The Art of Jeet Kune Do

  • Jeet Kune Do was inspired by many different arts but its core principles (for Lee anyways) was from Wing Chun such as the Centerline Theory, the economy of motion, the straight punch, and strong offensive defense. This is not to say that he didn't incorporate other arts. He was a fanatic of boxing as well as Savate, TKD, Muay Thai, and Grappling. But in my opinion everything he incorporated was to revert back to his Wing Chun as the trapping range of the art was his bread and butter. Again this is not to say he couldn't do anything else. This video also explains that what Lee did in the movies is nothing like what he would do in a real fight (Duh!) like what all the Bruce Lee haters say and base their opinions on. Anyways enjoy a short brief history of JKD!

    You know there are so many blind martial art masters before, but because of Bruce Lee's JKD it opened the gate for martial arts evolution from traditional martial arts to realistic martial arts.

    Actucally, some Kungfu masters in china already had agreeded that boxing, shuijiao both are efficient unarmed figthing styles in the late 1920. Nanking Central Guoshu Institute syllabus was heavily emphasisd on boxing、shuijiao、 bayonet fencing. Meanwhile the wutang, shaolin stuffs were just a very minor stuff.
    After the WWII, dude to the popularity of the martial arts Fantasy novels, dramas and films. The CMA returned back to the mysterious dancing.
    Bruce Lee and Dan both are genius and pioneers of combat.

    I agree with Dan. Why should martial art teachers/seniors hide it? If they have higher lvl stuff, they should bring it out and research it with the trainees and others. The only reason for it to be secretive is because they are probably insecure of their own abilities.

      Ironic considering I watch a dojo master who opened up a grappling and martial arts dojo here in Montana say that about Dan. He said that Dan spent most of the time storytelling and there was barely any teaching and was advising students to NOT fight and rather have someone protect them. And it seemed like he was hiding alot of techniques as well. This was couple years back. I think the powers gone to Dan's head so he thinks he's hot shit. Made me wish Bruce was alive so he could teach us all the source of it from the man who created the source.

    Yep Bruce Lee gave birth to MMA. If he seen MMA, it'd probably bring a tear to his eye. He wanted to teach effectiveness and practicality, by taking what is "good" and "useful" and throwing the other stuff out. Exactly what MMA does. And like MMA, includes a lot of western boxing. I believe it was Mohammad Ali that Bruce was inspired by in that respect. Dan's a cool guy. My cousins learned Tae Kali Do in one of his schools, in Oxnard, where the majority of us Filipinos live lol.

      I heard traditionally forms were taught last after the individual techniques were learned. The forms were meant for coordination and developing fluidity. I don't get why instructors today teach forms right away.

    None of it was hidden they wanted us to realize it was there right in front of our face that's why they kept telling us about your life energy and flow like water if you were skilled to the point of Bruce all doors were posable there never is a end I mean look at Bruce playing ping pong with numb chucks with basic kung-fu skills most all things is possible

  • @blakewilks8234
    @blakewilks8234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe that most of these new age fighting styles are exactly what the Kung fu master's already had abilities to use if wanted no need to say any of this is not same skill all wing Chun is based on a fast block and attack even if the flow of energy is not in the same form as the style usually is performed bet they knew all those nifty so called tricks that was shown I mean come on they master's of older times these skills have been around for 1000s of years I think somwerein time we. Became full of shit all this applies in Kung fu regardless some humans are to impatient to fully grasp this also was the master's full understanding anyway from the beginning sorry Bruce you are a very good super actor never knew the story about your training and there training till now age 35 these skills of bringing in other styles of fighting known today as jeet Bruce said as his style is false these abilities were and always be available since the beginning and Bruce knew that so in a way what he did was show the world the value of Kung fu's true value the flow of energy like water be apart of the system and should not have to take any extra time adjusting to others will or adapt be one with the universe just as flowing water.
