Thanks for this insight, found it really useful and enjoyable to watch. I'm signed up for IM Bolton 2021 if it goes ahead. Looks tough! Just hoping I'll get through the bike part before the cut off :)

Glad to see people are starting to dream big again for 2021:-)
I did this race in 2019, and honestly it’s amazing. Good luck with the training.

Great video. I’m lucky to live in Bolton, I’ve done IM UK 5 times. The latest bike course is spicy fo say the least. Hill training Defo needed. See you in July.

I have two road bikes, which would be the best chain set to use? Both bikes have back cog 11T-32T front are 39T& 52T and 50T& 34T

Hi Paul, it depends on how strong a cyclist you are I suppose. When I did it this year I had a 11-28 cassette and a 52-39 chainring on. There are some tough climbs but they aren’t really steep steep. So probably, with your 32T on your cassette and if you are ok at climbing, I’d say go with the 52-39 chainring. 👍🏻

@@peteandloistri7270 Just registered for next year, I should say I have took part in Bolton 4 times 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015 but only finished in 2013 time of 16 hours. Missed the bike cut off the other 3 times. I need to be faster at the swim as have always done breast stroke.

@@ThePatto56 Yeah, Lois missed the bike cutoff this year too. She would have been well inside the time but I think Ironman just wanted to reopen the roads as quickly as possible. Try and start the swim as soon as you can even if you aren’t in the right time zone. This will give you a bit of extra time. Also just try and get in and out of T1 as soon as you can. I saw lots of people losing SO much time here. Remember, aero is king so get some clipon areobars if you don’t have any and don’t wear baggy or loose fitting clothes. Good luck next year mate. I’m sure you’ll smash it 👍🏻

@@peteandloistri7270 Yes I realised afterwards its no good starting the swim at the back when its a rolling start, end up losing that time on bike cut off even though they tell you your time starts when you enter the water. Anyway all the best.

Thanks for this. I am doing my first ever triathlon (and Ironman) here next year hopefully. Is this standard as an Ironman or is it on the more difficult side. I unfortunately live in the east where it’s pretty flat so hill practice will be limited to Zwift. Just wondering if a year of training even with no hills will be enough for the bike leg

Really great video this ! Am doing Bolton 2021 🙏🏼 it happens! But great insight to the course am fortunate to live close to the Peak District so lots of hills to practice on ! Is the bike course easy to navigate as am not local but want to visit and go from the flash and do a full loop which I think is about 58 miles.

Thank you, yeah fingers crossed it’s on. As for the bike course, I downloaded it into our Garmin and followed directions. There are a few turn you have to make so maybe research the route first. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
