@@davelogan9221 You seem strangely obsessed with capos. Using one allows one to use chord shapes that facilitate various hammer-ons and pull-offs which wouldn't sound as good with barre chords. Also, all strings, open and fretted, are sounding off metal frets and so are more uniform in tonality, which is why some guitar makers either make instruments with a "zero fret" feature or use brass nuts. In particular, lots of cool melodic patterns can be generated around a D shape (a particular bugaboo for you, evidently)... George Harrison, for instance, took advantage of that on Here Comes the Sun by capoing way up the neck. But then, what did Ian or George know compared to you.
Ian never gives himself enough credit for his amazing musical abilities.......trying to replicate what he does with a few simple chords on acoustic guitar is not easy.....
It’s odd that Ian said it would be disrespectful to bring out the odd former members for the 50th tour when he did just that for the 40th! When I saw them on the 40th tour Clive Bunker came on stage for a few tracks, and a brilliant drum duet with Doane Perry. I understand that Mick Abrahams appeared on some parts of that tour.
I seen Jethro Tull in Folkestone south England in 68, maybe it was 69, but before they became huge stars, we were all on Acid and we invited them back to our house but they never came. I was 20 or 21 years old.
Led Zeppelin ... haha ... Tull has way more and way better albums. Certainly LZ was popular at a time, but how often can you hear that whiny voice of Robert Plants and the boring lyrics. Garage band rock and roll.
So wrong in so many ways..Zepplin vs. Tull...The 68-71 JT was magical and Glenn/ Clive /Martin...Zep was a powerhouse of sound with acoustic magic also..totally different..
Tull had more folkish nonsense over the top Peter Pan tunes all in the key of D..for like 20 album's..Tull had 4 great albums '68-71..then poppey voice..no volume or subject matter.Martin still rock's his own band..kicks ass
Your an idiot to say Tull was greater than Zepplin..Zep did it all while Tull songs all in the key of D or capo..to fit Ian's poppey range vocally..Listen to Ramble on..Thats vocals pal..not poppey

@@c.a.t.732 Anderson used them because bar chords flusterd him while singing along..Neil Young..many more had crutch to play and sing ..no biggy

Zappa got rid of Lowell George cause Lowell liked to get high. That and he also thought Lowell needed to form his own band. Which of course he did.
....obviously Danny's a big fan but I wish he would contain his enthusiasm and let Ian finish answering the question..
