- This port of Super Mario Brothers 3 for the GBA is pretty solid overall. I like how they minimized the HUD to maximize screen real estate for the game. My only complaint with this is that the music is noticeably down sampled and sounds kinda bad. I'm sure that's just what they were working with on GBA. This is a no-commentary playthrough, enjoy the game without my banal yapping!

They really polished this game. I only recently saw the NES version. The GBA version is the one I am accustomed to. This is pure nostalgia.
It also shows Nintendo improved on the already smooth Super Mario All-Stars engine for the Advance versions of 2 USA and 3 as well as with World and Yoshi's Island.
The Super Mario All Stars version on Super Nintendo is far superior.
@@HolyRomanEmperor90 Why is it far superior ? I think the All stars on SNES sucks. The music sounds so hollow with that typical crappy SNES sound and SNES is my favorite console. I prefer all the NES versions. NES soundchip to me trumps SNES with that pure thump.

I had the Super Mario all stars game on the Super Nintendo. It was Super Mario 1, Super Mario 2, Super Mario 3 and The Lost Levels all in 1 game. That brings back good memories.

This game is just such an improvement from the previous versions of this game.
Yeah, you can tell that Nintendo was improving on the already smooth Super Mario All-Stars engine for its revamp of 3, and adding all sorts of new stuff on top of the classic game, to make for a really great experience.

I remember playing this version. Graphically, its a great overhaul with little touches here. The music is definitely downplayed but thats okay - this Is the same version from the Super NES Mario All Stars collection. I'd prefer this over the original one but this just me.

This was the only game I ever played on my Gameboy I had the entire cheat book and everything
Here's another classic game me & my bro used to play back in the day. Fact of Interest: We always enjoyed the end courses featuring Lakitu whether it was this game's GBA version, the SNES version, or even the ORIGINAL. For him and his troops always managed to give EXTRA points & 1-UP's to our scores.
That was some mad skills with that frog suit, fam. I remember how badasss I felt beating the Fortress with it since it had all the water, but you did a bunch more levels with it! Kudos!

Did anyone notice that in the snes version of SMB3, Mario and Luigi were bare handed.
I'd say SMB3 and SMW are almost equal. Smb3 was definitely experimenting with new ideas so some things didn't end up perfectly. But it's variety of different worlds still feels fresh. Smw feels a bit more polished but without as much fun variety.

Has this game on my grey game boy advance SP when I was younger :) though, in school I brought it one day and some kid tried to steal it from me. He had the controller side and I had the screen side and we were pulling on it trying to get it away from eachother.... The entire thing was broken into two pieces. Still upset about that day, the most trouble he got was the teacher sitting him in timeout, never did get a new game boy.
My friends I’ll never forget world 8 that blacked out part was fucking hard especially the mini boss castle just before bowser that was a ballache

Answer me this: At the end of Level 4, the letter from the Princess says that the thief who stole the whistle is at the east side of the sand dunes. The sand dunes were in Level 2. It's kind of late to tell us that. Why would they not have put that note at the end of Level 1?

Two years ago I bought Mario All Stars for my Wii and it includes Mario 3, it has passed so much time and I still can't beat the goddamn game

A really good handheld(Advance) and a great game. It came out just too late. I remember thinking the original Gameboy as being almost unplayable. I could never tell what was on the screen. I mean at least it was better than Tiger handhelds. But still when this came out light years after Sega Game Gear it was everything I wished Gameboy could have been. It did have a really good selection of NES classics.

People talk about how this was a piece of their childhood. For me this literally WAS my childhood. I had a game boy advance with ONE game: this one. That was the only console I ever had until I was thirteen and got an Xbox. This was my entire life for a long time.

Why does the music sound like SNES on a 32-bit device when the SNES is 16-bit?!
Good question. Even main Processor word size has little to do with the sound chip (you can drive a full blown sound synthesizer with a 8 bit micro), and the GBA had an upgraded CPU compared to the SNES (~16.7 MHz ARM on top tier GBA instead of a ~3.5 MHz Ricoh 5A22) the GBA doesn't have a dedicated sound synthesizer coprocessor, the SNES does (Nintendo S-SMP) so the developers were left with wave stream mixing aka DirectSound, bad tone generators and with 32MB of cartridge memory size there is not so much you can do to pack a bunch of high quality wave files that as a whole does the same job as the SNES sound chip, although the GBA included the original GB sound hardware, as most know, it consist of 8 bit sound channels (blips).
Because Gameboy Advance was just a smaller Super Nintendo =)
