This thing reminds me a lot of the Fireball 100. But with the Inferno, you get el34 tubes, and a separate EQ for each channel. Fireball has a presence knob, which I don't really need, because I always run an EQ pedal. The Inferno did sound very close to the 800 to me. But so did the Fireball. Thanks for another great review, I liked your little demo song too!
That is one of the best sounding built-in gain boosts that I have ever heard! I wasn't too excited about the non-boosted high gain, but with moderate gain and the boost on, awesome!!!

Through my Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro Marshall still sound more organic, more alive. Engl is little bit dry and muddy in comparison. So here I prefer Marshall. Great work Euge as always!

I get a feeling that this is like a more streamlined Savage. Inferno doesn't have as many channels or buttons, which can be preferable for some players, since the Savage has so many features that it can give you option paralysis.

Euge, love your channel! I know you had a video comparing some of the other Engls, but from what you remember, how would you compare the Inferno to the Retro and Artist Edition? They all seem to be a bit similar but have some differences. I’m hoping to find one with a nice clean channel and a big sounding crunch with a good but tight low end and good feel for leads.

I guess it has become a signature style for your videos, but I just wanted to suggest bringing up the blacks, as in the pictures (where you show the closeup on the amp settings). Another awesome video! Incredible playing and tone. Sounds like there is some kind of room reverb applied to your high gain rhythm tone, really comes out when you mute at 13:40. Is that a plugin in your DAW or part of the load box?
Thanks! Can’t remember but usually I have a tiny amount of Softube’s Tsar Reverb’s small room rev blended in so that the viewers would get a bit of similar room vibe I have when playing.
Don’t know why Marty don’t have a signature Friedman amp 😂. But man the technology in today’s amps are impressive. But still hard to beat those old school amps. Will or have you tried the Soldano SLO models?

sounds great. Has a great capacity for the mid-forward Marshall sound. The mids are bordering on being overly strident, but still great. Have you checked out the engl retro-tube head? It has a similar tone shift that boosts the mids into the Schenker zone. This is all very 2205/2210 inspired. Which was a pivotal amp for early Megadeth. Great demo.
I own an engl retro 100 head for the past 7 years. Its impossible to find almost any quality reviews online so id be delighted to see you give it a test drive and see how it matches up to some of your favorite amps. Great content as always btw!
To me personally this amp sounds like Judas Priest. When you get the clean channel it has some Desert Planes vibes Clean with high gain and maybe gain boost, it just sounds Rocka Rolla The dirty channel sounds like the "basic" Judas' sound, basically Britsh Steel And the dirty channel with overdrive has that Painkiller vibe I know the sound isn't the same, but I don't why it had this feeling to me!
Hi Euge. I really need your opinion. Will this Engl Marty Friedman be enought for 80's metal (Dokken, Ratt, Scorpions). Or do i need to get a Marshall or Marshall clone, Friedman, Ceriatone?
It’s all in the hands of the player so the only one who knows the answer is the player him/herself 👌. I could play anything with this amp since the amp just amplifies what it gets.
Sometimes this one can sound a bit "harsh" in a way. Do you think that is the EL34 power stage? I have a Fireball 100 and it doesn't have that harsh upper mid-range that I am hearing here.

ENGL amps, to me, sound like meh Marshalls. It sort of sounds good, the Marshall vibe is there but there’s something missing from the tone. Upper mids? Presence? Don’t know.
a jcm 800 takes a guitar with a high-output microphone and overdrive pedals to boost even more, otherwise it's really not suitable for metal... for rock, yes, but no more. I love the tone of the engl stock the tone is sick and there is a lot of gain but if you want marshall mids you add an eq pedal in the loop and that's it and you don't destroy your clean channel unlike add overdrive pedal to marshall ... short for me engl is superior in everything

Yeah they have their own vibe. I’m more of a Marshall guy but I’ve liked some ENGLs quite a lot 👌.

I gotta say the on-board boost sounded better than the SD-1. The SD-1 worked better with the JCM did it did the Engl for me.

It sounds bit harsh to my taste without overdrive engaged in front. Personal favorite of mine is from Engl was old Powerball.

in the manual they recommend to keep trebles at 5 or less to avoid harshness.
