But what I Love the most is the show thoroughly tests my level of empathy. The script, every single actress, directors, cinematography, costume design - everything is immensely Talented. Thank you!
Marina I agree in the beginning it is very confrontational and it makes us uncomfortable but by episode 3 or 4 in the first season I was hooked. I have been a Kate fan for a while and that’s why I started watching

What a good question about OINTB playing differently to a non-american audience. I'm Ukrainian and my perception of the main characters - Piper and Alex is different from that of many American viewers. I've never found this couple 'awesome', 'hot', 'vauseman forever', 'best love story', etc. Imho, they are so self-obsessed, traitorous, manipulative, flighty, disorderly. It's not love when you put your 'beloved' one at permanent risk, constantly playing the Russian roulette with him/her. I hoped by the end of the show Piper would become stronger and wiser, more antifragile, speaking in terms of brilliant Nassim Taleb. I'm Touched by the love story of Miss Claudette and her friend (strength and faithfulness of this character are so impressive), Red's principles (no drugs, etc), Poussey's personality (her singing brought me to tears).

She was Captain Janeway on Star Trek Voyager for 7 years, has rarely gone without doing something, but she has never had a Russian accent until OITNB. All you have to do is type her name in the search box here and it will pull up a LOT of videos from over the years where you can hear her speaking in her normal voice. She was a smoker for years, and has the husky voice from it. But otherwise, she just has a regular American English accent like me and everyone else here. She just does a decent Russian accent for her character of Red.

Everything was portrayed so well and realistically. Piper was also played really well. Which is why a lot of people didn't like Piper. But in prison, I wouldn't tend to act super sweet either.
