I'll trade you...Middle of the Night, a song by Elley Duhé brought me here. This piano piece by Albeniz was infamously transcribed for guitar and renamed Leyenda and has been a staple of classical guitar repertoire since at least the beginning of Andres Segovia's stage career. I have played the classical guitar for the last 45 years and naturally I studied the transcription early in my career but through the years I have listened to recordings and watched countless players perform Asturias (Leyenda). The song by Elley Duhé (Middle of the Night) Is based on this piece and it is intentional. I just needed to hear the original piano version after hearing Duhé's 'Middle' instead of the tired guitar version, that's how I got here. I hope you enjoy the song if you should decide to listen, she's quite the vocalist and yes I will check out the film or the very least the soundtrack.

I took a masterclass with professor Fernando in AUS the UAE in 2015 and it was the most intense on-my-toes lesson I've ever had. And I've been playing for 9 years. A true master!

No matter the instrument, this is a beautiful piece of music. I looked at this as an alternative to mastering the guitar TAB. Seeing this has convinced me to persevere with the guitar version. This will be tricky but nowhere near as tough as trying the piano version.

It is possible to encapsulate a likewise feeling with this piece on piano. But then, in my opinion, it needs to be played slower, so you can take the time to really capture what this song is about. Nontheless, this man's playing is extraordinary. Certainly something I cannot reproduce at this moment :p

This is so utterly spectacular that of course I have subscribed to your channel. I very much hope there are many other examples of your playing to look forward to! I've just gone through many guitar performances of Asturias here on TH-cam, though I knew it had been written for piano - so I thought I must hear the original piano version - and then I discovered this video. No wonder the audience cried out in appreciation at the end! And the piano does convey various remarkable ... effects which are not possible on the guitar. As people say nowadays, awesome. Dear friend, Asturias is a huge ‘quejío’ (complaint), and probably imagined through foot flamenco dancing full of character... I don’t think it is a piece for sleeping in guitar or piano. Sorry. Maybe better a Chopin Nocturne for that? Thank you for the feedback 😃 greetings!
Muchisimas gracias, señor Pérez :-). Since that's about the extent of my Spanish, I will continue in English. I'm currently trying to learn this piece and I'm struggling, because I just can't get the staccato repetition on the D-key under control at the required tempo. After a few bars I tend to play it irregularly, or too loud. But I'll keep practising :-). Incidentally: I don't agree with those posters who say you are playing too quickly. This piece needs a Flamenco feel, as you stated already. You won't get that playing with a metronome set to "allegro ma non troppo" (which some classical pianists seem to do). For those people trying to play this: you need some speed in the first passages (without getting too loud, except for the sforzando chords) and you need to slow down dramatically afterwards, only to pick up speed at the reprise towards the end. I always try thinking about a spanish guitar player sitting in the shade at midday in summer and looking out across the land of Asturias baking under the blistering sun, that seems to help for the slow passages ;-).

well, it WAS intended by Albeniz to be played on a piano. The guitar adaptation doesn't do the original music justice.

No wonder the audience cried out in appreciation at the end! And the piano does convey various remarkable ... effects which are not possible on the guitar. As people say nowadays, awesome. Because your performance literally IS awesome.
LOL My first time hearing this famous piece on guitar here on piano -- which I understand to be the original -- and it strikes me as exactly the same song, even working /better/ on guitar ... Impressive pianist! Nice.

Slow down. This sounds angry, on the guitar it sounds like butter almost. Very smooth and calming. Something you can fall asleep to.

Dear friend, Asturias is a huge ‘quejío’ (complaint), and probably imagined through foot flamenco dancing full of character... I don’t think it is a piece for sleeping in guitar or piano. Sorry. Maybe better a Chopin Nocturne for that? Thank you for the feedback 😃 greetings!

I'm currently trying to learn this piece and I'm struggling, because I just can't get the staccato repetition on the D-key under control at the required tempo. After a few bars I tend to play it irregularly, or too loud. But I'll keep practising :-).
Incidentally: I don't agree with those posters who say you are playing too quickly. This piece needs a Flamenco feel, as you stated already. You won't get that playing with a metronome set to "allegro ma non troppo" (which some classical pianists seem to do).
For those people trying to play this: you need some speed in the first passages (without getting too loud, except for the sforzando chords) and you need to slow down dramatically afterwards, only to pick up speed at the reprise towards the end. I always try thinking about a spanish guitar player sitting in the shade at midday in summer and looking out across the land of Asturias baking under the blistering sun, that seems to help for the slow passages ;-).
