I think the idea is what scary clowns are the best. Not necessarily who is scarier but which scary clown is the best. Which the Joker could be considered scary as he is intimidating.

He isn't the kind of jump scare horror slasher scary though in the comics he is pretty close to the latter. Just because the movies are PG-13 doesn't mean that conceptually he isn't a nightmare, Hannibal Lecter without the cannibalism and far less predictability. He is a thousand times worse than Captain Spaulding or silly aliens and generic horror killers ever could be. If he was a real person John Wayne Gacy would seem like a quirky hobbyist in comparison. Joker is awesome and as twisted as imaginable.

Exactly! They say Twisty cant be on here since he was just on American Horror Story 3 weeks ago yet the zombie clown had a 30 second part and didnt even kill anyone that we know of , and yeah I agree Pennywise never scared me , and the movie "It" is really overrated.

What's even scarier about the Joker is the fact that Gwynplaine, the character who inspired him, is his complete opposite. The Joker wants to spread anarchy and chaos for his own amusement. Gwynplaine just wants to live a happy life with his sweetheart, a blind girl named Dea, and share what little he has with those who are even less fortunate than him (which is saying a lot considering he's a clown in 18th century England).
And that's the sad part of the story--everyone either just laughs at Gwynplaine and takes him for nothing more than a clown or they're afraid of him and there's no reason to be. It's a great film and is up on TH-cam now. Conrad Veidt gave a wonderful performance in the role. I'd also recommend the original novel by Victor Hugo.
I've both worked part-time as a clown and seen actual professional ones do their thing. Not only are the real deal ones like in Cirque du Soleil incredibly talented performers, they're genuinely hilarious and amazing with thinking of funny stuff to do and say on the spot. I have a lot of respect for what they do as entertainers. That being said, I love being a clown for the sake of scaring people on Halloween. No dumb mask. Makeup is where it's at. Grown men run from me shouting "oh shit oh fuck oh shit!" It's barrels of fun

I've never understood the fear of clowns. When I was a small child, my twin brothers each had a clown marionette/doll that I loved. 50 years later, they still have them. Of course I'm "frightened" (for the sake of movie enjoyment) of scary clowns, but regular clowns? Not so much. I love the movies "IT" and "Killer Klowns from Outer Space"!
I personally don't "hate" clowns, but when one of them is nearby I feel pretty uncomfortable. I don't know the exact reason why lots of people are scared as hell by clowns, but I think that the clowns' unmotivated and exaggerated happiness is the main reason. I feel like they're faking, their joy is forced and they hide something bad or evil behind that, even though I know it's not true. They are people, yet they act way different from normal people, and the feeling is like something is wrong with them. It's the ancient fear of what is different, that exists within the human beings since the mists of time. And the cinema didn't help people to overcome this fear, as you can see xD
When I was a kid they terrified me, and even now in my 40's they trigger a fear response and I really don't understand why. I'm not afraid of the unusual in-fact am drawn to it. However, I'm not afraid of spiders and don't understand why people freak out over these little critters. :)

To me, Pennywise is only scary during the first half of the movie. For me he just does to many funny things like "Kiss my fat boy" during the second half.

I've never understood the fear of clowns. When I was a small child, my twin brothers each had a clown marionette/doll that I loved. 50 years later, they still have them. Of course I'm "frightened" (for the sake of movie enjoyment) of scary clowns, but regular clowns? Not so much. I love the movies "IT" and "Killer Klowns from Outer Space"!
I personally don't "hate" clowns, but when one of them is nearby I feel pretty uncomfortable. I don't know the exact reason why lots of people are scared as hell by clowns, but I think that the clowns' unmotivated and exaggerated happiness is the main reason. I feel like they're faking, their joy is forced and they hide something bad or evil behind that, even though I know it's not true. They are people, yet they act way different from normal people, and the feeling is like something is wrong with them. It's the ancient fear of what is different, that exists within the human beings since the mists of time. And the cinema didn't help people to overcome this fear, as you can see xD

When I was a kid they terrified me, and even now in my 40's they trigger a fear response and I really don't understand why. I'm not afraid of the unusual in-fact am drawn to it. However, I'm not afraid of spiders and don't understand why people freak out over these little critters. :)
