the BCCI got put into a huge legal entanglement that put the upcoming ipl at risk
what followed was a lot of legal maneuvering loopholes in laws and finding ways around the public gambling act of 1864

Brother I am a lawyer and your explanation on Game of chance & Game of skill could not have been more wrong. Betting of all kinds is banned in India (except goa & sikkim). The games of chance & skill are just GAMES only in the eyes of law. So when you play games in casino, that is a game of chance and that is illegal. But whn you play games like KBC or Dream11, that is a game of skill because the luck factor is very minimum in such games. That is the supreme court explanation and seems very plausible.

As this practice of making multiple teams is so much prevalent (and is also promoted by Dream11 itself), the general idea behind the app seems out to be in favour of luck. But the game was not designed for this format. It was originally conceptualized as a game of skill only. Therefore, the Supreme Court ruled it as a game of skill.
