Thank you for this video. I was considering the Canon XA-20 but I have very little experience. My current video is basically a toy Canon low-end but reliable consumer grade. You've convinced me that the XA-20 will take me as far as I want to go.
Dude, remember TTK is a Professional. All his gear is tax deductible including his cameras and guitars and amps etc. Which is good because that means his videos and audios are even better than before. So, thank Uncle Sam and Enjoy.
Excellent Video ! Great audio and video.... you got a really nice camcorder there... Just got a Canon HF-11 which is nice and works great but already see that I'm ready to move up to what you just bought. Unless something better comes out at about the same price I'm there ! Thanks again .... It was so good that I subscribed !
Since you've got a separate audio recorder there's no need to pipe it into your camera... just set it up on a tripod where it gets a good sound image, then record from wherever... put the audio back in during post-production. When I bought my XA-20 I got a free copy of Sony Vegas 12... look for those kinda deals. I got a used crossed-condenser mic (Rode NT4) for a deal... put it on a Rode mount, use the phantom power from the camera... I don't have a Zoom recorder. The NT-4 has 1/2" diaphragms, nice mic.
Thanks for the info..i film Native American hunting with primitive bows and arrows. I am looking at the Canon Xa20 what brand shotgun mic would you recommend. This is run and gun filming ...well run and bow filming. I just need to record great sound but keep it simple and light weight. Your advice would be appreciated.
Interesting - I recently bought the canon XA20 (and have had the zoom H4N for a while) - am hoping to add "live" video to an animated kids TV show I make for community stations in Australia. Another option for using the H4N is to use it as a dedicated device for recording all your audio (the reason it is so good is you can have multiple inputs and record 24bit 96khz with nice mic-pre's) rather than connecting to the camera for recording audio. You're spoilt for choice of course because the canon also has xlr inputs. You should try running your interview mic (or shotgun when you get one) into the H4N and compare with the audio quality from the canon. The pros (film/doc-makers) normally record audio and video separately and sync together later - which you seem to do anyway. By the way, what's the adapter to mount the H4N on the top of the canon?
Yes, I like your video :-) Great, to see also the Zooms. I have the R10 and H2rzoom, and they are really wonderful. And why did I come to this video? Because of the XA20.
Great video, I wish you was my uncle!!!! Can you record 2 hand held mics for interviewer and interviewee rather than passing 1 mic from person to person?
Kool video, but I was wondering if it was just me or everyone else noticed that the background was more focused then your face, were you sick on that day or something? Your face was sort of blurred comparing to your background. Thanks for the info, appreciated.
Background is certainly more in focus. Probably due to the the camera being set in auto-focus. I've experienced the same problem while filming. Either that or manual focus was off. Interesting vid tho. I've been looking into buying a Canon XA20.
that's really cool but too expansive for me. Wich camcoder can you suggest me Under 500$? i don't need a wi-fi, or good mic because is just for making music video. just need a good full hd. thanks!!
Just received my XA20, great quality, a LOt better than the XA10. BE AWARE: batterys from xa10 and HF series ( the bp-808, bp-809) WONT work on this camera. Just bought two more batterys (bp-820 and bp-827) for 250 euros :(
Well, Im not sure how they do it in Your State but here you get an attorney and file for a corporation, issue stock, hold a meeting name the board etc. Its kind of like playing business for real..hehe... THEN, you can make these purchases, IF APPROVED of by the BOARD, of the instruments that you need to do your job. Like Record music, play gigs etc. As long as you are Earning Money from those guitars you are a pro and need to incorporate and join the union for more gigs and jingles etc.
Great video! Can't wait to see some new footage with the new camera :D
Rock on! \m/

The zoom mics are nice. I'm sure the camera has the capability of lowing the audio gain

Very informative and easy to follow. Thanks
Good info and real feedback on what works.
Which camera caught Eddie Vanhalen at Namm 2013? The Q2 or Q3? Lucky you had someone recording !!

Makes more sense buying more bandwidth then buying hardware. Its like buyiny a ferrari to drive 55mph
Lol gopro lofinl. I couldn't spend that much on a camera that looks and feels like a toy
