    Good thing you have this content. I was planning to take a video of the bus halting in the middle of nowhere, then I saw people sitting on the side island. This happened infront of the area in between Megamall and Shangrila. I am riding my electric kick scooter and if u dont have a good bright light u will be surprised too many people standing on the bike path. There are lots of people that u cannot see. They r not wearing bright color or maybe try bringing a reflector. Its a pitty that govt needs to invest on putting high fences just for these idiots to follow.

    I’ve heard from many drivers that if you hit someone, it’s better to just keep going. The laws should be changed so that drivers are only liable if they hit someone in the crosswalk. I’m pretty sure many jaywalkers would become disciplined if they knew it was open season on them outside of pedestrian areas (crosswalks and sidewalks).

      I remember when the MMDA installed new tall fences along the sidewalks of EDSA, maybe 3 or 4 years ago.
      The idea was to deter jaywalkers.
      It worked to some degree, but the problem is that people were just walking AROUND the fences 🤦‍♂️
      The difficulty is that they had to allow access to properties along EDSA, so there's many openings.
      So yeah, like you say, some self-discipline is really needed.

    There's a really easy fix to the jaywalking problem, and people have been saying it over and over and over again. DO NOT PENALIZE drivers who hit individuals walking outside of designated pedestrian walkways. Of course, the other side to this is that LGUs also need to ensure that there are enough walkways and sidewalk space for people to walk through.

    funny to see men able to run but risking their lives instead of using the overpasses. especially the one in sando who seems to be a body builder. maybe he just did leg day and can't bear taking the stairs lol. but to be fair, it is a chore to walk 100 meters, climb up and down 100 steps then walk back 100 meters to the stop. and we don't know how far they've walked already just to get to edsa. there should be better pedestrian/commuter infrastructure especially in free-flowing roads that don't have intersections where pedestrians can cross at ground level. it's very difficult if you're between 2 overpasses that are 1 km apart.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Although the busway has solved a lot of problems, that is one of the problems that continues, until today.
      Those buses that don't want to leave until they have enough passengers.
      The whole idea of DOTr requiring for a consortium to operate the EDSA busway is that the profits would be shared - meaning that even if you don't earn as much during off-peak hours, it will get balanced out during peak hours.
      And likewise one bus operator wouldn't have to worry about racing another operator to get passengers, since it all balances out in the end anyway.
      But in reality, they still operate more like independent operators, and each driver still has the mentality or even the requirement of having to pickup as many passengers as possible.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Some lawmakers have spoken publicly about their intention or wish to adjust and modernize the law - in regards to reckless imprudence.
      But until this point, I'm not aware of any changes.
      MMDA do have an anti-jaywalking unit, although it's had some challenges over the years. I'm not sure whether they're still active.
      When you consider the number of roads that need attention, vs. the number of people available to apprehend - you can see the unbalance.
      Although for sure EDSA should be near the top of the priority list, since it's at the heart of Metro Manila, with a daily volume of over 400,000 vehicles

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Another great example of the problem of having buses on the outside lanes is Commonwealth.
      Aside from all of the problems listed above, there's another problem... commuters standing in the road, blocking two lanes of traffic.
      (This same problem was also observed on EDSA, when the buses were on the outer lanes. Although not to the same extreme as Commonwealth)

    If a jaywalker gets hit after ignoring signage then frankly that should be automatically their fault - not the drivers! That rule really needs to change. That law is just another example of not teaching Filipinos to be accountable for their actions and flagrant stupidity. Unless people start to take ownership and realise that reckless decisions have consequences then nothing will change. Deploying personnel to enforce jay walking rules without any powers to detain and apprehend is just another example of the stupid uncoordinated illogical thinking we see so often throughout government departments- it’s more about image than actual results. It’s akin to needing a lifeguard that cannot swim! It’s a waste of resources if they cannot actually affect change

    Huge fan of your videos, but I understand the people who choose to risk their lives by crossing especially there at Ortigas station. SM Megamall bus stop was one of the most organized bus stops before pandemic. Should've kept it instead of forcing the ortigas station. If you can do it on Northbound ayala, I don't get why it can't be done on SM Megamall too. Not to mention the removed stops at Boni and Shaw. If you're coming from Boni, you'll have to either walk up to Ortigas station or go back to Guadalupe station which tbh is kinda stupid.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I wouldn't argue about the need for more bus stops.
      Although with regards to jaywalking, you can see the same issue even in places like main ave, where the footbridge is pretty low and relatively convenient compared to trudging through an MRT station.
      My hope is that with all the new footbridges and elevators being installed for the bus stops, there will be a big decrease in the number of jaywalkers.
      But I guess there will always be some who simply choose to take the easier, more dangerous, option.

      It happens in places where there's no gaps, with people simply climbing over the barriers, or simply walking around them.
      So it's more than just the gaps.
      But I do agree that the gaps should be closed.
      Usually those gaps are created when there's been an accident and the barriers got damaged or misaligned.
      Someone comes in to realign or replace the barriers, but they don't always think about the consequence of even a small gap - in regards to jaywalkers.

    I know the penalty is absurd but if you dont violate anything you dont have to pay for it, simple rule..

      And I agree with having higher penalties for drivers of public transport.
      Because they're really meant to be professional drivers, and held to the highest of standards.
      In this case, my guess is that the bus driver just felt like he's helping the commuters, by picking them up, even if they're not at a proper bus stop.
      But obviously that's not something that you want commuters to get used to, otherwise the whole system will fall apart and everyone will suffer from the same mayhem that existed on EDSA before.

    Na-alala ko kasama ko na huli ng jaywalking in Saudi Arabia umiyak ng bigyan ng penalty na 2k riyal (20,907 sa pinas).

      I think the penalty here is typically P500.
      I remember during the brief time that Sec. Abalos was the Chairman of MMDA - he was pushing for increased penalties and stricter enforcement.

    Jaywalking should be penalized by doing 1hr community service regardless of their reasons sweeping or picking up garbages or cleaning up drainages

    It’s really hard to penalize jaywalkers when ambulant vendors can freely roam in EDSA selling cigarettes, candies and what have you during heavy traffic.
