I never normally leave a comment on anything but what the hell man how could they cut out those last 2 minutes it’s literally gold. That ending speaks to my soul man. Led Zeppelin best band ever til the grave!
I've always turned up the last 30 seconds of the song as it faded out because I loved it so much. Didn't want it to fade out/ go quieter. I always thought- "the ending with 'Some-tiiimes, some-tiii..iiiimes...oh oh....ohh...' and then finally ' I get a little bit lone-lyyy....just a little, just a little, just a little bit a lonely...hey, hey" was as you said "gold". And I always wished I could hear it go on another 30 seconds, and now.... my wish has come true!
I really feel Robert's emotions in this version, damn it's sad he lost his son at a very young age, it's the saddest thing a man could face... love this version!
@@Nightmareman3 it's not very different but there are difference like for instance, there's no keyboard solo in here and the ending is also a little different. And for me personally this is the definitive version.
@@toikutoassumi8381 What we are hearing is here is what was played at the studio before the "editing" or more accurately "producing" was done. Some instruments are turned up or turned down , added or taken away (tweaked) during this process. However the sound of Robert's voice is untouched or affected by this process. And yes for instance , Jones' keyboard solo was added in during producing.
@@toikutoassumi8381 That's why it's very important for artists and bands to hook up with good producers as they can make a "raw" average studio version sound great , or a great song pop even more. Jimmy Page took over the producing after Led Zeppelin's first or second album creating the producing company "Swan Song". Jimmy was an awesome producer. He produced some or all of Bad Company's earlier work as well.
The definition of a 'Rock & Roll' record. To be played and consumed at unapologetically insane highest volume possible. Failure to do so may cause others to question your mental being. 🎼

Understandably it sounds like ZePPeLiN just didn't want this moment in time to end. Absolutely heart wrenching. And those fills from Bonham. ZePPeLiN the only band that could turn a tragedy into a masterpiece.
Absolutely inexplicable that this wasn't the album version. Pages pleading notes to match Plants soulful singing, Jonsey's bullet proof tones and rhythm with Bonhams perfect beats and energy this recording epitomises their musical bond

I listened to this almost 50 times on loop at the office while working (with headphones). Then I got home and listened 50 times more, no headphones so my neighbours also heard 50 times or so. At the office, my colleagues and I were arguing about LZ and the best songs and best drums, best versions, etc. Amazing that across age groups in 2020, people still talk about their work, and gain new admirers is beyond me. They have something magical and enchanted about them. I'd marry Robert Plant even if he is 100 years old :)

Very hard to believe that Bonzo and Jimmy hated this song. Can't help but wonder what they were giggling about at the beginning of this track. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall...
@@Braglemaster123 They didn't hate it so to speak, Jimmy considered it to be "Not Led Zeppelin", to poppy, etc. Apparently Jimmy wasn't allowed to criticize it because it was about Plants Son. This should have been on the ITTOD companion disc. When the new editions were released I decided that my cd collection of zeppelin could do with a freshen up so I bought them all and took the companion audio for what it was. There were no real revelations just the odd highlight here and there but they were worth the money for what you got. With ITTOD I kept up the trend and got the deluxe edition and was aware the second disc was probably the weakest of them all. This version would have improved it greatly. But hey, we have it on here TH-cam at least :)

Jimmy Page should have used this version after he cleaned it up a bit and put it on the ITTOD deluxe version. The one he did use (The Hook) was nothing compared to this.
What makes Zeppelin stand out is each version is amazing. Just like their live performances different yet awesome. They enjoyed playing and challenging each other musically. Look at the Whole Lotta Love from the Knebworth Jimmy just started freestyling and Jonesy got a kick out of it. Cut Hot Dog or I'm Gonna Crawl. ? Seriously. I don't think so
When you consider THIS extended gem was cut, AND, they inexplicably left the BLASTING Wearing & Tearing (along with rockers Ozone Baby & Darlene) ALSO off the record - it has to be an indicator of how Page wasn't his typical "in charge" self when it came to these Polar Studios sessions... If it was my call, l'd say make it double album (perhaps including "Swan Song") or, leave off the God awful Hot Dog, trim back Carouselambra by a couple minutes and INCLUDE the up tempo Wearing & Tearing, and Ozone Baby.
