Exactly! They say Twisty cant be on here since he was just on American Horror Story 3 weeks ago yet the zombie clown had a 30 second part and didnt even kill anyone that we know of , and yeah I agree Pennywise never scared me , and the movie "It" is really overrated.

He is unpredictable and homicidal. Even mob bosses and serial killers fear the guy. So yeah, he's scary. He is not meant to be a horror movie villain, but if he was we've already seen a lot of those on this list and they are pretty generic. He is the kind of scary that people that fear almost nothing would be terrified of in real life. Hell, Batman is pretty much unfazeable, but for a guy who fights superhuman beings and doesn't hesitate to take on world destroyers like Darkseid the fact that he is wary and has some level of fear involved says a lot. He isn't the kind of jump scare horror slasher scary though in the comics he is pretty close to the latter. Just because the movies are PG-13 doesn't mean that conceptually he isn't a nightmare, Hannibal Lecter without the cannibalism and far less predictability. He is a thousand times worse than Captain Spaulding or silly aliens and generic horror killers ever could be. If he was a real person John Wayne Gacy would seem like a quirky hobbyist in comparison. Joker is awesome and as twisted as imaginable.

The little boy in Poltergeist was actually being choked by the clown toy. There was a malfunction and it was choking the actor super tightly. Steven Spielberg noticed at the last minute and saved him.
What's even scarier about the Joker is the fact that Gwynplaine, the character who inspired him, is his complete opposite. The Joker wants to spread anarchy and chaos for his own amusement. Gwynplaine just wants to live a happy life with his sweetheart, a blind girl named Dea, and share what little he has with those who are even less fortunate than him (which is saying a lot considering he's a clown in 18th century England).
And that's the sad part of the story--everyone either just laughs at Gwynplaine and takes him for nothing more than a clown or they're afraid of him and there's no reason to be. It's a great film and is up on TH-cam now. Conrad Veidt gave a wonderful performance in the role. I'd also recommend the original novel by Victor Hugo.

I've both worked part-time as a clown and seen actual professional ones do their thing. Not only are the real deal ones like in Cirque du Soleil incredibly talented performers, they're genuinely hilarious and amazing with thinking of funny stuff to do and say on the spot. I have a lot of respect for what they do as entertainers. That being said, I love being a clown for the sake of scaring people on Halloween. No dumb mask. Makeup is where it's at. I've both worked part-time as a clown and seen actual professional ones do their thing. Not only are the real deal ones like in Cirque du Soleil incredibly talented performers, they're genuinely hilarious and amazing with thinking of funny stuff to do and say on the spot. I have a lot of respect for what they do as entertainers. That being said, I love being a clown for the sake of scaring people on Halloween. No dumb mask. Makeup is where it's at. Grown men run from me shouting "oh shit oh fuck oh shit!" It's barrels of fun
