- The Nea Genia group of the Orpheus Hellenic Folklore Society presented songs and dances from the village of Neo Heimonio (Νέο Χειμώνιο) in Thraki at HDF in Orlando, Florida. We would like to acknowledge Dr. Eleni Filippidou, a renowned researcher of folk traditions from Thraki. Dr. Filippidou was gracious to share with us her rich resources and research and we are forever grateful for her valuable assistance.
The Nea Genia group was awarded the Silver Award (third place) at the Advanced Intermediate category.
The group was also awarded the Choral award for their Neo Heimonio suite singing.
We would like to also acknowledge the musicians that accompanied the Neo Heimonio suite: the band “Methorios” from Greece and Sarantos Kaperonis (gaeda)
