I know a few people have struggled to find the Electrotren or Jouef 0-6-0 loco chassis required for my Gladstone body shell and they are getting rarer now.
I'm pleased to confirm the Lima HL2314 uses the identical chassis/motor etc to the ones previously listed, and I picked one up directly from Hornby for £65. The only difference is the wheels are a dark red with white lining which you may wish to paint.
*Yes I'm well aware Gladstone was a 2-4-0, not an 0-6-0 as explained in the video 🙂

you can tell that Harbottle was proud of the fact that they had an old tank engine hidden away on one of their sidings.
I imagine that the new station master was impressed when he saw her?
Got to love "Oh Mr Porter" I'm a southern Railway enthusiast and this film is a treasure trove of early Southern locomotives. Gladstone was a Hawthorn engine borrowed from the Kent and East Sussex railway and modified for the film, Changing to an open cab for filming and her tall funnel. They also had a LSWR T6 4-4-0 (Close cousin of the T3) as the express engine and a LSWR 395 as the stolen excursion train.

This is such a neat model. The detail of the destination boards on the bunker gave me a giggle. A little suggestion about the chassis: have you thought about removing the coupling rods between the front two bogies? I think that would be a simple way to cheat a 2-4-0 look.

There is a way (or two) of making Gladstone a 2-4-0T while still using the Electrotren chassis, and the answer can be found from real life cases. Some companies converted 0-6-0Ts to 2-4-0T with a popular one being to remove the coupling rod between the first and middle driving wheels, which was done some tank engines. Another would need work and that is to replace the forward wheel with a smaller set most likely meant for a tender, pretty much like what the LBSCR did when Boxhill was converted to a 2-4-0T briefly.
Wonderful! makes me feel my age though as I saw the film (as a young child) when it came out!😊

I haven't watched the video but sent it to my Father due to our mutual love of the film. However, he say the chassis is wrong and that it was 2-4-0 and not 0-6-0, whatever that means!! The bodywork is great👍
I explain this in the video, there's no 2-4-0 commercially available so the 0-6-0 is a necessary compromise

Have you considered taking off the front coupling rods to technically make the engine a 2-4-0? I know that the wheels would still all be the same size, but at least the front ones are covered by the cylinders, so it makes it harder to notice.

Wow great , have you tried liquid glass for the glazing of the windows, it’s easy to use would finish the windows a treat even down to creating broken windows. Looking forward to getting started on mine thanks for all your work
Thanks Paul, I thought about using Glue n Glaze, but it looks form the film like the glass was removed, probably due to the reflection when filming. Certainly doesn't look like there's anything there to me anyway

Thanks Mark, I've not done N simply because the minimum order with the factory is 100 units, and I'm rarely asked for N (I offer the buildings in N and have only sold a couple so far) so I don't know if it's viable yet. I've just launched my first O gauge wagon so I'm happy to trial an N if there is enough interest, but it would be a single Buggleskelly design if I do as it's the most popular, and it would be later on in the year. I'll let you know.

about the tank engine. I know Gladstone is not a LNER A4 express engine, but can railway modelers make their own version of a clean
Gladstone.
@@eliotreader8220 they are the crew from the K&ESR who delivered Gladstone for the film. I sell the body shells unpainted so people can paint as they please, thanks
must have been a good steamer to be able to boil water on a chicken's nest and scrap wood and a few lumps of black gold?
