    Mark and John
    Tip :
If you have a real good mess of a Hive (random Cross Comb) if you can lift the Box in all its entirety. And under Super it with a Deep Box of fully Drawn Comb. Once the Bees have all gone and migrated down to the proper Comb, you can then add Super above the Deep and remove that random Box of Mess. Either melt it down. Or spread that wax about the Walls and Frames : they will clean up that spare Honey. And make that "Mess" it into a "Bait Hive" to lure in a Swarm thats more directed to do proper Honey Comb next time !
    Hope this helps. 😎

Sometimes random Comb is just to messy to save : if you cut it out and try and Rubber Band it back straight, alas the Bees will Drown in all that drippy unhydrated Nectar.
Better to make the Bees move it to another Box, and then remove the offending one.Sorted.👍

The common saying in our area is "A swarm in May is worth a bale of hay, a swarm in July isn't worth a fly." We have caught swarms in both months.

Turning honey and nectar upside down will all leak out and make a terrible mess. I saw a gal did a cutout and put the comb upside down, sadly it wasn't pretty.

    • @AwesomeFish12
      @AwesomeFish12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I saw an experiment in a video turning brood frames upside down and they used them like normal despite the angle being wrong, but showed a clear preference for the frames that were the right way up. Cells are angled downwards to prevent spillage, as soon as they uncap an upside down honey cell, it starts leaking and they have to clean it up and move it. Could go wrong, or it could work. Definitely an interesting idea if it does work.

A swarm in May is worth a load of hay; a swarm in June is worth a silver spoon; but a swarm in July is not worth a fly, a proverbial bee-keepers' saying, mid 17th century; meaning that the later in the year it is, the less time there will be for bees to collect pollen from flowers in blossom. Down Under : Translated Version: My style 🙃
A Swarm in September is a Red Ember ! 😡
A Swarm in October is a Beekeepers keeper. 👍
A Swarm in November is a No hoper. 🥺
      Or something like that !
      I'll let myself out. 🤭

I was based in South Australia for x1 Year in 1980's. So I guess September was (May) October was (June) and November was (July) re Swarm Season.
Guess if you were on the Coast, or Inland at Bush Bee Man's place. . . Bees will be Bees at different times !
Guess this Rhyme was created in Blighty. And applies to Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 as well.
A Swarm in May is worth some Hay. 🚜
A Swarm in June is worth a Silver Spoon! 🥄
      A Swarm in July isn't worth a Fly. 🪰
I had my 1st Swarm on May 31st ! And my 2nd on June 5th (a Year and a Day since my first use of my DIY Bait Hive, it caught my first ever Swarm back on 4th
      June 2022. 🤗)
Guees I am catching another Beeks Incoming
      Swarms from at least
x4 Miles away from me. Cheers Mate, to sending out to me "Free Bees."🥳 Shame you lost out on the Honey (and probably some Money too.) 🙄
      Tip :
A Bait Hive needs to be a Minimum of x41 Litres in Internal Capacity.
      A x5 over x5 Nuc Stack beats a x10 Frame Box.
Guess that inner High Chamber Void feels more like a Hollow Tree Trunk ! Add only a couple of old Brood Comb Frames to the upper Box : they need incoming flying space to crawl onto those added Comb. Once the Swarm settles in and anchors (doesn't fly off !)
You can add more Frames into the empty void. I like to do a 'drawn Comb' then a 'Starter Strip' New Frame next, then on every other.
That way you get New Wax Comb Frames Built fast !
Swarms are Wax Makers on a mission. 😎
Oh yes, don't forget some Lemon Grass Oil as a "Lure" to replicate the Queen Smell.
They will sure fly in and find you no problem. 👍
