (Certainly beats both that hairy Magnuson place with the hair in the bed ,as well as that Howard Johnson with 99 problems.)

      +MGIII Interesting. I know of many cases where owners will build a lower-end and higher-end hotel side-by-side (usually 2 franchises in the same hotel family, like Wyndham). But I've never seen the buildings physically attached and sharing a front desk before. And yeah, Norfolk/Virginia Beach seems to be a pretty sketchy area for cheaper hotels. Back when TripAdvisor used to do their lists of the top 10 dirtiest hotels, it always seemed like half of them were in Norfolk. I was actually just in the area last weekend and stayed at a place that gave the Howard Johnson a run for its money :)

      +The Elevator Channel Oh no...Worse then that Inn At The Peachtree's place?

      +The Elevator Channel Some European examples
      I have seen same family hotels sharing the same building (Novotel and Ibis, both Accor), rival chains in the same building (Novotel and Premier Inn, Ibis would be about the same level as Premier Inn) and budget and very budget (Holiday Inn Express and St Christopher's Inns [hostel]).
      One oddity in the UK is that a lot of hotels serve Costa Coffee (the biggest coffee shop chain in the UK with more than twice as many cafes as Starbucks) which is under the same ownership as Premier Inn which is towards the top of the budget hotel chains. A lot of the Costa delivery lorries (trucks in EN-US) advertise Premier Inn- not what I would have thought Hilton would want to have delivering to its hotels.

      @@TheElevatorChannel they tried to do that in my town with a former holidome (aka holiday inn) and it sucked
      some of the thugs from the lower end motel came over and trashed both and now,it a new hotel,but its never recovered from that and is a total dump now

    No offense: But I don't know how people stay in cheap older hotels. I am such a clean freak and design freak that I could not stay at cheap hotels.

      +pug Williams I used to have much higher standards than I do today (never stayed at anything below Hampton/Fairfield-class hotels). The most important thing with staying in lower-end hotels is to do a proper inspection before settling into the room. As long as the room is clean, I'm willing to accept dated decor to save $50+ per night.

      ***** I guess if you're staying on business than it's not such a big deal then if they are paying.

    • @disneyfan9099
      @disneyfan9099 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I don't stay in many hotels expect for Disney owned hotels so when I was on a road trip last summer I made sure to find a good hotel and I ended up staying at a Brand new Fairfield inn.

    That is odd - there's no way that decor is 21st century. I wonder if they got the soft furnishings from another property?
