    Thank you for this video.
I did a similar modification with a Dragon Touch action camera that had a broken lens and was surprised at how good the shots came out, other than the blue aberrations, these lenses you can get for under $10 are great.
You can have fun crafting and filming for relatively little money.

No problem, it's a niche video to make but really fun to play around with. If you can find an ir filter you can get some cheap lenses from old disposable cameras that are really good quality for what they are. Lots of fun experiments to do now.

@@WaveWasters Niche videos in particular are often exciting.
I'll explore the idea of lenses from disposable cameras, it sounds interesting.
I would have to have an IR filter, the base is there.
You can do really crazy things with the little cameras, I have a 50mm Younguo connected to it via two stacked adapters, it looks strange but the image quality and range are great.

@@Autopoort I got my ir filter from an old digital point and shoot camera. As long as the sensor size is close to the same it should work. I've also seen them on Amazon for $10.

@@WaveWasters Thats a good idea, i think a have an old defective Panasonic point and shoot in my house, it could be perfect, i must just find it 🙂

The subject in the lens is what made the video. Nice surfing Erin 😉👍 Cheers, John

@@funafter5081 Thanks so much John! Was a day that didn't look so great or convincing but I ended up catching a few fun ones with a friend!

Excellent! That was a pretty serious hack of the camera Matt. We’ll done! Why doesn’t GoPro do this themselves? It would make their cameras so much more useful. I guess they want to keep their cameras compact and waterproof as I don’t imagine this one is waterproof anymore. But, with their manufacturing technology, I’m sure they could keep it waterproof? ( the zoom part might be tricky though ) Very cool video. Enjoy the results 👍😃 Cheers, John

Its an old gopro so it wasn't waterproof to start but its definitely not going to fit in the waterproof case now lol. My guess why they don't is there is not a lot demand for it. Once you put a zoom lens on most people want a dslr with a shallow depth of field. Its also really hard to focus with this lens on the tiny screen, maybe some day they will make one though.

I always wanted a zoom lens for an action camera. I thought its as easy as getting an adapter but I guess the focals doesnt add up.

Depending on the lens you want to add it could work without as much modding. Lenses with longer flange distances than the m12 lenses would be easier to adapt. Big thing is finding a lens with an Ir filter or finding a separate ir filter for the lens.

I have this type of little zoom lens but couldn't get it to work on an SJcam 4000, just get a blurry mess, maybe I'm getting the distance from the sensor wrong. My lens has an aperture that I keep wide open, if that matters. I gave up and now use that lens as a handheld microscope, it's pretty powerful when you look through the wrong end.

Yeah it sounds like the distance to the sensor is off, maybe try unscrewing the lens a little at a time, after you screw it all the way in. My little zoom lens came with a spacer on the threads with that off I was able to get it to focus. Also try using the zoom to see if different ranges work better than others. On mine there is a little bit when all the way zoomed in that doesn't focus. Have you tried any other lenses?

Could I buy a modded gopro from you so I can mount my c mount lenses on it? The hacking seems wayyyy too complex for me lol

This is the only spare one I have, not sure I want to get into selling them either lots could go wrong with that. It was scary to do but not too bad if you handy with diy projects. There are kits from back bone to mod gopros that might be easier but they are pricey. They also sell pre modded cameras for c-mount lenses.
