RIP Larry / We shall not cease from exploration. And the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. / T. S. Elliot

Fantastic talk. This is inspiring to hear how Maria brought Burning Man art to Downtown Reno.

With the idealistic descriptions of Burning Man by management at one end, and the ever-increasing presence of law enforcement "on the playa" at the other, and with the reports from ground level that aren't all inspiring, I have come to see BM as the typical mix you get with an attendance of 65,000, regardless of the overall intended 'culture'.
Deaths and rapes, Burners hurling insults at each other for either "not participating" or being self-appointed "participation cops" bitter that their poor choices for audience participation (such as random spanking) are rebuffed, and of course, Burning Man's unprecedented disclaimer, printed right on every ticket, that you may die there, and if you do, it's not their fault. There are weekenders that drink and ogle ; there are "shirtcocks" that drink and ogle and there are camps that don't practice "free gifting" unless you are on a certain list of names. A God's-eye view would reveal nothing new with all that.
So, as with all Ages Of Aquarius dawning on the horizon, we need to take the bad with the good, and enjoy the art for art's sake - from a distance, if necessary.
